Layton isn't on this year cause they know they aren't good. They trash talked last year cause they could back it up. but not this year..
Anonymous | 10:33 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Springville will win state.
Re: TImpanogas | 11:02 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Your funny. Yeah and my hillcrest huskies should be #1 becuase I like them they had 40 guys run a 4.3 40. Oh... and Taylorsville should be #2
Cats Football | 11:02 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
To: South end cats,

Think what you want but speed without some power is not going to cut it. We have a ton of speed with Brandt,Compton,J.D., Crockett and a few others but MC has enough power to push it down the field ALL GAME! Who is going to stop them? Take the blinders off.
Salem hills? | 11:47 p.m. Aug. 19, 2008
Are you kidding me? Where is Salem hills.. I guarantee they would kill Bingham, alta and timpview!!!
Jagwire | 12:46 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
I liek wes jordan to win it. Theye our so good team in the state. My schul.
to: cats football (MC fan) | 1:47 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Power? spackman? bernston? just to name a couple. and who told you brandt and crocket were fast? you obviously dont know what you're talking about. there is much more speed than that. mc WILL NOT compete with sky view. that is the bottom line. sky views speedy offense will not be stopped by mc. maybe next year.
TV fan here.. | 6:16 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
And they are dodging the big boys.

I know for a fact that Wong wants the continuous record streak that they have a chance of getting this year.

They have a BYE week, so they could still play the regular Utah Valley teams and still play Alta/Bingham or someone out of state.
Cats Football | 8:26 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
To:cats football (mc fan),

Just the fact that you say Crockett isn't fast and that Bernston has power (and you only named a couple because there is nobody else) tells me you don't have a clue about football or sports. You just keep dreaming about beating MC and I will be on here the day after the last regular season game wondering where you are? I REALLY want you to beat them and every game this year but the fact is you will lose to them and Bountiful and maybe Bonneville.
Mike M. | 9:32 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
I think that it is funny, and kind of sad that Sky View is finally good after 20 years of trying and all of a sudden they think they are the best! HAHAHA! Your record against Mtn. Crest since the school opened in 1983 is like 6-20! Get over it. MC will play MC football, they same football that won them state two times this decade! What do you have to show SV? Nothing! You haven't even made it to the state championship since 1987, and who beat you there? That's right, the Mustangs! So go and trash talk all you want, but MC will do the talking on the field, and put Sky View back where they belong. Below the Stangs!
Davis County | 9:58 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Must be nice to have 22 starters on all these stacked schools like Bingham Y U, Alta, and Timp U. In Davis county we play Ironman football. We still have 4 of the last 8 5A titles. All you teams down south should be winning it every year with all that team stacking-recruiting-cheating.
Davis County | 10:49 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Don't hate. Ironman football? Live in the now. How many have you won in the last 5?
Rankings meaningless | 11:50 a.m. Aug. 20, 2008
It dosen't matter that Alta is ranked #1 because in a couple of weeks they will get smashed by Bingham which will change the whole rankings. I don't know how Timpview is even considered one of the elite teams in the state when they play teams that pee wee football teams could compete against. They can talk when they beat Bingham at there new stadium against the best team in the state.
Re: re: high school fan | 12:51 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
The 30-28 game was against Spanish Fork not PG...I think the Timpview PG game was 14-7 or 21-7 TV, pretty competitive until the very end...
RE Re HS Football fan | 1:15 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
"That game was 30 - 0 for Timpview in the 4th quarter before PG scored 28 pts to make it appear close."

what are you talking about. PG lost to Timpview by a final score of 14-0. Myabe your thinking of the TV- SF game??
Re: to Davis county | 2:22 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Alta and Bingham have huge little league feeder programs. No need to recruit or stack. My kid played for Alta last year and all those young men played together since they were 8 yrs old. Maybe it's familiarity and comraderie that puts them over the top. You play good football up North, don't cheapen it with lame excuses.
Weaver | 2:48 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Last years Alta team would have beat Timp. This year, maybe not.
Compton California | 3:11 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
The Pine View vs. Dominguez will be a great game although Domingues has lost a lot of players
5A vs 4A all star game | 3:13 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Did anyone see the game? They ended it in the 3rd quarter. It was 35-0 at the time. I believe it was 2 Timpview kids that started the fight and were ejected. 5A v 4A is like comparing the MWC to the SEC.
Mountain View | 3:14 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Thats wassup
Timpview right class | 3:46 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Everyone guessing how Timpview would fair in 5A. Take a look at the all star game. Most Timpview players. They couldn't even get over a total of 75 yards or even score one point. Nuf Said.
All Star Games | 4:59 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
All Star games have no bearing whatsoever on whether 5A could compete with 4A!
Many of the top athletes don't even play in All Star Games, choosing rather to go on vacation, or move on, doing other things.
One need look no further than professional All Star Games, for confirmation. They do not serve a purpose, other than to, provide a couple more clips for the highlight reel.
So, to base your assumptions, that 5A is better than 4A, on the outcome of All Star Games, is simply unjustified, and foolish.
In states like Texas or California, the talent level is noticeably different, from one classification, to the next. But, in tiny Utah, there is not enough parity, from 5A to 4A, to justify your claims that 5A is better.
Jas | 5:47 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
I think that the all-star games do (at least to a certain point) corrilate to the ability of the 5A/4A talents. I mean come on 4A doesnt have THAT many kids going on vacation in the off-season right? I rather like the analogy comparing MWC to SEC... good thinkin!
To Jas | 7:22 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
OK, why don't we just compare the # of D-1 offers, between some 5A vs. 4A programs?

Shall we say Timpview vs. Alta?

If All Star Games, are a determining factor, as to the talent level, aren't the # of D-1 offers, a better gauge, of talent level?

According to some people, D-1 offers, are only given to prime time talent.

Why are most of the top recruited football players in Utah, found in the 4A classification? According to ESPN top 150:

#31 - Martinez - Cottonwood
#52 - Xavier Su'a Filo - Timpview

Or Rivals top 15 Utah prospects:

1. John Martinez, OL, Cottonwood
2. Xavier Su'a-Filo, OL, Timpview
3. Craig Bills, DB, Timpview
4. Latu Heimuli, DT, Highland
5. Richard Wilson, TE, Spanish Fork
6. LT Filiaga, LB, Bingham
7. Chris Washington, DB, Northridge
8. Tui Crichton, OL, Timpview
9. Isi Sofele, RB, Cottonwood
10. Vyncent Jones, OL, Jordan
11. Adam Timo, RB, Snow Canyon
12. Remington Peck, TE, Bingham
13. Keenyn Walker, DB, Judge
14. Peni Maka'afi, RB, Northridge
15. Anthony Heimuli, RB, Mountain View

Both are owned by 4A.
Does 4A = better talent?
To All Star Games | 7:26 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Your comments don't say much for Timpview since most of the players on the 4A All Star Team were from Timpview. They got beat so bad then had to revert to cheap shots and fighting. Chumps with no class.
wow! | 9:46 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
everybody needs to calm down. These are preseason rankings, they don't mean a thing. Lets at least play one game before we talk smack please.
Anonymous | 10:08 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
Re: You must be kidding
Dominguez is in Compton, I guess if it makes you feel better to think your from Los Angeles and not the armpit of Compton, suit yourself. They'll probably play like the Vegas teams PV beats up every year, all individuals, not team players.
cache valley | 10:47 p.m. Aug. 20, 2008
sky view, mountain crest, and logan are all gonna be great teams this year. logan dreds being a 3A school this year seeing that they have the most talented team since '05, and they can't show the state how good they really are competing against 3A, but the logan vs sky game should prove that logan is a great team once they win and watch sky view potentially upseting Timpview in november and obviously man handling the mustangs. mustangs are good but not great like sky view and logan.
PG | 12:20 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
WOW...you guys are all going to eat crow when the real #1...PG beats Timpview. Timpview is awesome-the Defense will be very tough. You think it will be a shock, but the Seniors and Juniors at PG havent lost but 2 games since the first grade; and both ages are undefeated all through High School, every year. There are lots of talented teams in Utah; lets wait until we are three weeks in to re-analyze.
Watch out Timpview! And Alta fans quit bringing up 7 on 7 summer games as facts behind your arguments...they dont mean much. Or we will say PG is better than Alta because we smoked them at BYU!
Jas | 3:55 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
alright good search.. props if you will. If there are so many great players in 4A (that are obviously just as good as 5A players according to you) than what is for the constant losing/losing badly of 4A teams to 5A teams? I'm not saying there aren't good 4A teams. It just seems to me that 5A has stronger teams for the most part
5A is over-rated | 8:41 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
If this 5A teams are so tough lets have them line up with Timpview and Cottonwood. I was at the State Finals last year and the best team was Timpview hands down. This season I think either Timpview or Cottonwood would beat Bingham or Alta, Pineview might also. I hear Alta fans talking big then why not go schedule Mater Dei out of California and then come talk about how great you are.
was also | 9:36 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
I was at state last year as well Timpview was by far the best team there much better then bingham or alta and im not a fan of any of these teams
4A Losing To 5A | 9:50 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Some 2007 5A vs. 4A game results:

East 24 Am. Fork 13
Cottonwood 14 Brighton 3
Sky View 28 Clearfield 0
Box Elder 22 Copper Hills 20
Cyprus 21 Kearns 20
Provo 26 Lehi 19
Bountiful 20 Lone Peak 0
Timpview 14 PG 0
Highland 28 Skyline 21
Murray 21 Taylorsville 14
Bountiful 19 Viewmont 17
Roy 42 Weber 7
Mountain View 17 West Jordan 14

And the list gos on and on.

5A always assumes that they are better than 4A, solely on the basis that they have more students enrolled. Clearly, that line of reasoning has no play, as illustrated by the game results above.
Anonymous | 10:12 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
5A is better. Do you want to go look at every year the past 15 and do a tally? Its like 80% for 5A. Sorry 4A you will ALWAYS be inferior and second class. oopsy.
Hey 5a is over-rated | 10:13 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
I know that Bingham would thump Cottonwood and they already put wood to Timpview at camp in Price. Both of these teams just can't hang in 5A. Cottonwood is going to find out next year. There are sooo many programs just licking their lips on the fact that Cottonwood will have to earn their recruiting when the teams from Bingham, Alta, Skyline and Brighton can show the players on Cottonwood that they should have stayed and played in the school boundaries where they live. It will be the end of stealing of players from those schools when they get worked. Timpview is good but as they are finding this year - they just don't have the depth like Bingham and Alta have. Timpview may hang but Cottonwood will not be able to and will find out next year.
To Anonymous @ 10:12 | 10:31 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Once again, no facts to back up your claims.
The lips are moving, but it's just hot air, without facts!
4A is better than 5A, more D-1 offers, more 4A victories over 5A, better athletes, and more press!
Heck, why not, we're even better looking, and more popular than people from 5A!
Attention ALL Utah football players, if you want to get noticed, find the closest 4A school, and enroll!
4A Rules Utah Football!
Actually | 11:04 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
If you consider population. 2A has more D1 athletes then all classes. In addition, 2A had the fastest kid in the entire State 1A through 5A.
Camp at Price | 11:21 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
I was a simple observer down at the price camp. I have no ties to Bingham or Timpview. It was very clear that Bingham was by far the superior team. They were quicker off the ball, Timpview lineman were catching their blocks only to find themselves on their backs more often than not, and by the level of frustration that Timpview showed, they knew full well that Bingham was on a higher level.
Anonymous | 11:57 a.m. Aug. 21, 2008
the scrimmage in price was not that lopsided at all..

also, last year timpview completely thumped bingham..

I would agree bingham is better this year, but I would also state that imo timpview was better last year..

they are equivalent in terms of programs, 4A or 5A...
Re:Camp at Price | 12:21 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Did Bingham score on the Timpview defense? No
Did Timpview score on the Bingham defense? Yes
Enough said about that!
Look at it this way | 12:46 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
If Bingham went head-to-head with Timpview, in an actual game, and you had to put your yearly salary on the line...would it be for Bingham or for Timpview? Honestly, think about it. It is a no-brainer. Bingham is a better team.
The Wolf | 1:02 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Shut up pleasant grove. . you should not be talking about 7 on 7 let alone the coming up football season, cause you did not win the competition at BYU and your not going anywhere special this season. Riverton will kill you. GO WOLVES!!!!
Look At It This Way | 1:43 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Bingham is better this year, last year, I don't think so.
To: 4A Losing To 5A | 9:50 a.m | 4:18 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Nice stats. AF and 7-5 Skyline were the only teams above .500. Lehi won 1 game over a 3A team. Lone Peak and Brighton won 2, so if BYU beats UCLA and Utah beats Oregon St. then the MWC must be better than the Pac-10.

AF 31 Highland 7
Freemont 21 Mt. Crest 3
Northridge 35 Mt. Crest 21
WJ 12 Olympus 0
Freemont 22 East 17
Weber(2 wins)35 Box Elder 29
Viewmont 33 Orem 8
Timpanogos 35 Orem 32
Taylorsville(3 wins)28 Granger 8
Hillcrest (2 wins)17 Murray 7
Copper Hills 21 Payson 19
PG 38 Springville 7
AF 35 Provo 0
Layton 41 Bonneville 6

and on an on

5A v 4A 35-0 w/o any of the 5A D1 players.
<100 yrds total offence 4A (ended with the cheap shots from 4A)ask Les Hamilton who had more class

When Jordan, Alta, Bingham, Freemont, Layton or Northridge loose to a 4A team let me know.
Hawaii= Timpview | 4:39 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Weak competition so they go unbeaten. Go against a great team in a great conference and you see what Georgia did. OK maybe comparing Timpview to Hawaii is not fair. Maybe they are more like BYU or the 04 Utes or Boise St. BYU could beat LSU, Florida, Auburn, Georgia or Tennessee on any given day, but could they run the table in the SEC. No way. If TCU upsets Arkansas and New Mexico beats Vandy, I am not going to say....the Mountain west is better than the SEC.
Re: The Wolf | 6:53 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
Shut up Pleasant grove? Hmmm it seems to me that PG has shut up riverton pretty nicely the last two years. They have bragging rights till you beat them. Besides... where do you honestly think Riverton will be at the end of the year?
Pleasant Grove | 7:49 p.m. Aug. 21, 2008
are a bunch of pansies who talk way too much. They were ridiculously hyped up in football before the playoffs. Next thing you know they lose to Davis by around 30+ points. Basketball season; first round exit against CLEARFIELD. Davis and region one owns region four.(omit LP)
