There could be a number of factor, but getting in and out of an air conditioned car on a frequent basis can be stressful to your body.

He is 48 and he has been working for over 20 years would make him 28 when he started not 16.

There are good cops and bad cops. I knew and worked with Scott and he was easily one of the good ones. If you were ever in trouble and found yourself needing to call 911, Scott was the type of officer you would want to show up to help. It only took a few minutes with him before you felt like he had been a lifelong friend. He will be missed!

Incidentaly, becuae UHP pays its officers so poorly, like most Troopers do, Scott was working part time as a Sheriff while he was employed full time with UHP. I hope that explains the earlier issue about the math. It makes you wonder though, if he had not been forced two work two highly stressful jobs at the same time, might he still be with us today?

Dear "How sad... and Math Help"
Read the article. It said he had worked for UHP for twenty years. He also worked for the county part time until he went full-time last year. Obviously he was working part time while working for UHP.
There are two sad points here:
1. Law enforcement officers are so under paid for such a risky job that they have to work two jobs.
2. You two need something to do, if you have to be so nit picky about an article, when a man has died.

May the Lord bless this family. My younger brother died 3 days after his 42nd birthday under similar circumstances, except he was home. Never procrastinate saying "I Love You."

I have always had great respect and love for my uncle Scott. All the comments that people have made about him sum up his personality. I hope we value all of the people in law enforcement who spend so much energy to keep us safe!

My thoughts and prayers go out to this mans family. I didn't know him personally but I have a great respect for law enforcement officers as my dad was an officer when I was little. They put their lives in harms way everyday that we have no clue about. Thanks to his family for letting him do what he loved. We hope that you are comforted in the days and months to come. Keep your faith and know that he will always be with you.

I am Scott's oldest sister. He was such a wonderful brother. We will certainly miss him dearly. Our hearts are broken.

Scott truly is a giant of a man! I grew up in his ward and couldn't believe the news when I heard it. He's what I like to call a "quiet leader," because he made a huge impact in very subtle ways. He will be missed. My prayers are with his tremendous family at this time.

She did not get a ticket. But she said she feels so sad for the officer and his family.

I would never wish something like this upon anyone. Good for her for calling 911 and trying to revive him.

From all that I have heard he is a standup man, officer of the law, and member of the Church. God be with his family.

Yes DR Don. He DID choose that job. That's the whole point now isn't it? Scott was more interested in helping others than seeking personal wealth. Scott was a very intelligent man and could have done well in any profession. My point was simply that it is a shame that good people in law enforcement, like Scott, are forced to seek out second jobs to support their families.

There are many who share your sorrow. Scott's influence was almost as big as his heart. Please leave a post with the time and location of the funeral services when they are finalized.

If there was one word to descride my uncle, it would be integrity. Scott's life was guided by the pricincile of standing up for what he believed in. He had a strong sence of justice and fairness. He was decent and kind. He was a man that you could trust to stand by his word. And he always had a smile on his face or a hug to share with a friend. As I recieve phone call from my utah family telling me about this loss, I began to replay all the wonderful moments I had the is amazing man.

...that there are good law enforcement people, with integrity and compassion and intelligence. I did not know Scott, but I believe it would have been a privilege to have known him. We have had the unfortunate experience of knowing some very self-important, dishonest officers in our area. I have always had great respect for law enforcement personnel, until our experiences the past couple of years. It is very nice to know there are still some decent officers out there. My best wishes to his family. What a comfort it is in times like these to know about eternal families! God bless.

WINWARD WAS RIGHT, WHENEVER SCOTT WAS TEACHING OR JUST TELLING A STORY FOR THAT MATTER HE REALLY DID HAVE YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT. I WAS VERY BLESSED TO KNOW SUCH A GREAT MAN. My husband is a police officer and we lost one of our own last October when he was run over during a traffic stop. My heart goes out to all who knew this officer, all the officers that worked with him and their families. Our prayers are with you!
