What a tragic story! It shows that the gang problem has been with us for a long time. How sad that 15 years later, little has changed in the Salt Lake valley. Thank you for telling this family's heartbreaking story.

I sit here with silent tears streaming down my face and all I can do is think of Dee and Mary Theresa, and how sorry I am for their loss.

15 years is just not enough time to serve for violent assault and cold blooded murder.

This man should remain behind bars for the rest of his life...for the safety and well being of a law abiding society.

I had forgotten about Asi Mohi.

Thinking about it now, I remember all the stories about how Asi was a good kid, how he wanted play football, how he just fell in with a bad element and got carried away.

Sounds very familiar to what I'm hearing about these new gangbangers.

As sad as this is, everything does happen in it's own true time. that seems cold but it is not really. My son committed sucide 6 years ago. I have wondered about what could have been or we could have done differently. That doesn't change anything. I also think of the sacrifice of those who started MADD after her child's death by a drunk driver. Community action and help from others are required. we cannot expect it to drop from heaven. We have to work together in our communities, the law and all. It's not free and it's not with someone else money or time - it's ours. People who do this are hurting, angry and looking for what they don't have and have no clue how to get it. We can't save them all but we can work to improve conditions. Help to monitor drug corner activities, give our police a hand up, after school and summer programs keeping those most likely to get in these groups busy and working on self esteem issues. Getting out there isn't always the safest but how safe were our loved ones when little and nothing was done?

We are hearing the same old bromides and rationalizations. It suggests to me that nothing will be done. The Hispanic organizations seem to play a stone walling game.Responsiblity is deflected on to the syatem and the hapless Anglo community which is not able ,or will bot, assert the legitimate legal power to take this condition on.The Gangs know it and they reat with contempt and disregard for the Law,Community, and the hapless legitmate Authority
This all started with Minority Gangs. It spread to the Caucasian community as a vigilante movement brought about by the refuasl of the system to act against the Minority gangs.
The people who created a fairly safe and secure area are all gone.
we have heard the same song and dance for 25 years!
