I watched the all-around event last night. And both Nastia and Shawn are to be congratulated. They both were awesome and in my book they are both Winners! You made the USA proud girls!!
Just one question | 9:53 a.m. Aug. 15, 2008
How does Liukin's dad get to prowl around the sidelines, I know he was a gymnast but he is not a coach. I felt bad for Johnson while she is trying to do her routines you've got Liukin's dad hovering around obviously hoping she doesnt succeed. The guy should have stayed in the stand like every other parent.

Liukin is her coach.

Liukin's dad is also her coach.
Answer: Just one question | 11:12 a.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Her Dad WAS her coach. That is why he was able to be with her on the sidelines.

I thought the judging for the Vault was absolutely deplorable. Nastia did a wonderful job and got shafted. Her routine was simply beautiful and the landing was nailed, while all other competitors took a step (or fell) and her execution rating was just above a 9. I thought she deserved at least a 9.75 on the execution part of her routine on that.

Shameful judging.

The two US gymnasts truly deserved the medals they won.

Yes, Valeri Liukin is a coach. He's Nastia's coach. And of course he wanted her to succeed. Why wouldn't he?

Go Nastia and Shawn! Best. All Around. Ever.
What a joke | 11:37 a.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Anyone who actually watched last night knows Shawn got screwed by the chinese judges. The Polish girl was screwed the most though. The girl who got the bronze was all over the place on the balance board and Shawn deserved at least the exact same score as her on the uneven bars. Ughh it makes it hard to watch when the judges can screw it up so bad

Actually, Nastia's dad IS a coach! He is not only Nastia's coach, but the US team coach for bars ... I believe they talked about it the night of the team final, or perhaps the night of qualifying.

To: Just one question: Liukin's dad is her coach. I'm watching last nights olympics right now and they say it many times that he is her coach. They use their individual coaches during the individual medals.
Good grief, you sound like Johnson came in last place.
No Way! | 12:20 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
Liukin's dad is not an offical coach on the Olympic team.
RE:LisA | 2:36 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
So that means any parent that claims they are their kids coach get on the floor at the Olympics. Good grief get your facts straight. He is not an official Olympic coach.

RE:LisA: What, did you bet on Johnson in Vegas or something? You are taking this wayyyyy too seriously. Watch and listen closely during the broadcast. He is her coach. Karoli is the TEAM coach. They each had their own individual coaches during the INDIVIDUAL medals. Now, please, quit getting angry at me and projecting your frustration on me....I'm trying to watch volleyball.

Nastia Liukin's dad is her INDIVIDUAL COACH and is ALLOWED to be on the floor with her when she was doing her routines. That is why he can be there. Why are there so many of you who have commented so angry about that?? I guess when you were watching it you didn't pay close attention to the announcers who stated that not only is he her dad BUT her COACH as well. Pay attention next time. Oh and Shawn Johnson did great and didn't seem bothered to have Liukin's dad down there. Know why? Cause her own coach was there too.
