Who will win an NBA championship first, D-Will and the Jazz or C Paul and the NO
Hornets? The Hornets were tough this past season. They may be stronger with
their recent signing of Posey. Interesting to watch. I know which team my
money will be on.

Nate S. said it well when he said why aren't the Jazz wheeling and dealing?
Because they had to play one player Derron Williams 50 million dollars. What a
waste and huge mistake. Obviously, he should get more than most of the Jazz
because he is the point guard. Miller is just about drawing fans and making
money for himself. He knows that he wouldn't be able to draw any fan
support if he didn't sign him and tried to bring in some other point guard.
Miller is selfish and the Jazz will never get very far with him as the owner.
You got to feel sorry for Jazz fans.

The NBA is a joke. The players are taking the minimum contracts to move to the
major cities. LeBron to NY, Wade to Chicago. Enjoy DWill for now. In 4 years he
is gone and so is Sloan. It would not surprise me in 4 years the Jazz are gone
as well. It is time to turn our backs on the NBA players the same way they turn
their backs on the fans. Bird, Magic and Jordan are gone and so am I. Adios.

It is absolutely nonsense that society values the ability to run up and down a
floor with a toy ball more than it values what a FIREFIGHTER, POLICEMAN, OR A

Your comment would be relevant to schools if the Utah Jazz were a government
agency, pilfering money from the school system. They are not a government
agency (although some in the state may think so). This is private business and
the free market actually decided Deron Williams' value.

Money well spent...IF it brings us a championship. If not, another example of
poor money management by the small market franchise with the big pocketbook.
It's time they cut prices on tickets & jerseys though, or at the very
least make those big dollar hounds pay 1 lucky fan a night (per home game) half
their game check! the winning ticket would always be from the cheap seats &
every player making over 3 mil a year would rotate to pay for every home game.
It would drive up ticket sales & also show the players actually are
supporting those who support them! NOW THAT'S A MARKETING PLAN WORTH
SEEING IN ACTION! It's not easy being a fan of those who have so much
& are so isolated from those of us who are paying their salary. We'd
like a slice of the pie too!

when dwills contract expires in three years, he will have the option to take a
fourth year, or opt out and be a free agent and sing a 6 year deal with any
team. i believe this works in the jazz's favor cause LHM has a ton of
money, plus if d-will stays it automatically makes utah a playoff team, with a
shot at a title, cuase he will make players around him better...regardless of
who it is.

what people are saying about this signing. Tell me you wouldn't trade
places with Larry or DWill or in fact, any player on the Jazz. If we could get
top dollar in our professions, everyone of us would. If we could make millions
by owning a business, everyone would. So get off your high horses and except
reality. Some people are successful and others aren't but everyone has the
opportunity to do so.
Do we complain about movie actors making $10-20 to do a movie? No we still go to movies. Do we complain about Leno and Letterman making $30-40 million a year...no we still watch them. It's entertainment to us, business to them. If Larry doesn't pay DWill the max...he's gone and so are the Jazz winning ways. If the Jazz aren't profitable, they leave...ask the fans in Seattle. Then we'll have something else to complain about...'Larry why didn't you spend more money on DWill?" We are one of 30 cities in the US to have a NBA franchise, we should feel lucky. Before someone rips me for being a 'frick'en idiot' movie actors
make a little more than $10-20 dollars a movie. Little mistake...forgot to
include the 'millions'. Yes, we only pay 8-10 bucks to watch a movie,
but how many movie theaters are there...thousands!! If we want to go to an NBA
game, we only have 30 cities to choose from. Now that DWill is signed KOC can
now do his work to builld around him...couldn't do anything until this was
done so give him a break!!!

Deron deserves all the money he gets!! He is the best player on the team and the
best PG in the league! Even though it is not for the max years it puts pressure
on KOC to find someone to surround him with after Booz leaves. I don't
think it will be much of a problem to entice free agents to come to Utah knowing
they can play with the best point gaurd in the NBA!

no post season games). If he plays 48 min a game that is over 4 grand a
minute.

This deal is good for both sides. Longer deals can hurt a team (e.g.
Andrei-remember when he signed everyone was so happy) because you can never
predict what happens in the future (e.g. injury). Plus, I think that with
options and future contracts to play for, the inherent reaction for someone is
to continue to play harder rather than to become complacent and comfortable.
Deron is best when he has something to prove and play for.

As a former teacher, (many years ago), I find it depressing that the public
supports the pro-athletic organizations paying such exhorbitant salaries,
however, the same public get their shorts in a wad over our legislators going
after the badly needed money to pay "good" teachers what they are
worth. What has the over-paid athletes of the past contributed to our society
that is of universal value? On the other hand, who can put a price on the
impact to our society of a quality teacher?
The issue here isn't about using the same money; it is about the public's acceptance and support of this ongoing resistance to increase teacher income enough to attract top quality personnel, while approving of paying millions to an athlete. I truly admire those few teachers who are dedicated, excellent educators that remain in the classroom because they love it.
In spite of my love for basketball and interest in the Jazz's success, I remain away from their games because I choose to use my money for other less out-of-control entertainment.
If I were the athletes I'd go for the bucks too, as long as there are those who are willing to pay.
The issue here isn't about using the same money; it is about the public's acceptance and support of this ongoing resistance to increase teacher income enough to attract top quality personnel, while approving of paying millions to an athlete. This signing is a good thing. All the new/big stars are signing 3 year deals ie. CP3??
Good for D-Will:
1. He gets his money/financial security for he and his family.
2. He makes sure the Jazz stay competitive enough to win....OR ELSE. Can't blame him.
3. Eligible for another max deal/more$ in 3-4 years which would be in his prime.
Good for the Jazz:
1. We have him here guaranteed 4 more years and he is awesome!! (last yr rookie +3year deal)
2. We have best chance to sign him at end of this new contract (earlier in his prime) and that new contract would end BEFORE he declines performance-wise. (33-34yrs old--better for the Jazz than if he made this deal a 5 year max deal)
3. We have a star that other players want to play with to help attract talent/free-agents. D-Will makes them look better.

D-Will is just getting what the marketeers of the NBA are justifying as JUST
compensation. If CP-3 is worth it so is D-Will. What about ALL of the other
players in this league that make more than that? I have no problem calling
D-Will our most important player but when you fans say how wonderful he is
I'll tell you one thing for sure. He also only plays basketball at one end
of the court. Quite frankly he is not a very good defensive player at all. We
only have a handful of players that really extend theirselves on the defensive
end and play to their god given ability in my opinion and that is Price, A.K.,
Milsap, Korver, Collins, Brewer and Harpring. It' too bad they all have
limited abilities. Now if the rest of the team would play that hard we would be
fine.

Overrated? He is one of the best young point guards in the NBA, He fits into
sloan and the Jazz style, he works hard, competes night in and night out, is
willing to take responsibility for himself and the team (Working out with the
guys at the review) Makes Utah home and is constantly involved with the
community. Although 50 Milliion is a rediculous amount by societies standards
it is not for the NBA standard. Therefore worth every ounce of NBA Standard
Dollars

I dont know how you came up with DWill only being a good offensive player!! He
is a very good defensive player. Just because he doesnt get steals or blocks
does not make him a bad defensive player. The most overrated defensive point
gaurd in the league is Chris Paul. He gets steals but he cant keep players out
of the lane. Just watch this season and you will change your opinion. Deron
stays in front of people and he doesnt get posted up.

I have loved D-Will since he put on an Illini uniform. Enjoy him Jazz fans-the 3
year deal w/player option for the 4th says a lot about his
"commitment" to Utah. This is the shortest deal possible, 5 years was
the longest. No compromise to 4 years. The Jazz had to agree to 3, or no deal.
D-Will's a great player and a good guy, but he won't be in SLC for
the long-term, unless he's given some very compelling reasons to stay. 3
years from now he is a perennial All Star on a team that won't get over the
hump. Do you really think he then decides to stay in Utah? Mark today on your
calendars-we get 3 more years of D-Will in a Jazz uniform, then he's off to
[insert REAL contender in big market].

If we now can address our defensive issues, and presence in the middle, we will be a top-four team in a very competitive WEST. The nice thing for us is that Denver dealed Camby and so we definitely won't have a problem winning the division again this year...Portland will probably overtake Denver this year if they can improve on last year...
As it is, with Boozer in his contract season, we will be able (hopefully) to count on him for a big year and better effort on the defensive end. D-Will is about winning, and as long as we have him, we will compete.

Since your facts are wrong I am saying your opinion is too. We have D-Will for next year, which is the last year of his rookie contract. Then we have him for 3 more years after that. That would be 4 more years--NOT 3.
If D-Will had not signed a 3 year he would have been viewed as a financial fool. All the young stars are/do. The reason: He can re-up after this deal for 30% of the salary cap at that time vs. 25% now. Duh! Thats a no brainer for him. He would have cost himself probably 40 million by taking the 5 year deal now.
As far as your compelling reasons for him to stay for the next contract??? There will be about 30-40 million REASONS when you consider the bigger annual increases and years on the contract that we can offer vs. anyone else. The SAME REASON HE SIGNED THIS TIME!

Captain Obvious! I was making a comparison of what a logical spending would be
for that kind of money. Rather we decide to give the money to someone who can

D-Will, as well as many other professional athletes, may not be in the spotlight
for what they do for their communities; but many of them are involved in
community service, setting up foundations, giving money to kids' programs,
helping out Primary Children's Hospital, etc., etc. It's just that
they don't have to, or don't want to, let the whole world know what
they are doing (unlike some of you bozo clowns). Just because we have a
professional basketball team available doesn't mean you have to attend
games or buy merchandise. The opportunity is there - the choice is yours. So
why don't you just quit complaining about each and every thing that
doesn't meet YOUR personal agendas!! Way to go, D-Will. You are a breath
of fresh air in this basketball business!

If the Jazz can keep Sloan from running off the rest of the affordable players, after paying the market rate for one of the games best up and coming players, who knows what the Jazz might accomplish?We all know LHM will never load up the payroll the way the Celtic did to win a championship.
If he is not going to change, I'd like to see Sloan get into Loozer the way he motivates(?) the other less skilled players. The Looz will be gone after next season. So what difference does it make whatever Sloan does to motivate him?
