Wegner did not create the Swiss Army Knife. It was created by Victorinox. The Swiss army later split the contract between the two companies, and both companies now market products under the Swiss Army name.
Having spent 2 years in Switzerland, you should know that the Swiss Army originally commissioned 2 companies to manufacture the Swiss Army Knife. WENGER (not spelled Wegner) and VICTORINOX. WENGER and VICTORINOX both started producing knives for the Swiss Army in 1891. The same Swiss family now owns both brands, but allow them to operate as two separate companies. The Swiss gov't recognizes both of them and allows them to promote themselves as the makers of Swiss Army knives. The approved verbiage for WENGER is the "maker of the genuine swiss army knife" and VICTORINOX is known as the "maker of the original swiss army knife". Interesting huh?
