Davis District approves merit-based pay

For years, they've complained that, as professionals, Utah teachers are underpaid. Then Davis school District announces that "everyone's important." I didn't know it was a matter of "importance;" I thought it was about respecting professional teachers with more adequate compensation based on their skills and training.

In the private sector, "everyone contributes" too. But generally it's those with the most training who make the most money. In the marketplace, my English degree will never compete with my husband's engineering degree, unless I write a bestseller.

The education community will NEVER get it.

Reread the article and focus on the fact that the district is focusing on goals and improvement for the benefit of students. Be positive and quite your non-contributory complaining.

There is a difference between complaining and frustration! The media and legislature make it look like they are giving teachers more money when in actuality they are lengthening their days for pennies on the dollar. This type of BIG IDEA problem solving has gone on for years, money is wasted and then the idea dissolves. Put teachers on a panel if you want real answers to what they need and want. At some point it is no longer just about the students. Teachers have to make a living too they have gone years and years without a cost of living raise...go figure. Why not just give the money that is obviously there to teacher salaries and attract more to the profession. There is a teacher shortage for a reason and these types of so called solutions just add to teacher frustraion...thats right frustration!!
