The FEDS are busting low level marijuana growers. the DEA isn't stopping loads of cocaine or heroin... they are busting a low level pot grower. What a bunch of pork the DEA eats out of the national budget, and for what? A few pounds of pot? And stick it to the taxpayers to pay for this guy in jail for the next year or more.

Why on earth do these kinds of warrants need to be served "no-knock"? It's not like the guy is going to flush a bunch of plants down the toilet. Leave the paramilitary crap at home unless its actually needed!

Yet again, another absolute waste of taxpayer money. Pot? Please. Go after the real problems in Utah: Cocaine and Meth.

Not just a waste of taxpayer money... Someone just lost his freedom at the hands of an intrusive government.

Your Warning | 12:16 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
To all you pot heads in here claiming the police are some how abusing your right to sell this stuff to my kids. GET LOST, you have a problem deal with it don't spread it around. Just hope that if I see you trying to get my kids hooked on this garbage that the police find you before I do.

RE: Your Warning
You have a good point... but the real point is meth, cocaine and heroin are much bigger problems. And to waste limited resources by the DEA to bust a guy with a few plants is beyond stupid.
And do you homework... people really don't' get hooked on weed like they get hooked on heroin. They aren't even in the same ball park.

By small and simple things are great things brought to pass. Perhaps by catching these small growers they'll be led to the big growers. I think any time people are breaking the law, tax payer money is worth it to stop it.

Pot is where most kids start. It escalates from there, so it is still important to get rid of this stuff. I have two family members who are impossible to deal with unless they are high. I hate it! Maybe this WVC bust will make it harder for them to get ahold of it.

My brother started with pot, years ago. Years later, dead after meth addiction.
And? | 5:55 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
From the picture, those plants aren't impressive. The guy isn't a real grower. After, those plants are dried and processed the grower might get slightly over a pound. It might get $200 an oz. This is a 4k bust at best.

You taxpayers get to warehouse this guy for a few years at 26,000 a year. Factor in loss income from taxing this guy and add in police costs, court costs and other costs and what's your benefit?

With a record, changes are he won't get a recent job. He may return to a life of crime after attending all those crime seminars at Point of the Mountain. I'm sure he will get pointers on the right way to grow pot.

I was bused to a intercity high school. Not one bust ever cut supplies or stopped any user I've known. It was my love of art and nature that gave me other options than to get hung up on a life of drug use.

I'm known successful businessman, doctors and others who smoked a little pot.

people dont' "start" on pot. People start by not getting proper parenting and/or misinformation from adults.
When your drug class in school tells you how evil Marijuana is and you can see first hand your friends aren't turning evil, who are you going to trust? Your friends or the adults. Lets get rid of this "war" on drugs and start parenting our kids and telling the truth about drugs. They aren't going away anytime soon.
weed :) | 9:22 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Legalize it already i know plenty of successful people who smoke weed on the occasion and still live wondeful lives. Of course if you have a addictive personality yoiu will escalate to higher drugs and no one can stop that. I do not understand how cigarettes which are nasty and cause lung cancer is legal and marijuana is not legal when it has healthier affects to your body it is just a plant.
And? LOL | 11:50 a.m. Aug. 22, 2008
A pound total from nearly 80 plants??? LOL!!! You know absolutely nothing about growing marijuana. A mature marijuana plants can yield a pound per harvest...you can get 2-3 harvests a year (4 month grow cycle). That means 80 plants x 1 pound x 1-3 grows a year is anywhere from 80-240 pounds. Even at your calculations of 200 and ounce thats $1600.00 a pound. That means this operation had the potential of being worth anywhere from $128,000-$384,000 a year.

Problems!! | 7:33 p.m. Feb. 13, 2009
Fact of the matter is that pot causes alot of problems even for people that dont smoke it,sell it,ect. How? Paranoid pot growers/users live a certain life style, they must lie and decieve there friends and family to protect there drug/alcohol habits!! Its sickening to be around!! Why dont you growers build a real buisiness an create jobs for your fellow man and live in harmony?? Oh' I know why!!! The government is your enemy!! (Big brother is watching you through your T.V.) Sickening!!
