It's refreshing to see a Utah politician consistently working on issues that are best for his constituents and the state. What a delight it would be should the day come when any part of Utah's national congressional delegation did the same.

McCoy says he's a fiscal conservative. Where's the evidence? What tax cuts has he sponsored? What government programs has he voted to reduce?

Is it possible to say something bad about this senator without being labeled a homophobe? There is never a mention of his agenda and back-room deals. If a Republican makes a deal, Bernick figures there is corruption. If Democrats make a deal, Bernick figures it is a principled compromise. How about some fair treatment?

Interesting - but what has he accomplished in the State Senate? Never seen Bernick do a "feel good" story like this on a Republican.

Are you on social security?
Are you on Medicare?
Is anyone in your family on those programs?

If so, I'm sure you'll be willing to cut out ALL participation and support yourself/themselves?

This story just shows that one's sexual orientation is an in born trait, that can't be changed. On the bright side, there is hope for CONSERVATIVES!

Interesting story. As a life-long Republican I don't begrudge him at all. The title of this article made it sound like he was a spy for the Democratic party. I'm glad its a conversion not a spy situation.

And I repeat the words of the comment from 1:40 AM. Where is the evidence of his conservative views on financial issues? I would suggest the Dnews do a follow-up and climb into the votes and bills sponsored by Sen McCoy. If he has conservative fiscal values it would be a rare thing...for a State Senator that is.

Government debt at all levels is a far more major issue than ones personal views on sexuality right now. I read an article regarding the number of small cities and counties that may default on their bonds due to the number of homes being foreclosed on. Remember, bonds are loans to cities, counties, etc that are repaid by property taxes. If large numbers of homes are foreclosed on, and property taxes are reduced.

We are in for a rough ride and if Sen McCoy wants to talk the line on true fiscal conservatism, he better start walking it. Someone in the Senate had!

Comfortable in the Senate? Time to get his butt out (no pun intended).

Nice article.

"More D-News pro-Demo fluff," fiscal conservatism is not just cutting taxes. It's not running up a huge government credit card bill, like so many so-called conservatives have. It's paying off that credit card. National Republicans have run up such a huge debt, their successors are going to have to raise taxes just to keep US bonds from losing their AAA rating.

Scott tried hard to keep the Utah constitution from being trashed. That's the most conservative thing I've seen of any politician since I moved here. He failed, unfortunately.

I used to be a Republican too, until the Far Right Destroyed it.
Yes and | 9:09 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Hillary Clinton was once a young republican!

I had to smile at the comment that Bob Bernick never writes "feel good" stories about Republicans. Of course he does.

I too have been in both political parties here in Utah. I have met a lot of wonderful admirable people in both parties. We have some great public officials who come from all walks of life. I think its important in a very partisan world to stop and consider the things that bind us together rather than just the things we differ on.

WTF? | 10:35 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
And why exactly did you just do a three page article on Scott McCoy? You gonna do that for his opponent? Or for everyone running?

Boy and I bet dollars to doughnuts that Bob Bernick supports the fairness doctrine for radio. What complete BS!

Why do I care if this guy loves other men. I don't, lets stop making an issue of it. Let the homosexual live as they please and do as they please. Oh right it is them that feel compelled to bring it up to the world. Why is that?
Robert Oh | 12:41 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Thanks Senator. I appreciate all you do and try to do.

What do you mean his opponent? He isn't running for office at the moment. His term isn't up for years. Sen. McCoy is a great politician. I live in his district and I am thrilled with the work he has accomplished.
Gotta know | 1:30 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Did he date Larry Craig while he was a republican?
Jack | 1:54 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
So what was the name of his hometown in Missouri?
To Jack | 3:46 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
The name of his hometown is not important. It's small and it's in the Ozarks. All you need to know is that the other name in the phonebook is Hatfield.

Why is no one saying flip-flop?
Flip-flopper! | 10:33 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
McCoy is fighting for the flip-floppinest opportunist in Presidential candidacy history, Sen. Obama.
Hey Flip-flopper | 1:25 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
Hey Flip-flopper - can you not use the GOP agenda verbage and come up w/ something on your own? People who use "flip-flopper:, "activist judges" and other like terms are nothing but parrots spouting off cause it sounds good but has no rational basis. Grow up and do research on a topic before you comment, and don't allow yourself to be used as a puppet, mimicking the idiots at the top of the party.
Cover it all | 2:45 p.m. Aug. 18, 2008
How about a story on the openly heterosexual members of the legislature or the ones who have relationships outside of marriage or before marriage?

Why do we care what his sexual orientation is? Why does he need to be open about his orientation...for public approbation?

Sen. Scott McCoy will attend the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver as a delegate. In 1996, he attended the Republican Convention as an aide to vice presidential candidate Jack Kemp.
