They look just as bad and red as the last ones!

You can say that again! Just look at the hogs down at byU!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Wait just a minute!! | 2:25 p.m. July 17, 2008
Kewgar fans are going to lecture Utah about uniform colors?!?!

Need I remind you of the debacle that was the BIB-UNIFORMS, not to mention the introduction of copper or gold or rust or whatever that was supposed to be as a NEW school color!

Kewgar fans have no room to talk uniform smack until they give the Aggies back their blue.

HAHA Sea of Blue! When BYU shows up there'a all sorts of colors! Going to BYU game is like jumping into a bag of Skittles!
Trend Schmend is correct | 2:33 p.m. July 17, 2008
We should all just read his post at 2:12 and sit quietly and deeply and thoughtfully consider how superior BYU is.

Thank you for your time
BYU Lady | 2:35 p.m. July 17, 2008
Take out Hall, Unga and Collie to injury and see how well you do against even UNLV.
BYU Lady | 2:44 p.m. July 17, 2008
Wow... Nowhere did I insinuate that the 2007 UNLV game had anything to do with the 2004 Utah season. How you leapt to that conclusion we may never know. The first paragraph of my comment was refuting the nonsensical dismissal of BYU's National Championship in 1984 given by "To the ladies of byu." The second paragraph was clearly alluded to the equally inane premise that BYU will lose at Washington. While they might, the entire argument of "To the ladies of BYU" was that Utah is great based on the past, but we'll assume that BYU will lose in the future. I took the logic back to the past (albeit the RECENT past) to draw some corollaries...

Speaking of corollaries, did Utah lose to North Carolina in 2005? Just wondering... I'm not exactly sure how losses the year after a team is great matter, but since a Ute fan brought it up, I thought a Ute fan might know...
Candy Apple Red | 2:43 p.m. July 17, 2008
The Candy Apple Red helmets with sparkles are cool--not sure if that qualifies as Crimson, but what the hey. The new uni's are better than the "Coke Classic" uni's.

---------

Now that they've addressed the uni's, it's time that Utah got rid of the lamest and most sexist college fight song lyrics EVER. Get with it Utah; move into the 21st century.

"Utah MAN"

I am a Utah Man, sir, and I live across the green,
Our gang it is the jolliest that you have ever seen.
Our coeds are the fairest and each one's a shining star,
Our yell, you'll hear it ringing through the mountains near and far!
Who am I, sir,
A Utah Man am I!
A Utah Man, sir,
Will be 'til I die.
Ki-yi!
We're up to snuff, we never bluff, we're game for any fuss.
No other gang of college men dare meet us in a muss.
So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky,
We'll fight for dear old crimson for a Utah Man am I!
Ki-yi!
Re: Trend shmend | 2:44 p.m. July 17, 2008
Typical case of selective history to provide the numbers that you want. I don't think football started in the 1960's, so I bet that the totals they were referring to involve ALL of history, not just the part you like to remember.

How bout this for a trend? The "magic", miracles, gifted ref calls, or whatever dumb luck that has handed BYU last second desperation W's the last 2 years will run out. You've used up all your luck for a lifetime the last 2 years when you should have won by a lot more (not nearly lost both). Now that we are pretty evenly matched and you have no hope.
LOL | 2:47 p.m. July 17, 2008
byu gets lucky 2 years in a row and all of a sudden they've "dominated the past 30 years" hahahah good one
re: DUDS!! | 2:46 p.m. July 17, 2008
i like to read some of the pathetic stuff BYU fans come up with on this board from time to time, but "DUDS!! at 2:06 pm" has to be the best one ever...claiming that BYU is better because they get more people on the DesNews message boards is absolutely hilarious...

also, you can find game tickets to LES on ebay as well when the game is played there...i would know, i bought some...but Utah is not anymore spotted with blue on gameday as BYU is spotted with red...LES just holds more people...

on that same point, the number of people that write on the message boards and attend the game do not make the football team a good team...while it can be a cool feeling to see that many people watching you, getting cheered by 30,000 or getting boo'd by 65,000 makes no difference on how you play...it will get you excited either way...ultimately it comes down the players, and we can't do anything about it as fans...

good luck to both teams...i would say watch what you say, but we know BYU fans are too prideful to eat crow...dont tell that to their bishops though...
Skittles is correct | 2:47 p.m. July 17, 2008
I am a HUGE BYU fan (been to every BYU home game and many of the away games since 1987) but the sad and shaming fact remains:
If I see one more BYU fan (MAN FAN) show up to a game with a pink polo shirt with the color popped up I will have to tear it off his girlyness.

I cannot understand why BYU fans wear all colors (including the old 1980's and 1990's blue) but will not wear BYU BLUE to a game.
Last year was MUCH better - but I still saw several BYU (man fans) wearing pink at the BYU-UCLA game.

The shame was great - I think it is why we lost that game.
Interestingly the next week at Tulsa the BYU fans were all wearing Oklahoma State gear but at least to their credit it wasn't PINK
Re:BYU Lady | 2:51 p.m. July 17, 2008
Sorry Utah did not have anyone approaching Hall Collie, or Unga on the whole team last year. Don't flatter yourself.
GO UTES! | 2:53 p.m. July 17, 2008
The new uni's look good. Under Armor's good quality.

Also, to all the childish little posters from BYU, grow up. "FrUtes?" What are you in grade school? Do you realize how embarrassing it must be for the BYU program to have you representing their fans?

BYU has a good program... But it's only been that way since Lavell; then wasn't again; and now for the last 2 years it is again.

If you want to live off past glory, for like 70 years Utah was the dominant of the 2 programs, with dozens of conference championships.

And again it wasn't that long ago that you were in your Crowten years. Don't get too proud of yourselves. Besides you only barely squeaked out a win against us the last 2 years, after we led you for most of the game(s).

Save your Trash talk for November. Because if you haven't figured it out yet. Its better for both schools to be respected programs. Of course that may not have sunk in with some of you, especially the BYU poster making fun of Coach Whit's speach (a BYU grad).
Sadly Skittles is Correct | 2:52 p.m. July 17, 2008
I am a big times Cougar fan and can testify that BYU fans are possibly the worst fans in the country at wearing their teams colors - last year we sadly had to have commercials that featured BYU players and coaches requesting BYU fans to please wear the team colors to the games. NO OTHER SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY HAS TO DO THAT. Not even lowely Utah State.

It was better last year but there were way too many dudes cheering for BYU in pink and green polo shirts.
Choose the Right? | 2:55 p.m. July 17, 2008
Yep, I'm pretty sure that almost no one attended BYU in the 1920s and 30s. It was an Academy for the first 35 years of its existence, then a tiny University (think Westminster) until after WWII. It wasn't even accredited outside of the West until 1946, so very, VERY few people from that generation attended BYU. Total enrollment in 1945 was barely 1,000 students.

Since someone was dumb enough to bring up the leaders of the LDS Church, however, it's interesting to note that Pres. Monson is a BYU MBA, and he also holds season tickets to BYU Basketball (not Ute Bball, sorry).

Oops... I think I just heard a self-righteous bubble pop.
Perfect Goal | 2:56 p.m. July 17, 2008
"Our goal is to go undefeated. We want to be in a Jan. 1 bowl game."

FINALLY, someone from Utah who is willing to set a goal that includes more than beating BYU and winning a bowl game reserved for an also-ran in the MWC.
Nice looks from BYU fan | 2:54 p.m. July 17, 2008
Utah has nice looking uniforms - period. BYU also looks classy with their traditional design restored. Who is the better team in 08? Won't know the answer to that till about end of September so no use speculating.
Ernest T. Bass | 2:57 p.m. July 17, 2008
zoobs proving once again to be obsessed with anything to do with THE University of Utah.
Skittles has got a point | 2:57 p.m. July 17, 2008
I have been ashamed for several years now as I have watched man and boy after man and boy files into Cougar Stadium and then LES wearing every color in the rainbow - except blue. Some do wear it.

I do not understand the mental condition you must be suffering from when you wake up in the morning to attend a BYU football game (assuming you are a BYU fan) and you put a pink or orange shirt.

I just do not get it and it needs to stop.

I believe it was Poppinga who coined the term "the stands look like a pack of Skittles" in 2006.
Utah will be good in 08 | 3:01 p.m. July 17, 2008
If Johnson stays healthy Utah might be the best team in the MWC this year. BYU will be good on offense but defense is a question mark. BYU needs to be bigger on the D-line this year and more physical. If Utah beats Michigan in the opener look for a great season ahead. IF BYU can get both Washington and UCLA expect BYU to go undefeated the rest of the way.
They look nice. | 2:59 p.m. July 17, 2008
They really do look nice. Everybody will say, "at least they went down in style."
BLACK UNIFORMS | 3:02 p.m. July 17, 2008
they would look sick in black - bring them out against the team from down south
Maybe ... | 3:04 p.m. July 17, 2008
Maybe these will get Utah off SI's top 10 worst college football uniform list. No wonder the players are excited.
Talker | 3:08 p.m. July 17, 2008
haha. Led for MOST of the game(s)? What games were you watching?
Sustained Success????? | 3:05 p.m. July 17, 2008
Since 1993, BYU has had SIX(6) seasons where they finished .500 or worse. Utah has only had TWO(2) during that same time. Utah has more bowl appearances during that time, more bowl VICTORIES during that time, and more head to head wins during that time. Aside from a couple of conference championships, Utah has been every bit as good as BYU(if not better) over the last 15 seasons.

If you are having to go all the way back to the '70s and '80s to prove that your program is better, are they really better? Most likely not.
RE: Go Utes | 3:13 p.m. July 17, 2008
Leading for most of the games? Last year you didn't lead until 1:34 to go in the whole game! In 2006 you didn't take the lead until almost half way through the 3rd. You were lucky to be close in either of those games!
FACT? | 3:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
To the person who posted "FACT". Crawl out of your hole. And think again. There are a ton of well known UTES in Football. Your skewed view is ridiculous.

Besides what are you doing posting on a Utes related article on a Utah paper? Doesn't that also defy your stance?
Fashion design | 3:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
I would like to know the percentage of byu fans that are fashion design majors...that's really great - I'm sure your boyfriends are quite pleased.

I however don't care if our helmets match or not - I just like to watch football.

Maybe all of you should watch ice skating - they usually have fun matching costumes that I'm sure you will all enjoy.
Mickey | 3:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
The yewts stole their fight song from Walt Disney. It sounds a lot like the Mickey Mouse March.
Re: skittle is correct | 3:19 p.m. July 17, 2008
I would like to thank you for confirming, in your final paragraph, something I have claimed all along.

BYU fans DON'T TRAVEL AS WELL AS THEY CLAIM.

You said that a lot of the BYU fans were wearing Oklahoma State gear. That just proves that the large number of BYU fans at road games are just the LDS members living near by that came to see the church school. THEY ARE NOT REALLY BYU FANS, and THEY DEFINITELY DIDN'T TRAVEL FROM PROVO UTAH.

As for the Utes new uniforms, I think they look great! They will look even better when the team is celebrating the MWC championship in them!!

Go Utes!!!
Top 10 Worst | 3:28 p.m. July 17, 2008
Hey maybe....those bib unis the cougs used to dawn have to go down as the worse in college history. Also, USU called and they want their colors back.
Selective History... | 3:32 p.m. July 17, 2008
"to provide the numbers that you want"

you're too funny!

Selective history is selecting the last 15 years, but not the last 3. Selecting recent head-to-head matchups, but ignoring the recent overall and conference records. Looking at recent individual games only.

Counting recent success, but discounting recent failure.

Except for three calamitous Crowton years and two marvelous Meyer years, the balance of power has been trending in BYU's favor since the inception of the WAC in 1962.

How many top 25 finishes has Utah had, EVER?
How many conference championships (in the last half century)?
How many bowl appearances?
How many national awards?

Princeton, Yale and Harvard ALL have won more national championships in college football than Notre Dame or USC. Which schools have the best football programs TODAY?

Comparing overall records is interesting, but is completely useless in comparing the recent trends of the BYU and Utah football programs.
Blue Blood... | 3:36 p.m. July 17, 2008
Well, I hope it's going to help you guys, but we are still going to beat the heck out of you......LOL!!
I like the White ones better | 3:44 p.m. July 17, 2008
They will show the footprints much better as the Utes become the conference doormat this season!
Tyler | 3:45 p.m. July 17, 2008
Did they change the helmet color again... Thats the one thing that got better for them the last few years...

?????

RE: Choose the Right? | 3:48 p.m. July 17, 2008
I guess only the most righteous could attend BYU in the early days then? And if Monson holds BYU season tickets I'd better get in line? Pony Mendenhall went to Oregon State and Rose Pedals went to Houston. Why does it matter that Whitt or Young went to BYU? They chose to be a part of the University of Utah. The point that was being made earlier was that it really doesn't matter what school somebody went to, it is who they are affiliated with now. Obviously Hinckley, Monson, Pony, and Rose are assosiated with BYU and Whitt and Young are with Utah.

Why not bring up LDS leaders? That's the problem with BYU fans: they want to separate the church and the sports when it is convenient for them, yet at the same time use it for a "missionary tool". Either shape up reconcile your fanhood with your religion, or choose one or the other.

Oops... I think I just heard a self-righteous bubble pop.
To CTR at 2:55pm | 3:54 p.m. July 17, 2008
President Monson has season tickets to BYU? Why would he have season tickets...he owns the stadium doesn't he? LOL
Sustained Success!!!! | 4:00 p.m. July 17, 2008
Fine, comparing the absolutely best case scenario for Utah vs BYU in the last half century (it's obvious why you picked exactly 15 years, instead of 10 or 20 years):

1993-2007

BYU is 120-67-0 (64%) overall, 6-9 vs Utah, 7 conference championships, 9 bowls, 5 top 25 finishes.

Utah is 117-61-0 (66%) overall, 9-6 vs BYU, 4 conference championships, 10 bowls, 3 top 25 finishes.

A slight advantage for Utah head-to-head vs much better in championships and top 25 finishes for BYU.
Sad | 4:05 p.m. July 17, 2008
I find it funny that many of the BYU posters love to say that U fans post on their articles, proving that U fans are obsessed with BYU. You are posting on an article about Ute UNIFORMS! That is pathetic. Who is obsessed?
Objective Fan | 4:18 p.m. July 17, 2008
I swear that Utah is the mecca of immaturity when it comes to rivalry posts.

To the men and women with way too much time on your hands (from both sides), stop copying and pasting statistics from Wikipedia. Please, keep it to yourselves. Your statistics are as about as credible as me trying to convince you all that I'm Bronco Mendenhall.

Order? | 4:16 p.m. July 17, 2008
I am a Y fan and I don't know what all this talk about restoring order is about. The only thing that matters is the here and now. I hope BYU and Utah are undefeated when they meet. That will make for a great game.

"The harder you work for something the harder it is to surrender." Coach Vince Lombardi.

One team is just as good as the other in this rivalry. It will be a great game no matter what.
new uniforms | 4:25 p.m. July 17, 2008
New uniforms same obnoxious fans dreaming of college supremacy against big brother. Also maybe now that Utah fans and Kyle are so very excited about the new uni's they can get more than 30,000 fans to the game other than when they are playing the TDS! I cant wait to hear what the excuses will be this year after the cougars make it three strait with another last second miracle win.
BYU SUCKS | 4:42 p.m. July 17, 2008
Am I really reading what I think I'm reading? You byU fans are really so pathetic that you have to come and diss on utah's new jerseys? Are you really that bitter. Are you really that upset that the last 2 years the byU Utah game has really not been "dominated" as all you zoobies think? I know why you do it..... It's because you all are scared of losing to the U!
BroncoOutlaw | 4:47 p.m. July 17, 2008
This comming from a Boise State Fan.
I like the new Uniforms. They look tight.
Way to go. By the way You guys were great to me and my family when we played there last time. Thanks for the hospitality.

Re: Fact | 2:18

Here are some more facts for ya

1.NOBODY from xenophobic Utah County knows ANYTHING about what people outside of Provostan thinkeven if about BYU.

2.Just because you know a bunch of backwater bumpkins from Nebraska, who dont know much about the Univ. of Utah, doesnt mean you now have your finger on the pulse of the college football scene or what people nationwide think. Dont folks from your (red)neck of the woods still believe Obama is a Muslim, and Huckabee was Gods choice for President? Why dont you ask them how legitimate they think your 84 NC trophy was?

3.BYU is known as that Mormon school, not that NCAA football juggernaut. Utah is KNOWN for its basketball program, and, due to their 04 season, as the ORIGINAL BCS buster. Boise St. and Hawaii are ALSO KNOWN as BCS busters. BYU is not known for busting the BCS (nor are they known for breaking down any doors to enable the other 3 to do so).

4.Cougar fans are KNOWN to be ridiculous whenever they talk about college football.
