.....No Comment......... Is this kind of an "Entrapment", bringing a guy from Sweden to meet a undercover agent? Not to protect him or anything, but I just don't think we should be trying to target foreigners to make trips for abroad to arrest them!

Dooku

I don't think it matters where you are from in the world, as soon as you participated in a sexual conversation online with an underage person, you've crossed that line and then agreed to meet up with him or her no matter whether it's next door at the city park or across the Atlantic ocean in Finland, you are a Predator and deserves to go to jail.

Way to go Law enforcement...

Congrats Layton PD for doing what Law Enforcement does best...keeping us and especially our children safe from the scum of the earth.

ml

The Layton police did the wrong thing. If there had been sexual overtures mad to a minor online, they should have informed the Swedish police. The crime he committed was done in Swedish territory (from where he had the conversation). This is a violation of a foreign country's sovereignty

RE: ml

ml, I couldn't disagree with you more.

A sexual predator gets caught and you're worried about who gets the credit? Does it really matter?

As for the technical issue of sovereignty, the guy's on U.S. soil enticing a minor in the U.S. Sounds like it's squarely in our court to deal with, and we did.

There was nothing in this article to suggest that the PD "targeted" this man. I doubt the PD is trolling the net, sending out suggestive messages, hoping to catch someone. Quite the opposite. They're among the few protecting our kids from this kind of thing.

To: ML - a violation of a foreign country's sovereignty? Your degree in internation law is from where? The man came here. You do the crime here, you are subject to our laws and punishments. Way to go Texas! - not giving into the pressure of foreign governments and executing (pun intended) the laws of the land.

Dooku...The guy was from Sweden so why drag Finland into it? Or do they not teach geography in Utah?

Dooku

Finland was just used as an example. I have been to Sweden and perfectly know where it is. Thank you...

The Viking

Thank you America for taking care of our trash!

ilois

Sorry to say, this is my neighbour!!! Spoke to him just before he went to the US. Been living in the house next to his for three years, and never suspected a thing! I'm very greatful to the police in Layton that stopped him before he actually harmed anyone. Question is: was this the first time, or has he done this before? Anyway, big thanks to Layton PD! But I feel so sorry for his wife and kids...

ss

Stupid stupid man.

Swede

Good work LPD!
Hope he hasn't abused anyone in the past!
Kristinehamn eller Kil?

John the revelator

Thank you all the nice people of Layton for spending your taxes on this man. Now, we the good people of Sweden can spend our money on schools and healthcare. -And Swede: He lives in Kil.

Bill

To bad that we have to pay the bill to dispose of an-other country's trash. See if we can lock him up over there.

knugen af sweden

we got alots of criminals here in sweden and our jails are full, so we thanks u for hunting down swedish criminals,,u can have they all,,usa got big space for them^^

Well

Maybe I'm wrong about Kil since I do not find any information about any wife or children on the same address. Maybe the man was living single? But "ilois" seems to know more...

Wrong

In the comments I see statements that don't make sense.
"sexual conversation online with an underage person", and "sexual overtures mad to a minor online". Where is the minor? There was no minor involved according to what I read in the story. If there was no actual minor there was no crime committed. Who can say how these two men encountered each other on the internet and began exchanging these messages. This is not written to defend predators. But again, this was conversation between two adults and the question needs to be asked how the officer may have led this Swedish man to do something he might not have otherwise.

Yet another Swede.

Keep him there, here in Sweden he may get 6-7 and serve 2-3 years in jail. That's just not gonna cut it for this kind of crime. And he's a father for f*** sake!!!
