Diversity is our strength | 1:42 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
People can complain about Hispanics driving down test scores and driving up crime rates, but remember this one thing: diversity is our strength.

The schools can't close the gap between hispanics and whites in education.

They have to want to achieve in school. No one can force them and no one can stop them.

It is a cultural thing for many. It isn't like the education establishment wants them to achieve lower scores.

Funding | 8:02 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Nice job everyone. Results like this with the lowest funding in the nation.

I can only imagine where we would be if we properly funded education in Utah!!

The problems is the legislature sees results like this and they will be fine with the status quo.

Congrats to the kids, parents, and teachers!!!

Huh? | 10:07 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Diversity is our strength? What kind of crap is this? Working thru the differences of diversity to find common ground is out strength. We get no strength in saying that because you are different, therefore you are better than I, or I am better than you. What a liberal failed ideal... "Tis better to think, even though you are different than I, we can get along by finding common goals and ideals then respecting the differences.

Agreed, but we still must acculturate all immigrants into our society. As a patriotic American (and I mean not in the flag waving sense), I do have fears of the loss of the values and benefits of Jeffersonian democracy if we have a major segment of the population that is not familiar with democratic principles and the Constitution.
