I for one am very proud of Michael Phelps, and especially the way he conducted himself. He was gracious, a gentleman, courteous and humble. And yet he has the self-assurance to accomplish the task he set for himself. It's a tribute to his mother, his sisters, who have supported him wholeheartedly, and especially to Michael, that he has been able to have the self-discipline to keep working even when he didn't want to, to sacrifice family and social time to pursue his goal. I wish him much success in his future. And his mother is adorable. I loved to see her facial expressions. She deserves some time with her son, at least for a while. Best wishes to them all.

I am glad he met the Great Expections that everyone (to include a lot of people who cannot Swim) had for him.

In my book Michael Phelps is the top athlete in these Summer Olympics! And it may take another 3 decades to break his record.

The last comment about putting money in the bank is the whole idea by which anyone ever succeeds. Plan now for future good dividends. Sacrifice the comfortable now for the happy future. I hope all kids see and read that last statement. Of course it may or may not have an impact on them. It is true, youth is wasted on the young. But I would have it no other way. You need the almost ignorance of youth to dream the biggest dreams.

It is great that Mark Phelps was able to "hang with the guys" and be just another dude. That makes a Super Human -- human. I'm glad that he had dreams and I hope that he has instilled dreams in other youngsters. He deserves the cash--he worked hard for it. That is the key--work first then cash. Oh that all of society would realize that.

I really enjoyed watching Phelps swim during the Olympics, he was great to watch. My only concern is the pools will now be clogged with slow swimmers trying to live out their Olympic dream in my lane.

Michael Phelps may be the greatest athlete of this century. He certainly deserves consideration for this. He is the epitomy of what these games are all about. I wish him well in the future. He certainly deserves that as well.

I guess I'm the only one here who tired of the Superlative Olympics going on between commentators trying to see who could (possibly) heap more adoration on Michael Phelps than the rest.

Don't get me wrong, 8 golds IS an amazing feat, and it was fun to watch, but the non-stop gushing over Phelps from NBC & Co. just was waaaaay over the top. I mean, isn't even HE tired of having to answer reporters breathlessly asking him, "How...does....it....feel...being...God's......Greatest...Gift....To....MANKIND????"

I think Michael Phelps swims faster than I run!

Yes, he is up there with Jim Thorpe and Jesse Owens. But he plays in a big warm water bathtub. His fame will be resurrected every four years during Olympic games and pretty much forgotten the rest of the year. Swimming is a secondary sport(if rated that high) and no matter what he does he won't be remembered so much as 'resurrected' each olympic cycle.

Question? Is Michael Phelps a Mormon...?

I finally will allow my son to put four more holes in his wall to hang a new poster of an athlete worthy of being a role model. Sorry Allen Iverson, Carmelo, Manny Ramirez, Roger Clemens the poster is not of you guys. Joining Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow will now be Michael Phelps. Is it hypocritical of me to still have a Heather Locklear poster hung on the backside of my door? Oh well!

The headline is right. Phelps legacy will not soon be forgotten because the media is cramming it down our throats EVERY STINKIN' MOMENT OF OUR LIVES!

Would you rather have the offseason Utah Jazz boring news or maybe Real Salt Lake on the front page. There is no bigger story in sports than the Olympics right now and Phelps is the biggest story of the Olympics. Any real sports fan would realize this. What exactly do you want to remember from these games if not a man winning 8 gold medals? WOW, you are a hard one to please!
