A missionary moment ?

Something that a missionary can write home about hey?. So Joyce McKinney, who in 1977 became a British tabloid sensation when she faced charges of unlawful imprisonment in the missionary case. She jumped bail and was never brought to justice, she's the same woman who 31 years earlier was accused of abducting a Mormon missionary in England, handcuffing him to a bed and making him her sex slave. British tabloids first recognized the blond woman's smiling face when she appeared in news photographs this past week with the five pit bull pups she paid South Korean scientists $53,000 to clone. It's final, the true end of "Radical Feminism" at last. The gender roles outlined in the church's "Proclamation to the World on the Family," gives a woman only one role. The single woman exists in the proclamation only as daughter of heavenly parents waiting to fulfill her destiny. LDS leaders, narrow the role of women in the church by minimizing the contribution of those who don't have children, and stay at home to raise them, whether by choice or through circumstances they can't control. A missionary moment ?.

Wow...

She sounds like a real piece of work. I hope they can throw the book at her for SOMETHING!

give me a break

She claims she's a celebrity and it's taken her years of therapy to get over this!!! She's the attacker, not the victim. I also disagree that she was qualified to be a beauty queen. I hope they can prosecute her on some of her more recent crimes. That, or deny her entrance to this country again.

scary

Let's just hope she doesn't try and clone herself.

What is the statute of limitation for a Crime such as this? I'am sure on Rape and kidnapping there's probably time left to try this person for some kind of charges. lets hear from someone that knows.

I knew Joyce when I was in High School she used
to drive around Provo in a Orange corvette. She is
a wacko.

Freaky stuff going on in this article. Ugh...

Con Artist's basic premise...

...is that people are good-hearted. That's how they get away with things. What a loon. She needs someone to finally lock her up!

Apparently DN has learned a little professionalism from other media outlets, choosing not to provide the innocent missionary's name in this latest version of their report. Probably a little too late, but it's something...

Is this woman crazy? Does she have all her marbles?

Slow day?

It sure must have been a slow day on the DesNews room floor for this article to take front page notoriety. I remember the first case with Ms. McKinney. She does not warrant more attention. It sounds more like TABLOID fodder. Who cares what she is doing now anyway? She did a lot of damage to embarrass herself and the poor RM she manipulated. No news here would be good news. AmC

GK from England

I can't believe this story has been raised a second time in as many days. This sort of dross is what I'd expect to read in the Salt Lake Tribune. Joyce McKinney should be consigned to the 'media dustbin' (garbagecan) and forgotten about.

awesomeron

I agree with the Lady, why should we care after all these years. The London Police do not care they most likely did not care even then. The Story and both people where most likely the laughing stock of the Community. This is not the case of a 14 year old boy having Sex with his Teacher and then telling. This is a grown 300 pound man. Bond or not a Women cannot have Sex with a Man who does not want to have Sex at some level. It has to do with how men are wired, and other things, I would not dare to attempt to explain here. If she followed the Man back to America and Stalked him years later then that story also has No Baring on this Story. How she obtained the 53,000 dollars if it was legal is her business. Her crimes are apparently minor. I am not sure Cloning is anything to be scared of because development depends so much on learned behavior. The more complex the Clone the more likely it will not work. You could clone a Mormon and he/she could wind up being a Baptist. The pups are cute.

holy schmoly

WOW!!! Day 3 of this "story" and finally we have confirmation of the woman's identity. I sure hope this is bringing fortune if not fame to the missionary who suffered at her hands. She's a celebrity? Well, apparently since DN has seen fit to make this front page "news" for three days running.

Dr. Clone Jones

I will clone her goldfish for a very cheap price.

Congratulations DN

DN repents and doesn't repeat it's earlier error should be the headline. My non appearing recognition post was not posted but of course it is her. There will be no British action against her ; at the time her mental state did not permit trial in UK. She may now feel she is in better mental shape; some of the rest of us may differ!
Where is the DN apology to the family of her victim?

She's just whacked

The dogs probably won't live long lives, because most mammels cloned have mostly been born with lots of problems so far. No one questioned the use of $53,000 to clone a dog. We don't have enough homeless pit bulls in the world for her to pick from? They are the most unadoptable dogs at the humane societies, there are thousands of them in cages all over the country. She's an embarrassment to everyone who's ever had a connection to her. From NC to Britain.

Good grief. Can we finally get past a titillating 30-year event and concentrate on the war, oil, and the economy that is ruining retirement?

Come on, Deseret News. grow up.

old ed

After you prepare cookie dough and put them in the oven, you check every so often to see how they are doing until they are done.

The facts in this story are slowly coming together. Society, in general, still has an appetite and they are willing to wait until the cookies are done.

One, five, 10 or 20 years from now, the story will likely make headlines in some form or another when JBM again does something sensational or leaves this mortal existence.

If, by chance, she clones herself and the same type of personality is perpetuated in JBM2, JBM3, JBM4, JBM5 and JBM6, well that will be a whole new batch of cookies!

Sensational! Factual. Interesting. Thanks DesNews. Keep up the good work and don't bother about the critics.

now now

We shouldn't judge this poor woman. This could happen to anyone. Many of us have fallen in love with a guy at BYU and know how hard it is to control ourselves every minute of the day. She needs our compassion, not our criticism. (In case you couldn't sense the sarcasm, here it is in black and white. This is the same rhetoric we get on these comment pages when parents do something incredibly stupid and irresponsible and downright wrong.)
