The US will win Gold easily IF they continue with their suffocating defense and continue with their high flying transition early offense. The defense will set up the fast breaks the other way and once the US gets into a fast break no body in the world can defend them. The only way to defeat the US is to slow the game down and force them to play half court basketball. The US MUST continue the pressure D and possibly even full court pressure and play to their strength - ATHLETISIM!!!
God bless America. The only way to beat us now is to deliver actual, physical knock-out punches to pretty much our entire team.
ATHLETICISM
I am surprised that people are not complaining that we are winning by to much and being bad sports in doing so. We also should not make fun of Sports that are huge in other Nations that we are not so good at. Like Badminton. I think Team Hand Ball if Promoted right would do well here. I have enjoyed those games. Lets remember the Female Basketball Team is doing well also. It has been a good games so far.
The olympics should be for amateur sports, not professional ones. I think it was a major mistake when the IOC allowed professional athletes to compete. If we want to show how great we are against the teams of other countries, the NBA should allow teams like Spain, Germany, Russia, Australia, etc. to join the league. That way the countries could keep their athletes home and we could watch more American born kids play on the U.S. teams. If we keep going the way we are, it won't be long and the U.S. will have pro badminton and ping-pong leagues.
That was an excellent comment by coach Goorjian, "I don't know what to expect but I'm confident we're going to go out there and play ball." That's deep. I don't blame him for his pointless comment, because what could you say when you're about to face Lebron, Wade, Kobe & company. It's not like you're going to talk smack saying you'll beat them, but you can't say that your team is going to get whipped either.
Hey, Chuckles55, if someone wants to pay to watch badmitton or ping pong it's their money. Also, the competition from non-American born players has improved the game and our players.
Protectionism and a lack of competition will always create a weaker product. Just look at our public skools.
