A columnist from the Washington Post is speculating that the questionable news story about McCain naming a vice-presidential nominee is no more than an attempt to shift briefly away from Obama in the Middle East and to McCain without any real intention of naming a vice-presidential campaign. No Mitt!

If the LDS leaders can brazenly instruct Californians how to vote without the church losing its tax-exempt status, they would not hesitate to pressure a Mormon government leader to structure society according to their wishes.

Mitt as VP? McCain may well die in office (he's old!) and Mitt woulc then be president. The LDS leadership would then be in charge of the country.

I think Mitt would bring much business and economics weight to McCain's run, along with some badly needed gravitas. However, I don't think Romney adds a large voter base. But who exactly fits that these days in the Republican camp?

It would also be a great platform for Mitt to run again in '12 against Obama (already a done deal in the media).

I don't think that McCain's personal dislike for Romney will be a factor in picking him for V.P., after all he was held prisoner and tortured in Vietnam for 5 years, so he can probably stand to hang with Mitt for a few months. The real reason that Mitt won't be chosen, is that neither of the two candidates have Christian street creds. McCain seems to be luke warm on the religion thing, and the evangelicals will rip Romney's mormonism to pieces. As much as I would like to see McCain create this doomed ticket, he won't pick Romney.

Aside from offending Bible belters, Mitt's opposition to fuel efficiency standards in the automobile industry and his backroom deals with Ted Kennedy to block wind power in Massachusetts shows that he is completely out of touch with dealing with America's energy crisis. He said that fuel efficiency standards would hurt jobs in Detroit -- sorry, but the very gas guzzling cars that Detroit decided on its own to build is what is killing the American auto industry -- not mandates for fuel efficiency. And wind mills would look bad off the Massachusetts coast despite wind energy being clean and price stable for 20 years! Aesthetics over economics for Mitt and Ted!!! Mitt may be able to bring in Utah for McCain, but the black vote will bring the south to Obama if Bible-belters don't like Mitt, and the high-tech sectors excited about Obama's promise of $150 billion in investments in domestic, price-stable renewable energy will bring California and other high-tech states on board as well. Mitt will be a bigger liability than asset.

The talk about Mitt is to take away the cameras and news from Obama. Obama is loved by the world for lots of good reasons. Wait until you see the Germans go for him!!

The GOP needs to take everyone's eyes off of the fact that the world wants Obama because they have had it with Bush and the GOP. Frankly, it would be nice to have a president that the world likes, will listen to, etc. What a relief that would be, and how good that would be for us!!

honestly does it really matter? McCain is not a great choice, and Obama is even worse. We have no one to vote for who will help the country, and lower our taxes, gas prices, unemployment, and heighten our national security (and by the way, my fellow conservatives, going to war everywhere is NOT the way to heighten national security), but all you libs out there... neither is pandering to the terrorists.

Someone here said that the Mormons will run Romney, they never have yet. He made all kinds of bad decisions as governor. And which would be better a Christian religion running a V. Pres, or left wing lunatics running a US pres with zero experience?

I think Mitt does bring voters. He had an extremely respectable showing in the Primaries and he has handily won nearly every internet poll run in the last two weeks and there have been around 12 of them or so. I can only think of one that he lost actually.

Mitt would be better off sitting this one out, I won't vote for McCain even if Mitt runs with him. The anti-LDS comments from McCain's mother with McCain giggling did it for me. McCains disdain for Mitt was real and everyone saw it. McCain hated Mitt and still has a hard time saying anything nice about the family.

Romney should sit this election out.

Selecting Romney will only make the inevitable Obama presidency a sure thing. The entire south, generally a GOP stronghold, will go solidly for Obama. The Christian Right will stay home instead of voting for a ticket with a mormon on it. A Romney selection will put a lock on the white house for Obama.

Many factors to consider here, First, Many who feel uneasy about a Mormon as president would not hold the same feeling as a Mormon for VP. 2nd, Mitt would no doubt do the best job as VP, 3rd, My gut felling is McCain will NOT Select Mitt as his nominee for many reason I wont go into here.

Another gut feeling is, Obama will be are next President like it or not. And if you think Bush was bad, Well you haven't seen a major storm yet.

Hypocrisy is the name of the game with the liberals. "Since you're not voting for Obama, you must be racist against black people." "Romney? We can't have him in there, he's a Mormon." Very few people seem to notice this religious bigotry that exists in our nation. Make fun of a Jewish person's beliefs in high school and the ACLU will be after you faster than you can snap your fingers. However, my brothers have both been ridiculed and mocked for our LDS beliefs at high school, and do their best to stand and bear it with out getting angry.
I doubt the south would switch over and vote Obama because of a Mormon. The last time the south switched party preference, it involved much bigger issues (civil rights) and went from being very blue to overwhelmingly red. I don't the nomination of a Mormon to VP would redo that.
I almost wouldn't if I was Mitt. I'd suggest to McCain to go get Huckabee, the two were so tight and good at beating up on Romney the Mormon in the primaries.

If McCain picks up Romney as a running mate, his base will actually shrink. Anyone from Utah that has been to the south or midwest will know from experience that the LDS faith is not excatly welcomed with open arms in certain circles there. Personally I would welcome him to do so, anyone that wanted him to win would be pretty firmly against this idea. As for "giving him utah", duh like he won't win Utah rofl, half this state just walks in and checks one box.

I wasn't going to vote for McCain anyway. Having Romney as his VP running mate would guarantee an Obama victory, so I hope this happens (I doubt it will).

MY reasons for not wanting Romney as VP Likely differs than the majority of the country. Most people don't want a Mormon VP any more than they want a Mormon President. I could care less if Romney is a Mormon, I believe having him in office would be a step backwards for Americans.

If Romney is chosen as prospective-VP then McCain is sunk.

Personally, I can't stand Two-Face, but that's not why I'm saying this. It's not Romney's positions that will prevent McCain from winning. It is the fact that he is Mormon.

I'm not saying that's right, because I don't believe it is. But the fact is that very few Evangelicals will ever vote for a Mormon. McCain NEEDS those votes!

Based on that, I'll be surprised if the puppet-masters that control McCain choose Romney, but I guess I should be prepared to be surprised.

The negative comments made about President Bush are so ungrateful. President Bush has made it his mission for you and me to not have to go through another 9/11. I can say with great pride that he has done that. He has also taken every negative bashing for the past 8 years with great honor and courage. I would like to know what President Bush has done to you but protect you from our enemy? Our enemy doesn't care if you are democrat, republican, black, white, rich, poor, Christian, Jew, man, woman or child. All they want to do is cut your head off. What has Bush done? Doubled our national debt; involved us in unjustified perpetual war; destroyed our economy; trampled the constitution under his feet; increased the size of government more than any president since FDR; increased socialism in general (i.e., medicare, department of education, Fannie and Freddie bail out, etc.); destroyed the U.S. dollar through deficit spending (although the Fed is certainly equally to blame); bankrupted the U.S. Need I go on?

Please (1) study the constitution and its history to see what our president should and can legally do; and (2) determine if Bush has acted in conformance with the constitution. Then, think about things logically - is offensive (as opposed to defensive) war good for the country and its economy? Does spending ourselves into bankruptcy seem like a good road to take?

I wish people would really study things and use common sense instead of show loyalty merely because someone is a Rep or a Dem or because he "prays about going to war" (which is such a joke).

The choice of Romney for VP would put the seal of failure on the Republican ticket--and maybe that's what it is supposed to do.
The powers behind the scenes want Obama and we're going to get him.
The idea that the two most qualified men to run for president are McCain and Obama is ridiculous--so ridiculous that I am beginning to think it was a pre-planned deal!
There are a lot of Romney's political ideas I don't agree with, but I know people who have known him well for years, and I believe them when they tell me he is an honorable man. He needs to stay as far away from this mess as possible!

As much as I like and respect Romney, McCain is very unlikely to pick him as VP. Because the Republican party sold its soul to southern evangelicals decades ago, he needs their votes to have any chance at winning.

During the primary, those voters (as a group) proved their bigotry once again and rejected the most qualified presidential candidate because of his religion. It's part of the reason why as a Republican (who lives in a state that could go to either party this year), I'm leaning towards Obama. The Republican party needs to figure out where it's going and reclaim its roots in small government and personal freedom. The far right religious fanatics have destroyed what the party used to stand for.

Anyway, because of the evangelicals power in the party, I just don't see McCain picking Romney.

I know this is hard to hear, but those evangelicals don't like Mormons, they don't like Utah, they don't like anyone who isn't just like them and they certainly aren't going to vote for Romney, even as the VP.
