The number 8 is considered the luckiest number in China. I learnt this while living in Melbourne, Australia where there is a huge Chinese community. Interesting that the Olympic opening ceremony has been chosen for today. Perhaps they feel they need all the luck they can get!

"Couple" is a singular collective noun. The corresponding verb is "says," not "say."

And 4 -- a homophone for "death" -- is the unluckiest. Chinese buildings commonly lack a fourth floor, just as Western one commonly lack a 13th.

I find it funny that someone who critiques others' grammar would write "just as Western one lack a 13th." It's easy to make mistakes isn't it?
