Will Romney be named McCain's VP this week?

No. At least I hope not. Doing so would seriously hurt whatever chance McCain may have to win the election.
Use McCain's failing campaign to transfer millions in campaign funds as a reward to the last remaining loyal LDS Republicans, who work in a significant portion of the call centers and direct mail operations on behalf of the GOP.
The rest of the country will support Obama, and upon his inauguration the U.S. Department of Justice will begin extraditing Republicans from their spider holes in the Beehive State to a venue where they can be held accountable for enabling the misdeeds of the Bush administration for the past eight years.
Instead of giving us cheap theatrics (Will he pick Mitt? I really hope so!), why doesn't he hold a press conference on how he plans to fix the economy, health care, and the problems in the Middle East? Surely this is more pressing than the American Idol contest for VP.
I wont vote for a Mormon. We have witnessed, in California, that members of the LDS Church get the instructions how to vote from the church.
I lived in Utah. I hate nanny government.
nobody cares, and the local media keeps posting articles about romney.
As bad as Bush has screwed things up, it's amazing to think that the democratic nominee is not a shoe-in to be president. But he's not. The current polls show Obama over McCain by just the margin of error. If I were a democrat, I'd be very, very nervous.
America is not ready to elect somebody who wants to raise corporate taxes - even though the US has the highest corporate tax rate of any of the major countries. America is not ready to elect somebody who associates himself with preachers who promote racist beliefs. America isn't quite ready to elect somebody who isn't committed to investing enough to keep the military strong.
Clinton was the only democrat to get elected over the last 28 years, and the only reason he won (with just 33% of the general vote) is because of Perot.
Obama will be a distant memory in a year.
Mitt's got too many negatives - Mormon, most money spent but didn't go nearly far enough, perceived as plastic, not conservative enough for the right wing of the party, flip flopping, etc. I like him, think he was the best qualified man running this time around. He can even talk - unlike our current POTUS. But I have to be realistic - McCain is already behind and doesn't need an anchor.
Wow! Good point! I hadn't really thought of it that way. But, makes no difference to me. I wasn't going to vote McCain-Romney (or McCain-anybody) anyway.
Obama '08!!!
Why not Romney?
Because, Most if not all conservative Christians in the bible belt which pretty much defines the GOP would not vote for a Mormon. Rumor is; they have a hard enough time w/ McCain.
The only thing Romney ensures is that McCain would get Utah's 5 electoral votes which he'll probably get anyway.
Utah, in November, brought to you by the letter R and number 0.
No
Look, Romney is a non-candidate everywhere but Utah. He is not viable and a VP nomination does nothing to help McCain win outside of Utah.
Pay attention to national politics and then get back to me please.
This religious profiling (intolerance) is one hand that tears this nation apart. The comment is equal to saying: I would not vote for Hillary because she is a woman; I will not vote for Barack because he is Black; I will not vote for McCain because he is a protestant; I will not vote for John Doe because he drives a Dodge; I will note vote for Jane Doe because she is blonde and listens to Brooks and Dunn.
It is a candidates political platform, not their religion, race or gender an informed voter votes on. This nation cries out for tolerance. Business cant discriminate; age, sex, gender, race and religion ARE NOT reasons to disqualify a qualified person, whomever they may be.
So what if Mitt is LDS, big deal. Look at the candiate's (and his running mate's) platform.
Romney is a liability for the ticket on an electoral basis (I am Mormon, and before you all jump on me for saying he's not good for the ticket, remember that is isn't just the Anti crowd--Romney was not consistent on the issues before or while a candidate). However, he would help fundraising. He would be much better suited to head the RNC, where his fundraising prowess and organizational skills would go a long way. Then, he makes his own political future when he does well electing Rs in the midterms (Republicans will recapture the House and/or Senate in '10 if Obama is the President). At that point, he could run for president again in '12 and be stronger than ever.
Rumor has it if Romney is the VP candidate, Huckster will be in line for the RNC job. That would be bad news down-ticket.
So, save your condescending view and your own bias. Mitt may get it or may not. But it's not just a Utah perspective that he is a leading candidate.
I think you're on to something.
With that said, it may not be in the best interest of the country to name him VP on McCain's ticket. For one, because he doesn't bring the 'southern vote' like Jindal would, and secondly, because it may not be best for the party, where he could be a very strong head of RNC.
Huckabee's not taken seriously, so I'm not worried about him on any national stage. He's already forgotten about in the GOP circle. But the republicans still have a very legitimate shot to win this presidential race, and conservatives should be looking at how to ensure that a left-wing liberal like Obama doesn't get into office.
McCain is a War Hero, yet that dose not make one a President of the Free World.
Sorry, but Mitt Romney is not a Christian.
Then, I suggest you hold onto your wallet. Watch taxes and national debt soar.
That was a view that has been thrown out the window long ago. Regan didn't win because George Bush was the key to getting the Texas vote nor because of his religion. Likewise, Clinton didn't win because Gore could carry the south (Clinton was already from the south, and he was criticized for not picking a more well-known 'elite' democrat from the northeast to help 'carry the ticket').
Selecting the VP now is to give the ticket broader experience. Their impact is based on their own personal qualifications, not their demographic.
I think it's hilarious to see all of those tunnel-vision commentors post things like "Mitt can only impact Utah". WAKE UP! Utah is going to McCain with or without Mitt, and if McCain picks Mitt, it's not going to be because of where he lives, what his faith is, or how he looks. It will be because of his economic experience and appeal to conservative america.
