Dave, I like your post on Jaycee. You obviously know basketball AND watched the game. Jaycee is an excellent all-around player, and he's not that bad on defense, either. He's extremely athletic, and if he were black, he already would be signed somewhere in the NBA. The Jazz would probably have signed him, but they already have a 6'2" guard who can sky 40 inches in Price. Jaycee will have a great future in the NBA because he plays an all-around game. He passes crisply and will become better at playmaking when that becomes his primary responsibility. He forced his opponents into help on defense, and then the help backed away. With starters as team mates, Carroll will do just fine. I've always hoped the Jazz would pick him because many times the Jazz need a deadly outside shooter, but with Korver and Price on the bench, there's not much room for Carroll. By the way, who do you think would win a one-on-one matchup -- Almond or Carroll? I would bet on Carroll. Both have as sweet a shot as there is in the entire league. Both must develop defensively, but Carroll puts out 100% all the time.

Korolev is not going to make the Jazz team. HE knows that already. He's only playing with hopes that another team will notice him and give him a shot.
The roster is full. PG:Deron Williams, Jason Hart, Ronnie Price, SG:Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, Morris Almond, SF:AK 47, Matt Harpring, PF:Carlos Boozer, Paul Milsap, C:Memo Okur, Krylo Fesenko, Kosta Koufus, Jaron Collins.
That puts our roster at 14 players signed and accounted for! We are allowed to carry 15 players. If the Jazz keep CJ that will make the team full. If they let him go that leaves ONE spot and Korolev is not going to get it. I doubt anybody playing on this review team would get that spot.

There is no conspiracy by Utah and BYU fans to keep USU down and Carroll out of the league. It was not Y or U fans that made 30 teams pass on Carroll twice in the draft. It may be that he is a completely one dimensional 6'2" SG and they simply don't work out very well in the NBA.

He will have to learn to play PG if he has any chance because just the thought of him guarding guys like Kobe Bryant at the 2 makes me laugh. Even then, he is going to have to improve his handle a lot, learn how to direct an offense after playing off the ball his entire college career, and prove that he can guard NBA PGs on the defensive end.

RMR is not evidence of that. His not being there is business decision. If the jazz really wanted him there they last year and this, they would've dealt with his contract situation as quickly as possible.

It's a very simple formula to win championships:

Solid interior defending bigmen surrounded by shooters and scorers.

Every team in the lasst 30 years has followed this formula.

The teams that didn't did not.

The jazz last season:

no interior defense,
a center that wants to stand outside and shoot,
a shooting guard that can't shoot,
a small forward that's playing out position and can't counted to score reliably.
only deron williams is piece in the championship formula.

It should be no suprise the jazz have never won a championship.

Sloan's system doesn't even run plays for the smaller positions, they're afterthoughts. Even with great bigmen like duncan you haveto have a system that has planned scoring from the smaller guys.

Test the formula! It works.

I don't understand the dislike of AK. He is hard to fit into Sloan's cemented offensive system, but his long-armed defense is very important to the Jazz. Good teams generally have a long-armed athlete in the SF spot like Scotty Pippen. AK is necessary for defense against the brilliant SGs and SFs in the West.

Some facts: As we know now Hart has been traded; Kover's contract expires after the 2011 season. When judging talent, how does the talent fit into the scheme of the Jazz. Is there an improvement. What are the trade offs; ie a scorer but not as good on defense. Not knowing what other moves the Jazz may do, it is hard to know where Miles may fit. What they do know is the attitude of a player; work ethic and what is seen each day in practice. Yes Miles can score but no intensity or toughness on D. CJ is not essential to the Jazz's future success. As has been mentioned by some, the Jazz do have a salary cap to work within. Boozer is what he is. Let's give him up for what? The big tasks ahead is after next year to see what Booz and Okur will do and how will the salary cap be spread around. Maybe KOC will make a move prior if he discovers what their true intentions are. Deshawn didn't hear what Sloan was preaching. Is Miles not hearing as well after three years? GO JAZZ!

I have to agree with Bigjazzfan, it seems that even Sloan has praised Miles' work ethic when he has come off the bench "ready to play".

I think that the Jazz will give him the contract.

How long does it take for a big man to develop? I think that it will be 2 more years for both of the new bigs.

you guys are killing me with your almond comments! miles has not "proven" himself to alot of you because unless your salary is 8+ million a year your not to take more than 5 shots a game. if sloan let c.j put up 10-12 shots a game he would score more than boozer every night. when miles is in the game he gets a play called for him maybe one time the rest are broken plays where he gets open looks..
just one thing for you guys to think about did any of you know t-mac was drafted by toronto & played horrible there for 2-3years.. orlando picked him up & he flipped a switch c.j could be that guy for sure.

I'd like the Jazz roster to be tweaked to look something like this in the near future.

PG: Williams, Knight/Price
SG: Miles, Almond
SF: AK, Brewer
PF: Boozer, Millsap
C: Okafor, Memo

That's right - keep CJ and start him at the two and bring Brewer off the bench behind AK. Don't keep Harpring, Korver, or Collins. Get a defensive presence in the middle - like Okafor... let's face it - Memo is a great backup center, but he is not the starter you need.

Players 12 - 14... get one serviceable swingman (like Harp and Korver) that you don't have to pay as much. (Don't get me wrong, I like both those players, just not their contracts and futures).

Keep one of the young bigs and be done with it... I mean, would player 14 really matter if you had these 11 guys? We have 10 of them now!

No mention of Jaycee's block on monday night. The crowd seemed to think that was pretty good defense. JC never had to play defense in high school, it was never is strong suit. Stew knew that, he took a chance... what happened? the best player to come out of the state of utah since Van Horn and Bogut. Half the teams in the NBA would be wise to gamble on JC as the 3rd PG. History repeats itself, the gamble will pay off. By the way, it is not a liability if jayce outscores his defender.....outscoring your opponent is the best defense thats how your win baby!! Any NBA team could run jc off a screen for 30 minutes a game and get a consistant 50% from three, when he is not the first scoring option (as he wasw in college) he might even do better.

I like Mo and i also like CJ, knowing the Jazz and KOC, he'll waite until Mo or Fes develop and trade them too or let them go. This is the guy (KOC) who wanted to trade Boozer for Chris Mihn, anybody talking about that? or the Greg Ostertag signing? oh Yeah? karl malone and John stockton should have left long time ago before there prime, when KOC didn't do anything to help them out, if anyone who should be traded it should be KOC for Danny Ainge
