**Though Knight said he knows the Jazz are "Deron Williams' team,"**

What are we, British? Is it really necessary to adopt the ugly little habit of using PLURAL conjugations with SINGLE organizations?
Enough | 4:22 p.m. July 31, 2008
Being negative really gets old. Maybe you poeple ought to find another diet or medication. I can't believe what messages have been sent regarding someone who just wants to blend in. After all Knight was not the one who pulled the trigger on this trade. Have a miserable day jerks.

re: Belgie | 4:28 p.m. July 31, 2008
"Jazz are" is correct.

Whenever you refer to a sports franchise, the plural is correct.

The Grizzlies are playing next week.

The Bees are a good team.

The Jazz are awesome.
Dave in Midvale | 4:42 p.m. July 31, 2008
Hey "Belgie"

**"What are we, British? Is it really necessary to adopt the ugly little habit of using PLURAL conjugations with SINGLE organizations?"**

Utah Jazz = SINGLE organization
New Orleans Hornets = SINGLE organization

Jazz IS "Deron Williams' team"

Hornets IS or ARE??? It's a single organization, but you will have to use ARE there my friend AND use ARE with the Jazz because the s is implied as with deer and deer.

It's confusing.

But when I saw "What are we, British?" I thought you were referring to identifying a team by one player, like David Beckham. . . oh, that would be Los Angeles now wouldn't it.
JazzFanInHouston | 4:52 p.m. July 31, 2008
Knight's Wp48 win score is .10 similar to Harp's and Okur's and much better than Korver's, CJ's and Price's.

That will give you an indication of the overall quality of his play (assuming that he plays at the same level he has for the last couple of years).

best trade ever! Hart was awful, just awful

I have heard it is sloans team.

I have now heard it is derons's team.

Who is it really?

ljk | 6:57 p.m. July 31, 2008
Brevin Knight is a true point guard and a great leader. I like Ronnie Price, but Price is more of a shoot first "point" guard. How many times is Price mentioned for his passing skills, leadership, steals, decision making, etc? Not very often. We bring him up in discussions because his shooting is better than Hart's was, how he dunked over Boozer 2 or 3 years ago, and how he is athletic. Those are all great skills to have, but the Jazz already have the athletes and the shooters who tend to shoot first, pass second. They are in need of professionals and leadership. This will be what will make Knight an extremely valuable piece in the equation this coming season. I will bet whomever that Knight will be Williams' backup by midseason at the latest, with Price backing him up.
It's AP Style | 8:16 p.m. July 31, 2008
Associated Press style is to treat to all team nicknames (even singular ones like "Jazz" "Wild" "Thunder" "Orange" or "Heat") as plural nouns.

If you refer to the team by the location or school, such as "Utah" "BYU" or as an entity, (like "team" or "squad") then it is singular.

I'm excited the Jazz got Knight. I think he'll be a great player off the bench. Now if only they can do something about that lack of interior defense ...

Some of the posters must have missed their therapists or need to quit taking their cute pills. The era of the "Jim Rome" style of talking smack is dead unless you are still in high school. Stay on subject with some insight based upon research, knowledge, experience and logic. Yes you can post but that does not mean you should. Make a valid point not just blah, blah, and more blah. The Jazz up graded the team financially and with a better talent. Have any of you listened to the interview with Phil Johnson? He explained why CJ was kept. Go Jazz and their TRUE FANS!
benny | 9:39 p.m. July 31, 2008
I'm glad we got this trade through. He may not get that much playing time but I'm sure his playing time will be more effective than Hart's.

I always cringed when Hart would pull up for a shot, but then again, I always cringed when Kirilenko pulled up for a 3 last season too, even though he was much better at it than previous seasons.

Anywho, I'm happy for the trade and think it'll be better for the team.

GET RAJA BELL FOR THE 2 GUARD POSITION....WITH A LOADED LINEUP,DEEPEST TEAM EVERY IN TEAM HISTORY; TRADE ONE PLAYER THAT THE SUNS LIKE....RAJA BELL HAS THE TUFFNESS THE TEAM IS MISSING SO BADLY.ALSO SINCE WE'RE SO YOUNG,THE JAZZ HAVE NO VETERAN LEADERSHIP.......NO RAJA; NO CHAMPIONSHIP.....RAJA WILL PUT KOBE IN HIS PLACE LIKE NO OTHER JAZZ PLAYER CAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RAJA BELLS EQUALS CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE JAZZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
matt | 12:13 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
i just hope the season starts soon so you guys can have something else to talk about than correct usages of the 'is' and 'are.'

i've wanted brevin to be signed by utah for awhile now. good that they got him for jason hart. i feel bad for him, but as he said, things just didnt work out. brevin doesnt turn the ball over..hes solid..thats what you need to bring off the bench. things are lookin up for us guys!
RWT | 12:40 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Brevin Knight is going to be what Fisher was for the Jazz, but will be a better fit than Fisher was.
With Brevin, the Jazz when playing with a small line up, they can play Brevin at the point and Williams at shooting guard. When the Jazz have two players, that can handle the ball at the same time, that's when the Jazz are at their best. Go Brevin! and Go Jazz!
Slag | 1:47 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
I hope the "Brev-ity" of Brevin Knight's stay in Utah isn't too brief. I think he's great.
contract | 7:17 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Does anyone know his contract situation? How much, how many years, etc? Is he getting paid more or less than Hart was?
Bi-Polar Wannabe | 7:35 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
I love how people on here always call for trades as if Kevin can make anything happen if only he were to ask. "Trade for Raja!" Maybe the Jazz should just trade for Kobe and Lebron and why not throw in Dwight Howard while they're at it. They could trade Collins for Howard, Fesenko for Lebron, and Brevin for Kobe.

Does it make you feel brilliant calling for ridiculuous trades? The Knight trade was a great trade for the simple fact that the Jazz got something for nothing.
Not the Rockies | 7:49 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
I know, this is dumb, but we aren't part of the Rockies. The Wasatch Mountains do not in any way connect to the Rocky Mountains. It is a separate, distinct mountain range. Hence why we aren't all Denver Bronco, Rockies or Nuggets fans.
But, as far as the trade goes, Brevin is an upgrade over Hart & really aren't we just talking about the 3rd (maybe 2nd) string point guard? How big of an impact - barring injuries - can he really have?
RWT | 7:50 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Brevin has one year left and makes 2,000,000 and Hart has one year left and makes 2,484,000.
Go Jazz!
lost in DC | 8:09 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Belgie, blame the writer, not the person speaking.

Rick, I thought Raja was a good fit and beleive he'd be a welcome addition, but the way he left tells me he wanted out and I doubt he'd want to come back.

It'll be fun watching the point this year.
Joe | 8:14 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Acquiring Raja Bell to the Jazz would be the best trade for the franchise!! This guy is tough and gives the attitude you need on a team as well hardcore Defense at the SG posistion if Jazz could package a deal giving up Almond, Korver, and Brewer in a 3 team trade maybe even throw our rookie or Collins in the mix that would leave the Jazz with Raja and C.J. at the SG posistion tell me a team that would be more deap or more tough than that Jazz team? There is not ONE!!!
Zeke | 8:26 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Seems is if the Jazz got a player who wants to be here. He would have to be an improvement over Hart.
Anonymous | 8:34 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
He's definitely coming to a playoff team, but why imply that he wouldn't be on a playoff team with the Clippers? He'd be a nice fit alongside Baron Davis, plus now they have Marcus Camby with Chris Kaman in the frontcourt. These guys aren't exactly world-beaters, but they could be in the hunt for the postseason. Good luck to you here, Brevin.
Re: Not the Rockies | 8:42 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
The Wasatch Mountain range is considered the western border for the Rockies.

Lets hope Brevin will be a positive influence in the locker room. Seems that normally players who bounce from team to team aren't.
JMR | 8:54 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
The Wasatch Mountains form the western edge of the Rocky Mountains. I thought everyone knew that. While I do know several Colorado Rockies fans, and even a few Broncos fans, but not as many as you'd think if you were looking at Utah from only a geographical standpoint. Culturally I don't think we share much with Colorado. But when it comes to the Nuggets, come on -- who needs them when we have the Jazz?
kba | 8:59 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
To Not the Rockies:

You stand corrected. The Wasatch range is part of the rockies:

The Central Rockies are in northeastern Utah, western Wyoming, eastern Idaho, and southern Montana. They encompass the Bighorn, Beartooth, and Uinta mountains and the Absaroka, Wind River, Salt River, Teton, Snake River, and Wasatch ranges. The Uinta Mountains are the only major portion of the Rockies that extends east-west rather than north-south. Among the peaks of the Central Rockies, which include Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks, are Gannett Peak (4207 m/13,804 ft high), Grand Teton (4,197 m/13,771 ft high), and Fremont Peak (4185 m/13,730 ft high). (Information from MSN Encarta)

I like knight attuide, but i hope jerry doesn't just give knight the 2nd string because price has proved himself he can play the point, but again knight a true point guard. i think if we need to manage the game sent in knight, if jazz are down and we need to lite a fire sent in price. so Jerry be smart.
to bk | 9:03 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
hey bk maybe you should learn to play defence like fish!!!
to joe | 9:05 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
the jazz already tried having raja bell but last i checked he drop kicked the ball into the upper deck!! great player to have with sloan as the coach
Fedor | 9:19 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
You people can't be serious....do you even follow the Jazz or know who Jerry Sloan is? Ronnie Price will be the 3rd string PG within 10 games. Knight will quickly become a Sloan favorite and Price will be buried on the bench. Knight is a better PG, a smarter PG and a better defensive PG. I like Price, but he didn't even become relevant until the last 20-25 games last year.
blauch | 9:27 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
First of all - Bell can't stop Kobe - No one can. Second anyone who would trade Brewer for Bell is retarded. Brewer shot 55% from the field goal compared to Bell shooting 42% (Brewer percent would be much higher if he didn't jack up 50 3pointers - he is an awful 3 point shooter) To put it in prospective Brewer made 37 more baskets than Raja last season, while attempting 119 less shots. Finally, Brewer is younger and and has improved on his outside shooting every year he has been in the league. All Bell gives you is a good spot up 3 point shooter. We have that in Secret Agent Man. Who shot 38.8% at 3 pointers in Utah compared to 40.0% by bell. Korver also had his worst 3 point shooting year in the last 4 years. The Jazz problem is that we bench Brewer way too much for Korver
No Bell in the Rockies | 9:35 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Why would anyone want an out of control hack such as Bell to come back here to the Rockies and play for our Jazz?

And, by the by, is "Jazz" singular? If it is would you please help me with the plural version.

Anonymous | 9:36 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
hes making 1.6 mill not 2 mill
Cameron | 9:41 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Raja is washed up.

Knight is a great fit for the Jazz. He'll provide a much better presence off the bench than either Hart or Price did last year. And a little veteran leadership can go a long way.
Re: No Bell in the Rockies | 9:57 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Don't make fun of others' grammar when you ask questions such as "And, by the by, is 'Jazz' singular?"
mkbelle | 11:00 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
The Jazz's problem is that they bench Brewer way too much for Korver? I beg to differ. You are missing the bigger picture. The reason why Brewer's FG% is so high is because his 'shots' are all dunks/layups. The reason he gets so many of those is because the defense sags off when Brewer is in... NOT a good thing. Yes, he can sneak around the basket and score some points. The problem with Brewer (much as I like the guy) is that he's not just a terrible 3 pt. shooter, but a terrible shooter in general, which is why opposing teams aren't worried about guarding him. This is a problem for the rest of the offense, allows for easy double teaming of other players, etc. When Korver is in, whether he is hitting the 3's or not, his shot is well-respected, and he is closely guarded, stretching the defense, creating opportunity for others on offense. Example? Look no further than the playoff series with the Lakers, when they opted to pretty much just not guard Brewer. Also, IMO, Sloan had a hand in Korver's 'down' year from 3 pt. land. Hoping that changes this year.
duhhhhh | 11:05 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Raja Bell was a with the Jazz. Perhaps he left ya all because he didn't like ya red necks in the first place. So stop yer thinking that hes comin on back cause he aint.

Accept the fact that yer team is mediocre at best. No one wants to live in a State full of complaining fans like ya all. Maybe a different approach such as a positeev attitude make be wiser for ya all.

I was Educated in Utah and proud of it. You should all be proud to be Jazz fans and stop the whining.
Actual Contract Amounts | 11:08 a.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Brevin will make 1.6 mil where Hart would've made 2.3 mil. Brevin has one year left on the contract.

Raja | 12:11 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008
There is zero chance Raja comes back to Utah. You don't sign a contract in the first 10 min of free agency unless you really wanted out. It wasnt like he got rediculous money.
KOC All The Way | 3:39 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Settle down Jazz fans, Kevin has things under control. I just thank god that he doesn't have the mindset of some of you fans. Go Jazz.

Brevin will be starting when D Will breaks his leg in the Olympics..

Wait and see..
Grant | 11:36 a.m. Aug. 2, 2008
If you don't have a take just concentrate on pointing out spelling and grammar mistakes.

I like the trade for knight, I thought there was a leadership void when Fisher left. Unfortunately the Jazz are looking more and more like chumps for letting Fisher go to the Lakers despite their good intentions, they should have insisted that he go to the Knicks.
I think the only reason the backup point guard only got 8 minutes a game last year was because of the big drop off from Williams. I see Knight getting 15-20 a night with Williams playing a little 2 guard.
re: duhhhhh | 7:23 p.m. Aug. 2, 2008
As long as many people opted to make this a grammar lesson, as a long time resident of the south (NOT "Utah's Dixie") I feel it necessary to make a slight correction here:

The official plural of Ya'll is ALL YA'LL!

BTW I too am excited for BK to come here! Hopefully, Hot Rod will not have too many problems pronouncing his name!!!!!
