Poor Aggies | 10:14 a.m. July 23, 2008
Anyone else what to put together some money for our little brother to the north so they can improve their football team? I feel so bad every year.
Joe Moe | 10:21 a.m. July 23, 2008
Well, this prediction isn't too surprising, now is it? At lest, like last year, it's not going to be too hard to exceed expectations.

I'm not sure how more $ is going to help, Poor Aggies (10:14). It's about finding good players who are willing to come play here, isn't it?
Ross | 10:28 a.m. July 23, 2008
The only way the Aggies can regain respect as a football contender is to WIN games. Other statistics are meaningless in the respect game. Go Aggies!

great comment captain obvious
Recruiting | 11:16 a.m. July 23, 2008
If Wyoming can recruit players to Laramie (have you ever been there), then Utah State can certainly recruit players to Logan.

Utah State just needs a head coach who knows how to rebuild a program and can sell the vision of being an integral part of rebuilding the program to his recruits.
Get a New Coach!!! | 11:23 a.m. July 23, 2008
The Aggies need to get a new coach that actually recruits in the State of Utah. Snow College has better talent than the Aggies.

The Aggies have offered fewer Utah players than either BYU or UTAH. Wouldn't some "2nd tier" Utah talent help the Aggies?

I would like the Aggies to hire Snow College's curent coach--he has been very successful, and understands the State. Brent Guy is a JOKE!!!

How could they do this? I would have never have guessed this would happen. I can`t believe with a great coach like Brent Guy.
Aggie Alumni | 12:06 p.m. July 23, 2008
Aggies have quality players, see the # of drafted players the past few years. The problem is the dude calling the plays. I give Guy 2 games and he's gone. When he's gone even I will do the Scotsman.
wouldn't be surprised | 12:32 p.m. July 23, 2008
I wouldn't be surprised if the aggies somehow found a way to finish 10th in a nine team conference.
Sad Truth | 12:43 p.m. July 23, 2008
I have watched USU football for years and can't argue with the prediction of the cellar. This is the 4th year for guy it should be his players his systems everything should be in place. No excuses this season he had his 4 years get something done. And unlike everyone before him he had the WAC as a tool to recruit with and it hasn't helped.

Only 12 more games of his boring brand of football then see who will come next. Hopefully it is somebody that will try to install the occasional forward pass.
Enuf | 2:45 p.m. July 23, 2008
Why were the Aggies able to do so well in the 60's and 70's. They had a strong defense! First rule of football, get yourself a defense. Isn't that what Guy was suppose to be good at?
Hire somebody that has an idea of what defense is and then you put yourself in position to win games.
Then find someone that can put together a game plan and make adjustments at half time. The Aggies have stuck to a game plan for a the whole game. The other coaches make adjustments. I have enjoyed watching U of U and Boise State with the trick plays. Why aren't they used more often. It the Aggies tried one it would fool the whole conference.

Better to be last in a conference with somewhat of a name, as opposed to being middle of the pack in a noname conference...

The pick is right where we should be... We stink!
slc aggie | 5:18 p.m. July 23, 2008
you will never get blue chippers up there or players even close, so my suggestion is change the scheme to small, quick, aggressive and powerful....find players such as the air force has and run something similar...you'd be the only one in the wac to run wishbone or wing-t etc....and maybe teams would have to prepare for you instead of having an 'organized scrimmage against utah state on saturday'!!!
dartstock | 5:37 p.m. July 23, 2008
These are preseason polls, so give the Aggies a chance before jumping on them. Keep in mind that Nevada, Fresno, Boise State, Hawaii, Louisiana Tech, New Nexico State, Idaho and San Jose State will be stiff competition. Good luck to Coach Guy and his staff.
Idaho | 7:38 p.m. July 23, 2008
USU football has a lot of room for improvement, but with Idaho losing a lot of their scholarships and the fact that Idaho was worse last year, I think USU won't finish last in the WAC.
Exceeding Expectations | 9:13 p.m. July 23, 2008
Each year the Aggies are predicted to be last in everything. Naturually, I expect that they will win no games. But than each year they surprise me by winning a couple.

Go Aggies! Win 2 games again this season and blow off a bunch of games that you could of won!!!

Mike Johnson Fallon NV | 11:03 p.m. July 23, 2008
Both wins last year were at New Mexico State and at Idaho. If the Aggies can beat these teams at home this year, than they probably won't finish in the cellar. Of course, I thought that 2 years ago. In 2005, USU beat both New Mexico State and Idaho on the road and then lost to both those teams at home in 2006, winning only--surprise, surprise--against Fresno State.

And the Idaho game is sandwhiched right in between the games with Utah and BYU. I wonder how prepared they are going to be with Idaho. I do hope, the Aggies can win some games and get some respectability back to their program like they have in their basketball program.

I agree with the comments about Coach Guy being hired because of his defensive resume.

I hear good things about the new AD at USU. He plans to increase fundraising--which is his resume--and also to improve football. He did both when he was AD at Eastern Washington, which has gone from the cellar to a contender in the Big Sky.

That said, it has to be hard to be the third football program in a state the size of Utah.
To: USU Athletic Director (Help) | 8:56 a.m. July 24, 2008
Like any struggling organization it all begins at the top. There will be no changes at USU until there are changes at the top. To watch this great organization, die over the past several years is sad. Also to watch how the poor leadership at USU football has tried to turn it around is crazy. Where in the world did they learn their leadership skills? Look what they did in recruiting this year what a mistake. Athletic director please make some serious changes now!!! Get a top quality foot ball coach, and that will take money. It has to be done, there is alot of talent in Utah and a large fan base.
Providence Aggie | 9:05 a.m. July 24, 2008
Being picked last is a great place for the Aggies if they beat NMSU and UI and two others (UNLV and one other conference game) they will double there wins again this year! Let all Aggie faithful hope they do whoever the coach is!
