Sounds like Cordoba. At Mantilla's age, he needs to be starting somewhere, otherwise he may never play anywhere. It's bitter sweet because he was a good player, it's just that Olave has become one of the nest center backs in the league. If Matias was in his early 20's, this may be a different story.
It was nice having Mantilla as a back up with all the yellows that Olave receives. Thankfully we know have the "jack of all trades" Russell to step in for those games, though he could be getting a more permanent spot elsewhere soon. Rookie David Horst will need to step up in that case.
JC, are you going for a record of teams played with in MLS? It is too bad he is such a locker-room cancer because there is no doubt that the talent is there.
I do like that FC Dallas is getting desperate...that is great for us.
I really think this is a big loss for RSL, Unless we secure the rights to Olave in the next couple years we may wish we had not given up on Mantilla.
I still think Mantilla would have been a better option in the midfield than Cutler.
Oh Well " Good Luck Matias"
I feel bad for Matias, but honestly he wasn't in the starting line up and droping on the depth charts for RSL. At $150,000 a year, that is too much for a bench player, so while I will miss him, it seems like a no brainer decision on the RSL end.
Mantilla played with little to no heart in the last few games he actually made an appearance. To me, it seemed that he just didn't want to be here - it seems I was right. I had a chance to speak with him right after he lost his starting spot...he seemed rather bitter.
Mantilla has been terrible since he arrived. He is an extreme liability back there. Mantilla never marks his man. He floats around like he has no defensive responsibility. He is also a poor 1 v 1 defender. I can't believe we had him this long. He is a USL caliber player (at best). We are lucky he wants to be released from his 150,000 contract.
