Won't fly with the LDS church. Them gentiles crack me up.

Matt

Yeah, that's right, gambling ought to bring 'em out!

Idaho Boy

Driving around makes even less sense now...

A Better Idea from the dumb hicks in a nearby state:

If you build a church on just about every corner, let 2 or 3 or 4 congregations share it every couple of hours, people could walk to church. It's healthier, too.

Oh, wait, isn't that what you already do in Utah?

Georgia Bob

Get real. A gas raffle to get people to come to church. Where is the faith in that? It's all about filling the pews so they can fill the plate, so they can fill their pockets!!!

Republican Party = Immoral Party

It's wonderful to see Churches seeking to address the problem of gas prices imposed on us by President Bush. Satan doesn't care about the suffering caused by high gas prices and seeks to inflict even higher prices on us until we cave and give him more oil leases.

We can do what's right and start addressing our current gas problem by Congressional action and if Bush vetoes legislation addressing the problem than Congress should override that veto and if Republicans prevent a veto override than Congress should work with the states to address the problem to get around them.

It's time that good people everywhere do what is right. The first step to end the gas crisis is to end the immoral war in Iraq, and to drill on our current oil leases and research energy alternatives. This isn't difficult but the devil and his party are intent on making sure we don't do that.

May God have mercy on Republicans for they have chosen to align themselves with Satan. They are immoral, lacking in integrity and hate God and the scriptures instead preferring to wrest the scriptures to fit their evil and immoral agenda.

Pastor

As a pastor, I am convinced that this is the result of a church having little spirituality to offer a congregation. If the congregants have no other reason to attend worship, the church is already doomed to fail, even with gas.

How about a gas stipend for doing your home teaching? Of course, in Utah everyone lives so close to the families they're assigned that they walk to their appointments anyway.

Mahonri

Why don't more of the lazy Utah Mormons walk to church? It isn't like you have to drive 70 miles each Sunday like our family does.

I am appalled at the comments posted. What does this article have to do with Republicans, Mormons, or Satan? Why do you make this in to more of an issue when the article clearly states that several Utah churches haven't heard any issues from their congregations about not coming due to gas prices. Everyone hates high gas prices but rolling in your own faith and/or political agendas isn't responsible.

The bible does tell the story of a little widow whose cruz of oil wouldn't run out. Perhaps cruz is Aramaic for gas tank. If it's good enough for a widow... well... maybe I'll just keep paying my tithing.

Joyce

The LDS chruch has ward in the city which make all of them in walking distance for their memebers. How hard is it to get up a littler on Sunday and walk to the ward in the area?

Idea????

Just eat a bowl of beans. You will have plenty of gas to attend church. But you may still cause attendance to go down...... You may even find yourself alone, republicrat or demacan.

Joan

Mahonri, only in Utah can you walk to church. That doesn't work in other countries and states. We are lucky. I do see many, many people walk to church however. I can't imagine what church is 70 miles away but from your comments they need to do a botter job of teaching tolerance and love. Come to ours and you won't have to drive that far.

Beth

Wow, weird.

I live in Utah now, but in the past when I lived in the East I had to drive 50+ miles round trip to the LDS branch. I know there are people there who drove farther and will struggle.

I'm also sure there are congregations of many denominations throughout the country facing this problem.

huh

I have two churches one block away, 3 more churches 4 blocks away. But yet I do not go.

Church attendance is overrated. Doing the Lord's work while loving him is still where it is at.

I think the point wasn't that they couldn't afford the gas money to come to church, but that has gas prices have impacted or not impacted the collection plates/baskets/direct deposit.

My catholic church has a direct deposit way to give to the parish, a similar method for the diocese. Helpful for people and the parish when folks are out of town for vacations, family visiting in summer and during holidays. Not everyone takes advantage of the direct deposit though.

Catholic churches in cities and older surburban areas are within walking distance, but in more spaced out suburbs and rural communities - people drive.

I'm with the pastor. Church shouldn't be about immediate gratification of "what I can maybe get now". It's about eternity.

not biblical

What's next...lottery for house payment.

I just love it when people get off the topic and rant about how the gas prices are "imposed" on us by Pres. Bush. What a lot of loons are out there! And republicans have aligned themselves with Satan? Seems like our previous Prez was "aligning" with anyone in a blue dress and a beret! Keep the kooky comments coming. They are not only entertaining, but they let us know the depth of the democrat mind is about as deep as a puddle.

You will find that true blue mormons will always condemn what other Churches do because they believe ONLY they have the true church!

Whatever. People are sure getting tired of the Mormon arrogance.
