OUCH | 6:12 a.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I feel sorry for the dog... So much in fact, that I would have put the dog down, not wasted an oodle of money on it.

Where will the frivilous spending stop?

I applaud the owners of Piggy for recognizing her worth and giving her the necessary love and treatment that she needed.

It isn't a waste of money to spend on any life. Piggy obviously has people who care about her and they know that she is doing fine even with her physical disabilities.

It's sad that many people in society still can't wrap their little minds around the fact that a life is worth something even if there is a physical disability involved, and yes, even if that life is an animal. I wouldn't put my kid down if its legs wouldn't work. Sure wouldn't put my dog down either. It's all about quality of life, and attentive people know where to draw that line. Each circumstance is different and you can look into an animal's face and know if they are ok or if they are suffering too much. I'm glad Piggy's owners know her well enough to distinguish that her life is still worth living.

Wonderful story!

Frivilous? | 12:06 p.m. Aug. 15, 2008
I'm guessing you meant "frivolous", though I still don't understand your applying it to this situation. The dog's owners are responsible for her life, and they quite correctly did everything they could to save it and make it as good a life as they could. Not everybody can afford to spend lots of money on emergencies like that, but if you can you really should. When you take on a pet, you owe it to the pet to do what's best for it, not what's best for your own bank balance.

Also, if the dog is happy then it's absolutely silly to feel sorry for her. Dogs generally don't suffer the same psychological impact that people do over the loss of a limb or limb function. All she knows is that she has this weird scooter thing on her now, but she still has a family that loves her, plenty to eat and a good, fun life. Her family is to be congratulated on all they have done for her.

It's good that some people are starting to recognize the truth about dog behavior. C.W. Meisterfeld published books 20 years ago to advise dog owners how to psychological train a dog without using force, fear, or physical pain. We still have a long way to go before everyone understands what was accomplished by using proper training techniques

Piggy appears not to be troubled in the least and it would seem that she`s a beloved family pet,NOT employed as a guard dog.
Barking does not mean you have a guard dog.
Those are 2 very different things.
Congrats to Piggy for earning her CGC,that`s quite an accomplishment.
Good to see this positive story.Would love to see a follow up story on Piggy sometime.
