Great article James! So far I have been happy with the direction that RSL management has gone with player acquisitions. If their isn't a quality forward out to sign, then Real's focus should be to get a true winger, for service into the box. Case in point Olave's goal. Beautiful service from Chris.
...I doubt we see any addition to the team.
Sounds like they are pretty happy with what they have...and it would take a very skilled player to come on board.
I do like the calm, patient manner that Garth approaches these acquisitions.
If Espy gets healthy the trio of Findley, Deuchar, and Espindola would be all we need to finish the season strong...especially if Deuchar can put a few in the back of the net in addition to what he brings to the field. I love having a third forward to come in and cause havoc in the second half, but Yura and Nunez don't really help that cause so it really depends on Espindola's health.
If you look at what Garth and especially Jason have done to improve this team it makes me confident in any decisions they make to sign (or not sign) another in this transfer window.
I think RSL has tremendously improved the talent on the team and I am happy about that. We are in as good as shape as anyone right now to win it all. I think adding another quality piece would definitely help our cause. Even if they don't work out, it would still light the fire under the other players to start playing better or to loose thier playing time. I say go for it Garthy Boy, bring someone in who is money. Go RSL!!!
Jason and Garth have done an excelletn job putting RSL together. Hopefully they can find a player who can consistently score goals which seems to be the only major missing piece from the team right now.
Is that Jason's comments sound so different from Garth's. Sounds like Garth is willing to add a piece, even if it's a "minor" addition, whereas Jason would only do it if he finds a guy that's "much, much better than what we have."
Strange that difference.
sorry, its great to see the optimism here, but I think RSL is relatively thin. We are 2 injuries away from having some USL quality players out there. Other MLS teams have much more depth.
I say RSL is a very good team, way better than ever before, but we need more depth. Please sign a quality player or 2 (I can't believe we have 27 players on our team. I dare anyone to name 20 of them without looking at mlsnet.com).
Without looking at mlsnet.com...
Deuchar, Espindola, Findley, Movsisyan, Nunez, Beckerman, Morales, Williams, Kovalenko, Sturgis, Russell, Kirby, Cutler, Beltran, Olave, Joy, Wingert, Borchers, Mantilla, Rimando, Seitz, Reynish, Nimo, and Besagno (on loan to Seattle I believe). How is that?
havent heard from him and we are winning. sounds good to me!
Well my comment was given in sarcasm, but I doubt most fans could say that.
And don't you think there are several quality players we could get in place of ppl like Kirby, Reynish, etc... and for that matter players like Movsisyan?
I stand on my point, that RSL is only a injury or two from total implosion.
...Please.
I have to agree with me (sounds strange)
RSL is not only a injury or two away from trouble but how about yellow card accumulation or a red card? RSL is pretty solid in the midfield and on the backline, but RSL is still very thin at forward. I predict that this team will pick up a quality striker in the next few weeks.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me,
What team in MLS is not one or two injuries away from having some USL quality players out there? All of these players have a dollar sign by their name and you can only afford so many quality names. It is very rare to find a quality player that is as cheap as a USL player. But honestly, try to explain to me how any other MLS team is any different when it comes to the depth of their roster?
Unfortunately, the nature of MLS and its stupidly low salary cap and player restrictions make it so that every team in MLS is extremely thin. Most teams can't afford to have anyone of quality past their 18 man roster because the salary cap is so low. Development spots salaries in the league are like 18K per year. How can you expect to attract quality talent with that?
RSL I think has built this team very intelligently under Kreis and Lagerwey. RSL has a good nucleus but is lacking that finishing quality. It doesn't necessarily have to be a striker. Someone like Lauren Robert (TFC) would be a great signing for us. A quality attacking winger. I also agree that going an getting an overaged big ego player like Borgetti is not the answer. If RSL gets a DP this year, it should be a young and rising star that is below the European radar. We tried for Reinaldo last year and I think that was a brilliant target. Too bad we couldn't get him. Go get a quality young striker and pay him. Kick off the new stadium right!
Why do you all believe the only good players are the ones making the big money the mere fact the developmental players are making such a ridiculous salary speaks volumes for their passion and dedication. They deserve a little credit.
They have cover at every spot, not something every team can say. Supposing the Jazz lose a couple of their best players to injury, how good are they?
