Awesome! Thanks for writing this story. There should be more articles on ultramarathons. We have some great ones in this state -- the Wasatch 100, Squaw Peak 50, the Bear 100, and others -- and the athletes who train and work so hard to do them are inspiring.

Good work. You've really accomplished something. I am in awe of what her body can do.

I am a Death Valley enthusiast, spend a lot of time there (just got back last week from another trip), and would still never in a million years think of punishing myself this way. I wish my local press would give more space to interesting events like this, especially since we had several local residents participating, but their priorities are elsewhere.

FYI, the fastest finisher this year averaged 10 minutes per mile, in 115-120 degree heat, from elevations of 282' below sea level to about 8500' above, for over 23 hours. Runners can have water, other beverages, or ice, but no high-tech cooling devices are allowed. The idea is to test human endurance in natural conditions, so they aren't allowed to alter the environment with cooling vests and such.

Congrats to all the finishers. Now relax and enjoy the gallon of ice cream you've earned!
