Which Harmons?.
Steve | 12:17 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I'll be curious to see how much time this pedophile receives. We all know punishments vary widely (at least in the realm of teacher/student relationships) for men and women that seduce teens. If proven guilty she deserves a lengthy sentence.

Throw the book at this female predator.

I tried to get a job at Harmon's when I was 15 and they told me I had to wait until I was 16. *jerks*

There go those heterosexuals again going after the nations' youth!!!!!
Dot | 2:17 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I was just out at that particular Harmon's yesterday. Could that have been why "Bob Harmon" was there, walking around the store visiting with the customers?
hypocrisy! | 2:18 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
"Let's see what she looks like?"

"Assuming these teen baggers are male, I'm sure they violently resisted her advances and are traumatized by the whole thing"

If comments like these were made in a forum discussing the rape of two teenage girls by a supervisor, they would surely be deemed too offensive, childish, and dangerously naieve to be posted! Yet here they sit, evidence of the continued stupidity of mankind.

If a handsome (or otherwise) male manager/teacher coerces a minor girl into having sex, it is still labeled for what it is. Rape. The act of a predatory, evil deviant not fit to interact with society and he is rightfully removed from it.

Yet change the pronoun descriptions and the fault is suddenly on the victim? Compulsion is still compulsion, and sex with minors is still illegal. Boys will be boys is not a valid excuse for corruption of the young. Even if those boys were entirely compliant and willing, this woman still commited felonies. She is a rapist, and belongs with the rest of the rapists at the point of the mountain.
The Rock | 2:24 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
From the above comments it would appear that few are taking this crime seriously.

Hope none of them make the jury.
Bruce | 2:24 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I think they need to go into the neighborhood where she resides and remove all the children. There is obviously a pervasive belief system here that must be addressed.
Double standards must end | 2:27 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
hypocrisy! | 2:18 p.m. has hit the nail on the head.

If this were about a nearly 40 year old man enticing 14 year old girls nobody would be wondering whether the girls were victims. In fact, consider your own reaction if this were a 40 year old man enticing 14 year old boys? Would anyone wonder if the "boys got exactly what the wanted" or whether "the violently resisted" or were really victims?

Our laws preventing sexual relations between adults and children exist for good reason: to protect children. Adults are presumed able to manipulate children. Children are presumed not to know what might be in their own best interest.

A whole lot of "men" need to grow up, drop their adolescent fantasies of an attractive, older woman "educating" them, and recognize the damage done to developing boys' views of sex, women, and themselves when they are taken advantage of in such ways. Indeed, considering that girls often mature intellectually and emotionally sooner than boys, these incidents may very well be MORE damaging to boys than they they would be to girls, all else being equal.
not 15 | 2:30 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Harmons doesn't hire 15-year-olds. The paper got it wrong. That doesn't excuse her actions, but let's try harder to get the facts straight.

You would be surprised how many female sexual predators there are out there. There are probably more female predators than male predators.

I never saw anything like this when I worked at Harmons.
Billly | 3:02 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I just applied at that Harmon's for an after school shift. I hope I'm not too late.
yes they do | 3:02 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
@not 15. I had a friend that was 15 when he got a job at Harmons. Granted, that was like 11 years ago. Maybe they changed their policy? Maybe he was just super qualified?
to: get control | 3:08 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
You're right. It also holds true for abusive spouses. There are more physically and mentally abusive women then there are men. When a woman hits a man there is little done about it but when a man hits a woman, after she gets out of the hospital, she will sue. Therefore, abusive men make the news a lot more then abusive women.

I guess bagging groceries has its rewards. But just how did the 15 year olds get the job in the first place?

Wrong is wrong and right is right. There is a law to protect minors and this woman violated that law whether these boys were "ok" with it or not. She knew better.
irony | 5:09 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Boys are statistically more often sexually abused than girls (with the predators being both male and female) - but are less likely to be treated humanely in its aftermath (as illustrated by the catty comments here). So much for feminist victim politics. Cut the ideological double standard and take care of the kids - both genders.
too true | 5:41 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I helped raise some of my nieces and nephews. Their mother was violent. I couldn't bring myself to report her for fear the kids would be yanked from the home and end up worse off in the system run by CPS. I put myself between her and the kids on numerous occassions. To this day she blames her lack of relationship with her kids on her ex, me, or them. Of course, it isn't her fault.

More women would be reported if there were a better way to take care of the children left at home in such situations.
Tom | 5:55 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Granted, these young men, 15 or 16 are victims and if the allegations are true the 39 year old woman deserves to spend some time in jail. If I were one of these boys parents, I would want justice. But I would also have a very long talk with my son about having better judgment. If I were a parent of the victims and the victims were girls and the accused was a man, I would have to pray for strength not to do something violent towards the rapist. Legally both situations may be the same, but they feel different.
Not rape charge | 8:25 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
From reading the article, she is not charged wit rape. She is charged with forcable sodimy. Still wrong, but lets at least gripe about her correctly.
Anonymous | 9:20 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
what does this have to do with the store? It is about the fact that two young men were harmed, not what store the female worked at.
Um... | 10:37 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
It has a lot to do with the store, if you live in Draper.

What is forced sodomy ?
Bob | 8:20 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Hypocrisy, (twice) double standard, and other "right" thinking individuals get it. I worry about our civilization when I read comments like: girls got to get it from somewhere, it is what it is when attitudes like that are spoken, written or thought. Thankfully we are a nation of laws not the survival of the strongest, quickest, most cunning, or most wicked.
Linda T. | 10:24 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
These kind of women come a dime a dozen. They are out there and looking for young fresh boys. Just like these old geezer men who go after young girls. They all come in the same perverted package. DISGUSTING!

Ouch!! Where is the brain bleach?? She is a two bagger all the way.

Forcible sodomy? | 11:21 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
How did she force the sodomy? That's what I'm confused about. Is it still called forcible sodomy even if it was complicit because it was with a minor?
Well.. | 11:26 a.m. Aug. 16, 2008
she basically can use anything in a certain place to have a sodomy charge. They do make adult toys, but it can be anything put there to count as sodomy.
Anonymous | 12:02 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
I'm 27 and can't find anyone to have fun with. I'm Jealous of these guys. getting action at 16, good for them!!
2 too true | 2:30 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
You have legal and moral obligations to protect those kids. What about the times you weren't there? The courts may have placed the kids in your care and not necessarily in a bad situation as you feared. I hope others don't follow your example. I wish someone who knew what was happening had the courage to stand up for me and expose my family life for what it really was.
kenny | 4:01 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
RE:Bruce. Yes go into her neighborhood and remove all the children and place them into foster care. Then make sure that the residents just outside of the neighborhood make a distincton between "The Neighborhood" and "Fundemential Neighborhood".How dare they call themselves a "neighborhood".After all wont the media get the "two groups" confused with eachother.
tsk tsk harmons | 10:27 p.m. Aug. 17, 2008
Aside from the conversation going on about the incidents, has anyone noticed the sheer prevalance of comments with regard to the official hiring age at Harmons?

I do think that we have successfully identified that Harmons is actually promoting age discrimination in it's hiring practices (telling a candidate who they do not want to hire something other than the truth), the funny thing...they're using discrimination as a cover instead of acknowledging their unwillingness to hire someone.

Harmons' qualifying age is 15, and this is the same in all grocery stores (except Wal-Mart) because finding anyone over the age of 16 willing to do this work is near impossible.
