Women bring their own problems in the work force on themselves. We had a woman and her problem was she liked to talk all the time. And in my line of business we can prove what work you do. she did very little. It was laughable how little work she did. Then she takes a leave of absence with pay for 3 months to have a baby (salaried management get pay on a leave of absence). While the men get 2 weeks leave of absence when they have a baby. Then when she gets back, she quits and goes to another company. I've seen that same thing happen twice now. Other women we work with call in every time a kid gets sick, or they just dont show up because they don't have a baby sitter. So we take a huge gamble every time we hire a woman. I'm sure that's the same with other industries. That's why women are having a hard time getting the same pay. So quit whining. Lot's of women are just no good in the work force. Sorry to give you the truth.

Men are stronger than women. Is that in dispute? Might that have been one reason for choosing men over women for early space missions?

Of course, men and women should be treated equally when it comes to opportunities within the science community. But when physical strength is of critical importance, men will always be favored over women.

To many women the job is secondary. I work in the geotechnical engineering field. We have hired many women over the years and nearly all have quit when they get married, when they have kids, or when they change their minds. We recently hired a women, spent a lot of time, money, and effort to get her trained and up to speed with company policies, only to have her decide after 60 days with us that she wants to teach high school math. I told she's going to have to learn math now. Most of the men have been with us for over 7 years, I have been here 15 years, and several men have been with the company for over 20 years. It's not that women can't do the same job as a man, it's just that men are a better, more stable investment of company time and money.

Cry me a river women. I have worked for and with many women and the majority are a waste in the workforce. Most of the workers knew they were in positions because they were women and the company needed women in leadership. They were not qualified other than they were women. Like previous comments, they took more leave than the men, talked more did less and when the economy turns they keep their jobs because it is hard to get rid of them because they are women.

White men should be complaining not women.

While you ramble opinions about problems with working women rather than solutions, watch out men.

Frustrated by inequality in the workplace, women are now starting news businesses at twice the rate of men - and they are staying in business longer and more successfully than men. While male-owned businesses are down-sizing and laying off workers, women's business are statistically doing better.

In the U.S. more women hold higher degrees than men in both math and science-related industries. They also make better grades. But they hold less than 4% of jobs in math/science fields.

But, you are absolutely correct that women, who must balance the dual roles of worker and mother, often have trouble balancing the two effectively. Instead of helping women, men have fought women - paying them less so they cannot afford daycare, for example. But rather than just give up, women are now showing their resilience and now own more than 42% of all privately-held companies.

As more men are laid off during tough economic times than women (because we are the cheaper workers), keep in mind women-owned businesses are hiring.

I look forward to the day when men are willing to take equal responsibility in the home front and women get equal pay and opportunity on the job front. I've worked with many women in my career, and most were very hard working at work and hard working at home. Both genders provide equally lazy workers at times, but how many of you husbands are helping out in a significant way at home?
