Wealthiest country in the world | 1:53 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
There are lots of things that make me mad. Like waiting in line. It drives me absolutely batty! Doesn't it seem like every time you get in line at the post office, the line you pick winds up moving half as fast as the one next to it? But if you switch to the other line, the one you'd been in suddenly starts moving! At times like that, I just close my eyes and think about our country's 3.9 million miles of paved roads, enough to circle the Earth at the equator 157 times.

Yes, whenever I need a super-duper pick-me-up, I just think about my elite status as an American citizen. That never fails to put the feather back in my cap. Sure, there's a war going on and lots of other problems, but let's keep in mind that over the past 20 years, our economy has grown at a faster rate than at any other time in our history. That means when Friday comes, it's time to celebrate with a happy-hour raspberry margarita at Applebee's! Why not? I'm from America, the wealthiest country in the entire world!
Greed is to Blame | 1:54 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
The real reason for inflated home values in Utah is Greed. It started with people from out side Utah (Californians) coming to Utah. The house they could buy in Utah was a mansion compared to the shack they had in California. They sold out and came to Utah, bidding up the price of houses as they came. This out of state demand for Utah homes pushed up their values. Then come the money lenders who sold Utahns on the idea of taking a little money out of the appreciated house to buy that new SUV, RV, boat, trip, or what ever. All this new found money from the inflated value of the homes cranked up economy. People lived beyond their means, enjoying the American Dream. Young couples just getting started had to tighten up the belt if they wanted a home. Greed and the fact that so many people owe so much on their homes will keep home values high for a while. But as the economy slows, because of the slower demand (not as borrowing against lower valued homes), pressures will cause home values to be reduced. But greed, not the President, is the problem.

To Willbur: What is your point??? Don't ever embarrass your fellow Utahns with your type of logic again...at least in OC SoCal they can still get $400,000 for a house!!!

I always get a kick out of Utahns who like to blame California for their internal problems.

Can you spell J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y ?

Utah can only WISH it could be anything like the Golden State.

Anyone who believes liberals "bail us out" is obviously blind to reality. I love this country of freedom of speeach, but liberals (mostly extreme liberals) cause so much grief in this country. I will not go into details because I get too angry about it.

I see your libral rant on this webpage all the time.

Tell me when was that last time a poor person gave anyone a job?

If you librals tax the rich and tax companies that make profits who is going to give the poor people a job? Karl Marx?

We all know how well that system works.

The Great Depression was lead by Herbert Hoover.
This conservative refused to believe there were people starving in America (like today's neocons).

When the people had enough, liberal FDR came on the scene and as they say ... "happy days are here again."

Sorry poster, the reason you "get too angry" is too much Rush Limbaugh.

Wow!

Really!

the people commenting on this board make me laugh and fill with despair at the same time.

Are we really this ignorant and beligerent and bigoted and dogmatic?

@ So called "Conservatives" and "Liberals"

There is more than enough blame to go around right now so it seems pretty stupid to be blaming someone elses social and polical views when you are as much to blame as anyone else.

"Liberals" think that everyone is entitled to a high standard of living regardless of whether or not they are willing to work for it. They would rather hand a person a loaf of bread and make them fat than teach them how to fish and make them free.

"Conservatives" have let ideology and extremism make them calloused and biggoted. They think that the free market can govern itself and that the rich will take consideration of the poor out of the goodness of their hearts when history has shown repeatedly that that is not the case.

This problem transends politics and social values and until people start making compromises and working for solutions instead of trying to preserve their parties status and power it's only going to get worse.
Liberal's vs. Neacons | 3:20 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Liberal plan- We never know. Bash republications for their plans? Point fingers! Block anything that might show that a republican knew what he was doing!

Neacon plan- Let big business run wild so they can make more money, so that they can in turn get more money. Blame liberals for spending all that money that they want, but in reality they are spending just as fast! Idiots.

We keep voting in both parties. BIGGER IDIOTS!

I am in no way endorsing any third party. Usually even bigger idiots. Third Party Candidates need to step up. This is the opportunity and all we get is Wacko third party candidates.
Other suggestions | 6:14 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
"Recessionary" is an OK word. Some other suggestions: recessional, recessionlike, recessionesque, and recessionish.

Remind me again, who am I supposed to be mad at, liberals or neocons?
MinnesotaUte | 8:55 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
The people to blame are the consumers. People in Utah are very caught up in "keeping up with the Joneses." Young kids buys Cadillac Escalades and $400K homes is ludicrous. Additionally, homes are not being competitively built -- framers paid $12/LF vs $4/LF cannot be supported. Live within your means, and much of this would not be happening.
What Recession? | 8:56 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
The Dow Jones average is just under 12,000 points, unemployment is at very near record low and salaries are at an all time high on average. If there was a Democrat in the White House we would be told this is the best economy in 50 years! Who says the news media isn't liberaly biased? Don't believe ANYTHING you see or read from the media except the Fox news channel. The rest of the news media spins the news, they don't report it. This is just one more example of that fact! If you lost your house, I am sorry, but it is most likely because you trusted a dishonest loan shark for your finacing. Live and learn! By the way, is CNN still reporting we lost the war in Iraq? I haven't watched them since they reported that news.
Ridgerunner | 9:17 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Recession? What recession? The resturants are full, the stores are busy, the gas stations are still going strong! New businesses opening almost everywhere you look.Help wanted adds in the windows of businesses all over town. Interest rates are lower than I remember them being in my life. Recession is a word Democrat politicians use to decribe the economy when they are trying to unseat the incumbent administration! Who will ever forget, "it's the economy stupid" mantra of Bill Clinton! It's always the "economy stupid" from liberals! Who else thinks everyone but themselves is stupid? I guess we should be greatful for their "great wisdom"! The only thing that will put us in a real recession is when Obama gets in office and the government confiscates 15% more of your income as taxes! That ought to do it just fine!
Re: Liberals vs Neocons | 9:24 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
What's the matter buddy, your welfare check late? If you don't like businesses making a profit, never buy anything produced by a corporation again! Teach them a lesson they will never forget! What will you do for food, clothing, shelter or anything else you need?

Open Your Eyes. Restaurants and small businesses going out of business by the thousands. Don't you read or study? I'm too tired at this hour to go on and on. You are out of touch.

I believe it is time we all step up and start being accountable for the situation this nation is in. When we went to war everyone was cheering because we hated what happened to those that were killed on our own soil. Now we are close to success and everyone is whining because it has had an effect on our comforts of life. What the hell? Not all, but many are loosing their homes because they got all caught up in the huge appreciations they were seeing and decided that they would pull out equity and buy a new boat or an SUV, why not!? the good times were going to last forever, right! But they didn't and instead of looking at our own mistakes, taking out loans we knew we couldn't afford or on a chance that our situations (pay) would be better in a year when they adjusted, a lot of people gambled. And now it is Bushes fault. I get sick of hearing that every problem in the world is because of Bush. What about the islamic fanatic terrorists that plot to destroy us. It seems as though some (Obama) want to hop in bed with them.
