NO K-Mart | 8:27 a.m. July 24, 2008
I would rather shop at Wal-mart than i would K-mart,
We have a K-Mart in Provo, one time I had to go buy something their, I was really disapointted in the store, The floors looked liked they have not been cleaned for over 6 months, The shelves were low on everything they gave me the rundown "we will get it in next week," I am tired of that line. I had two wait in line for about 20 minutes, I will never shop at K-mart again,

I can go to Wal-Mart and find everything I need , K-mart is another story, The people are so rude, They have no Idea what they are doing half the time It was just the Provo store where I refuse to shop , They alwasys have one person helping 15 people, What is the deal? Now maybe the stores thourgh teh Salt Lake Valley are alot more Friendly, Infact I know they are, I would travel to Salt Lake before I would shop at the provo K-Mart

Just say no to Wal-Mart. I agree that the K-Mart store has really gone downhill in the past several years and you can rarely find a clerk to help you but a big new Box will not entice me to shop there.
I once went with a friend who lived on the west side to the W-M located on 13th South, I thought the meat product were an odd color, not old but a unnatural red color. My friend bought her kids clothes that were poorly made and I asked her why she shopped her -"Oh the people are so friendly and the prices are cheap". I can't imagine you save money on clothes that fall apart in a short time and who knows what was done to that meat.
Wal-Mart will hurt stores like Tire Buys, Albertsons, Dan's and many of the stores in Foothill Village. Thankfully, I don't have to shop on a budget and therefore I will never set foot in a Wal-Mart east or west side again.

I think it is time to have the K-Mart store go. K-Mart has been going down hill for a long time. Years ago they were a good store. Wal-mart is not bad as far as finding what you need with prices a little lower. I used to buy clothes there, and every once in awhile I find something that works, but that is not what I am looking for when I go in. Maybe a Target can go in. I am not certain if Target is in the Utah area as I do not live in Utah any longer. But Target is a nice store. Maybe that could be considered, or even a nice clothing store or nice strip mall with some great stores like what had to leave the downtown area.

The issue is that the Master Plan and zoning laws do not allow big box retail once the current use of the K-Mart building stops. Neighbors who are affected by what is built there have been voicing their preference against large retail stores since K-Mart snuck their project through the system forty years ago. That community preference resulted in the community Master Plan, which itself led to the current zoning. The people in the area are happy that their efforts finally resulted in laws that protect their property from the effects of large retail, and want to see those laws -- the zoning -- protected.
Wal-Mart was aware of the zoning when they bought the property, and should not expect to be able to have it changed just for them.
