Kyle Whittingham is the second best coach ever at Utah - just behind Wayne Howard.

University of Utah football is a great source of pride for the entire state. You represent us well. Doesn't really matter what other teams may do, if they are winners or not, who they play, or what the polls say. You are Number One. Have a great season!

I'm a Ute fan who will be cheering for the Y in all of its non-conference games not only because it makes the conference look better but because it makes it all that sweeter when we blind side them in November and take "their" BCS invite.

"because it makes it all that sweeter when we blind side them in November and take "their" BCS invite."

Dude, that was a secret "blindside". Now they will be looking for it.

OK, secret meeting tomorrow at the secret time (9:00am), at the secret place (the alumni house).

Don't tell anyone!!!

Please! My guess is that you're a closet Y fan that is still anguishing over being turned down by Coach Whit. The Y has just squeeked out two wins in the last two years, and we have had some of the most rotten luck with injuries. Last year, the team was pretty well written off after the first game due to all of the injuries. Yet, we came incredibly close to winning the conference. This year, we will probably win it if we can stay healthy!

Until there is a true play-off, I think all National Champions are suspect. The BYU National Champions are definitely suspect. Yeah, they went undefeated when nobody else did, but they almost lost to a 6/6 Michigan team! Let's look at the undefeated Utah team! That team, killed everybody it played. Not a single close game in the bunch! They didn't play for a national championship because there were other undefeated teams. That year, the two best undefeated teams, didn't play in the championship! Utah killed everybody, and Auburn struggled against Tenn. Compare that to USC who barely beat Oregon and Stanford, and Oklahoma who barely beat Texas A&M and OK State! Yeah, BYU has a National Championship, but it is one that was decided by a bunch of voters who have shown how well they pick champions where playoffs exist.

While you think it is impossible to be passed by not losing, it has happened all the time. If they like somebody better, they are going to vote for the other team. Last year's battle should've been between Ohio State and Georgia, but they moved LSU ahead of Georgia because they wanted LSU to play for the championship. I technically agree with that because I thought LSU was better, but then Georgia should've been behind LSU rather than dropping below LSU in the last week! I also think that Ohio State had no business being in the National Championship. Just as everybody said, who had Hawaii beat, I say who did Ohio State beat. Every team they beat fell out of the rankings, but MI and WI. They played Illinois, and Illinois beat them. Illinois finished in the rankings, but there only credible win was pretty much Ohio State. END RESULT: POLLS ARE MEANINGLESS! GIVE US A PLAYOFF!

For those who just want to write to rip the Utes or any other team not from Provo move on. For those who actually care about the Utes read on.

This must be the year for Kyle. These are, for the most part, his recruits. I like Kyle and I am not advocating he moves anywhere. Barring major injuries again this team has the making of something very special. However, Utah needs to make winning the MWC championship TOP priority. Why? Utah does not want to be the Fresno St. of the MWC. When people think of the WAC they think of Boise St., and deservedly so. Fresno St. is good and has beaten a number of BCS schools, but they are not even considered a power within the WAC without having won a conference championship under Pat Hill. Sounding familiar? It is great to know that with Kyle the Utes will always be comptetitive and win their bowl game each year. Utah needs to play at a championship level before 'respect' can be given. BYU wins respect with conference championships. Boise St. has learned this pattern and all of Utah knows about their program. Don't be the next Fresno.

SHHHHHHHH.....Go to sleep.
re: re: ? | 5:45 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
Why do you yewt fans keep obsessing over BYU's NC in '84? Oh wait it's because u don't have one. Yes you're 2004 team was so great they couldn't even shut out one of the worst BYU teams in decades as we scored 21 pts on you. Your Pitt opponent was such a weak team they only racked up 7 points.

So if BYU was unanimously voted #1 in both major polls in 1984 that doesn't mean anything? You're saying all the people that voted didn't know anything about football or you somehow know a lot more about it than they do? Wow you must be so special.

That Michigan team from 1984 would have steamrolled the 2004 Pitt team.
re: re: re: ? | 7:06 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
You need to go spend some time w/your daddy, Jerry. That Michigan team from '84 was horrible, period. You beat nobody and would've gotten smashed by any other team from the top-10 (or even 15) that year. Next.
re: re: re: re: ? | 7:32 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
I am your daddy, junior. Look at the patsies on '04 Pitts schedule. Compare it to the real teams '84 Michigan played. Michigan played a real schedule, Pitt was a pretender. Next.
ZOOBIE DOOBIE DOO | 9:04 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
The '04 Pittsburgh team would have DESTROYED the '84 Michigan team.

"Michigan palyed a realy schedule..." But they didn't win very many, did they? The measure of a good team isn't "who you played". It's "who you played, AND BEAT". Anyone can lose good teams. Just ask Fla. Atlantic.

All this speculation about how '84 Michigan was "more competitive" than '04 Pittsburgh is just cougar envy. They weren't the FIRST team to bust the BCS (in fact, they're still seeking their first inclusion).

BYU has played the role of pretender for the last decade, and it KILLS them to see the success the Utes have been having. The advantage the Y has had over the U during the 70s and 80s has evaporated. The Utes' seasons have been trending upward, while the cougars have trended downward. Now with the last 2 seasons of some success, they try to beat their chests and scream "dominance" but they know 2 and 7 point victories over their rivals isn't exactly "domination".
define domination??? | 6:56 p.m. Aug. 7, 2008
i would say winning is what counts the most and im sure bryce...oops, wheres my man, mcain would agree. honestly winning by 2 points and seeing such suicidal fans makes the year even more special...we have plenty of teams to steam roll through the year that one game against said utah team doesn't mean a whole lot does it
