How dare they

I don't think it's too much to ask that the Zoo come up with 20mm before they ask all of us to chip in 65mm. If it will take 10 years to raise the money, then it should be 10 years before all of us have to come up with the money. The Zoo has had a lot of improvements latley; just like the rest of us, you can't have everything you want right now. Sometimes we all have to make due with what we have.

I love the Zoo, but there are a lot of public funded programs out there. With the lagging economy, we all can't afford more taxes to give the animals a higher standard of living. The animals will have to wait until after my family is taken care of.

Sounds like dirty politics to me, Zoo gets thousands of visitors a week and gets the shaft, Aviary gets a thousands of visitors a year and gets the money. Sounds like the r's have a beef with the zoo.

Kudos to the county council for putting the brakes on raising more taxes. When people are having so much trouble making ends meet now with the higher cost of gas and food, its nice to know that there are SOME Republicans in the state that stay true to conservative ideals not to raise taxes! Thanks for this vote county council.

Greg--interesting conspiracy theory. I doubt there's much merit to it, but it's interesting.

This was a great decision by the county council (or at least, by the Republicans on the county council). It could also be setting a good precedent for organizations coming to government for money. Why not ask groups to raise their private funds in short order whenever they ask for public funding? It's not a good idea to encourage dependence on public funding, and the county council's decision is a step in the right direction.
