Are you sure Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson wasn't hiding in the grassy knoll to break Stockton's leg?...
Rich | 6:57 a.m. July 31, 2008
This is what I call non-news. Why? Because I didn't learn a single thing that I hadn't read in newspapers or heard on TV or radio months and even years earlier. I would welcome news on how the U.S. team workouts are going because maybe I would learn something newsworthy. But to rehash a point that's been gone over time and time again accomplishes little.

I would be interested to know if coach K can get Boozer to play some defense in the paint. Coach S dosen't seem to be able to. Maybe D Will can inspire him or the hope for a big contract.

Amen Rich, this is definitely a non-story, and quite frankly, will anger the superstitious (jinxing the team into injury). Knock on wood. Let's hear more about what the Olympic team is doing now, how they are preparing for the games, etc.

I completely agree with Rich. Why even bring up such an unpleasant thought, and frankly, obvious concern.

Oh come on...Stop complaining about a "non-news" story. There's not much Jazz news right now anyway. If you're afraid of thinking about someone getting injured, you should realize that basketball players can get injured doing anything. They can have a career ending injury getting hit in the knee with a plank of wood at Home Depot, so stop complaining about unpleasent thoughts.

No love for Okur?

Yes, basketball players can get injured doing anything, so why waste a column talking about it, and jinx the team in the process?

Didn't mention that Raul Lopez blew his knee out while playing for his Spanish Olympic team several years ago and as a result never developed into the player the Jazz expected when they drafted him. The Jazz even paid for the surgery etc....
USA Bronze | 1:21 p.m. July 31, 2008
USA basketball will take the bronze - if they play well. This team isn't big enough, fast enough nor does it shoot well enough or play D to get the gold. Time for the US to swallow hard and admit that the rest of the world is better.
when are these game on? | 1:22 p.m. July 31, 2008
Does anybody knw what time 2 Am? and which channel?
kram | 1:59 p.m. July 31, 2008
Haha don't write about it because it will jinx the team? Thats completely rational. Lets stop talking about team USA all together and slap our foreheads 3 times whenever USA basketball is mentioned...just so we don't jinx the team.

I think all of the games are on ESPN2--at least that is where they are all showing up on my Dishnetwork package. Some are also broadcast on NBATV as well if you happen to have that package. The game today started shortly after 6 AM MST I think--not sure if that is when they all are starting or not.

I also noticed that between these two aforementioned channels, there were multiple rebroadcasts of every game in case you missed one. I am going home tonight to watch this game that is recorded on my HD DVR. By the description on sports radio, 2nd quarter on, it sounded more like an NBA allstar game with all the al-e-oop dunks and slams.

Kind of glad our guys are not getting big minutes. I think it is good that they will be staying in game shape by just practicing against the top NBA talent in the world.

Who knows, maybe Booz will notice that other players can play good defense, avoid excessive fouling, AND stay on the floor. He seems convinced he will foul out if he plays any D.

Okur is not playing with the Turkish national team right now

am i the only one who sees "Deseret News" at the top?

This team will take the Gold. I'm not ever concerned about that. Their best line-up is anytime D-Will and CP3 are on the court at the same time. The game changes quickly when that happens.

I'd be interested to gather all the old guys for the original dream team to play this current team. The young guys may win but they'd learn a few lessons along the way. I'd like to see their faces when Stockton sets a screen like a brick wall and then holds their shorts like a vice while they try to get past.
MJ vs Kobe
Malone vs Boozer (I still say Malone would school Booze)
Stockton vs D-Will or CP3
Drexler vs Lebron
Magic vs J-kidd
Patrick Ewing vs Dwight Howard
