I just paid $3.61 at a Kroger(Smiths) near Richmond,VA. The HIGH priced
stations are 3.79.The fact that Utah folks are getting robbed so badly needs
some explanation.This affects me too,as I will be in Ut.next week,buying petrol
at such ridiculous prices.

We don't need a law for everything. Drive less and buy less and the price
we pay will be less. If you spend all day in an office somewhere, take trax,
max or carpool. Plan your trips to avoid excess driving and keep your car
serviced properly.

The oil people have us and they know it. It took a threat from the Gov. last
time to get the gas to come down. Gov. Huntsman should have followed through
with the investigation because now they've called his bluff, and we're
paying for it again.

Costco had gas here in Atlanta for 3 cents higher than QuikTrip. Costco! If

I was in Vegas Monday. I paid $3.93 on the strip. Off the strip it was cheaper.
The gast station right across the street from the rental car building (where
prices are always higher) was $3.99 There are some dishonest people here in Utah
keeping prices up. They are being slow to bring them back down on purpose.

Its good to know what to expect when we get out to Utah in a few weeks to bring
our daughter to school. With refineries so close how come its more expensive?
Our local Flying J in midstate PA was at 3.63 yesterday. Today its 3.69 and oil
went down. Interesting.

Filled up yesterday in Tucson AZ, 87 octane (lowest available in AZ) for $3.65.
Tucson has lowest gas prices in Arizona.

Sounds like a price monopoly in Utah.Is there not a law against that? Just

This article tells you about all of our greedy neighbors who own gas stations
although if you live close to Bangeter Highway the 7 eleven & Exon have gas
for 3.94. Utah Business owner are just very greedy what else can I say that goes
for people who are trying to sell their house for what is was worth a year ago.
The sad thing for these people is eventually someone is going to come in and
take their business away and then what will they do. If their are any business
owners out their tell me why you are charging 4.15-4.29 a gallon for 85 when 87
is better for your car anyway and it is 3.99 in Vegas. Give me a break and
don't say it cost more. Whether or not it is state they still have to use
I-15 so how can they charge more. Thanks Chevron for driving up the price. Your
gas is no different then Costco.

gas is $3.69 in Ohio..why so much in Utah as every where in the country has
dropped and we have dropped 3 cents...it is about time Mr. Chevron and Mr.
Sinclair quit robbing all of us...maybe our Governer could spend today Friday

All this means is that Nevada gas companies are not as greedy as Utah. Of
course, the cry in Utah is to drill more oil wells as if that will solve any
problems.

Let's see, our Republican Attorney General will not investigate, our
Republican Governor will not investigate, and our Republican Legislature will
not intervene, while our Republican oil rich President and Vice-president
preside over the biggest heist in history. The "Robber Barons" of oil
will continue to steal us blind as long as we vote their cronies into office.
This whole mess is not a matter of simple supply and demand, it is all contrived. We have oil waiting to be refined, but the oil companies refuse to build new refineries for decades, so they can drive up prices. See the record profits the oil companies are raking in. Their investment in politicians is paying off.
Democrats in Congress try to pass a bill to address price fixing and Bush holds them off for months with a veto threat. The Republicans just want to drill for more oil when while all experts agrees we cannot drill our way out of this mess. Can we see the Republicans are just trying to give big oil more profit for decades to come?
November is coming. Vote for a change, there are great alternatives in the Democratic party even in Utah County.

One thing people need to remember is we're paying 4.15 or whatever for 85
octane! I'm not sure about the east coast, but in the west I don't
think there is another state that offers 85 as regular, it's 87 which is
about 4.25 - 4.30 here, so when comparing these prices it's just ridiculous
that people here don't get that, not only are we paying crazy prices for
gas, but the gas we are buying is basically the cheapest gas possible to produce
that isn't even available for people to buy outside of Utah. (unless you
search for it) so when you do a cross comparison Utah's gas prices are
about 30 cents higher depending on where you are I guess. I'm glad Exxon
had another record breaking quarter!

Here is a Thought. In Utah a majority of the fuel we use is produced from wells
in the Western United States. Have the companies here raised their prices to
compete with the oil coming in from out of the country.
I thought that the process worked the other way. Why are we paying so much when the fuel is refined locally, produced locally and sold locally?
Another point, what is the cost to the supplier to produce that barrel? We never see those figures. Especially if the well was drilled in 2000.

Scandal? Controversy? Exxon Mobil just announced their second quarter profits
for 2008. $11.39 BILLION. Over the last 90 days that equates to over $126
million per day. I wonder if these oil execs have vacation homes in Utah? They
are making a killing here!

For so long Utah was below the national average. Why are we so high now? Come
on Utah, let's get it together. Looking at the comments, we are WAY above
the average. Everyday the news says that oil prices are dropping but here in
Utah we don't see it.

The Utah gas dealers are fleecing the consumer big time. Nationally the pressure
is to lower prices because of conservation and the lower price per barrel. But
our friendly local gas men are bucking the trend; they'd rather pile on
pain to line their own pockets.
Four days ago Dallas Texas prices were $3.69 regular and $4.45 diesel. Three months ago they were exactly the same as here.

Your liberal buddies in congress (from both parties)who are taking marching orders from the environmentalist crazies haven't let new refineries be built--not the "evil" oil companies.

You said...use trax ("other alternative"). BUT THERE IS NOT EBOUGH
PUBLISC TRANSPORT, TRAX IS ON THE EAST side of the valley, BUS...NOT many
routes, I wolud say 'just a few", What about a trax line on the west

According to GasBuddy.com, the average price for regular gasoline (again 85
octane) in Utah is $4.155. That is the fifth highest in the entire country. The
only states with a higher average than Utah? New York ($4.157), California
($4.247), Alaska ($4.604), Hawaii ($4.648).
California and New York have traditionally had high gas prices, as have Alaska and Hawaii for obvious reasons. But Utah? Can somebody explain this to me please?

IN June when my family came down from WA to visit, Utah was the lowest gas
prices that they had seen so I figure that it took us awhile to get as high as
everyone else and it will take us awhile to get down with everyone else too.
And Salt Lake you guys are always 3-5 cents less than us here in Cache Valley.

We have to get to work. So we have to buy gas. I work odd hours so I bought a
motorcycle to reduce my gas. And I drive less. It's made no impact.
I see tons of people at bus stops now. They're discovering tons of new oil recently and yet it remains astronomically high!
Do we have to burn a station and protest around it on international news to get our point across?

I'll be driving back to Utah tomorrow from California filling up in
Stockton for $3.93 and paying $3.73 in Wells Nevada. Growing up years ago it
used to be that gas was 25 cents more a gallon driving thru Nevada.

Got gas in Rigby, Id for just over $4/gallon last week. Rigby of all places.
Cheaper than at Smiths in Utah Valley even after a discount because of
groceries. The Exon off Bangerter was $3.94 last Saturday, but yesterday was
$4.07. I was surprised that wherever we went in Idaho - Pocatella, Idaho Falls,
Rigby, Rexburg and Twin Falls, that gas was cheaper than here in Utah. I am
fairly new to the USA and Utah and am amazed at how people here just take it.
If we all spoke up and went on a 2 day strike, the prices would drop.

Utah economics lag in many areas (look at the foreclosure market now). The gas
will follow too. It's not a scandal.

Just got back from a trip to Nauvoo. Bought gas in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri,
Iowa, Illinois, and Nebraska -- all 30 to 40 cents per gallon cheaper for 87
octane fuel than 85 octane here. Prices generally from $3.79 to $3.89 per
gallon.

there is clearly an opportunity to open your own station and steal all their
customers.
Here's an idea.. Open say 5 stations in the Salt Lake Valley that promise only to make a $.02 per gallon profit. Can you imagine how many customers you would have?
The only way to drive down price is to increase competition and abnormal profits ALWAYS invite more ocmpetition. No laws needed. Politics and regulation ARE NOT THE ANSWER!

It makes perfect sense that Gas would cost more here than in Las Vegas. I mean
we have those refineries in North Salt Lake. Perfect sense I tell you. And

In Connecticut, we are notorious for high gas prices because of the
extraordinary high gas taxes and we still have lousier roads than Utah, but this
morning I went by and it was $4.13 a gallon lower than SLC. And here I thought
I would get a bit of a break in Utah when I'm there for the last 2 weeks of
August. Someone besides the state gov. is ripping you off. Dishonest even in
the West. I thought only the East and Vegas had organized crime. Hopefully it
comes down by Aug. 15th.

The explanation for higher gas prices in Utah than in Las Vegas is not as simple
as "greedy oil companies" or "crooked politicians." Prices
for goods are different everywhere, and not just for gasoline. Fast food, such
as the fare at Wendy's or McDonalds, is priced differently in California
than in Utah or Texas. And if oil companies are "greedy" in Utah, why
aren't they equally as greedy in Las Vegas?
Concerning the "greedy" oil companies, ExxonMobil reported its quarterly profits yesterday. All the journalists who reported the story emphasized that the company's profits were the highest quarterly profits of any company in American history. But ExxonMobil is also the biggest company in American history. The Washington Post reported that its quarterly profits amounted to $90,000 every minute. But its costs to make those profits amounted to $874,000 per minute, and it paid taxes amounting to $274,000 per minute during that period. Simply put, we have to be reasonable and see things in perspective.

it's still true. Utahns are generally amongst the greediest people

I purchased fuel from my supplier on Monday for 4.019 + transportation (about
.05 per gallon). I am selling it for 4.159 per gallon. In theory I am making
.09 per gallon. However when a consumer purchases gas with a debit or credit
card the credit card company charges me 2.5% or about .10 per gallon. Someone
is making a lot of money on gas but it is not me.
