A win this weekend would put us in first place for at least a week! WOOOOOT!

Stick it to them Kreis!

nice "suspension" the league has- the coach can be in the locker room before and after the game and during halftime, watches the game from the press box, and is in constant radio contact with the bench so he can still make the substitution and tactical changes, probably from a better vantage point than on the field.
That's pretty weak, but i guess we'll take it so Kreis can keep this thing turning around.

Maybe the Front Office should use this as a gimmick and have a contest to "sit with Coach K" in the stands during the Columbus game. Or how about all the fan clubs take up collections to pay his fines? I think right now with our finishing of late, I would rather Coach K but his cleats on and put himself in the game up top with Deuchar. I guess it is true, he is still just as intense as a coach as he was a player.

I thought this team moved to barstow Ca. Didnt know they were still here. The respect they get is shown in having their story run after a am. golf tourny story.

go away already soccer....
Re: RSL | 10:34 a.m. July 11, 2008
Just a quick question for you: Why do you hate soccer so much? seriously I hate baseball I think its dull and boring but I am not going to go on a bees article and post about how much I hate it and want it to "go away already." I think if people like it and they have an opportunity to watch it then great good for them! So why all this built up bitterness to the worlds most popular sport? Is it because when you were little you were pick last or not at all for the soccer team? And ps this is the second posting on this story.. they ran one before in yesterday afternoon! Nice try HATER!

"New England coach Steve Nicol has been fined three times, but never suspended."
So, when a large market team like New England complains there are no consequences? There is obviously no favoritism in this league, is there? The refs NEVER favor the larger market team, never ever.
Re: Re: RSL | 11:10 a.m. July 11, 2008
I don't like soccer but I agree with you. There is too much criticism on these boards if a writer mispells a word or by byu fans putting down utah fans or the other way around. People should post if theyare interested in the subject and have something to say instead of showing how ignorant they are. For all of you who like soccer......good on you....for your sakes I hope it stays....personnally I like baseball so if you can't say anyting good about it......well keep it to yourself...and I will do the same with soccer.

Re: Re: RSL
what is this? Somenoe who hates soccer but doesnt bash it cuz they see it as childish as it really is!? Has hell frozen over? Totally joking, it is good to see that some people can keep their opinions to themselves and not feel they need to push their beliefs onto someone else. Thanks for the breath of fresh air man, humanity might have a chance

If MLS thinks its unfair for coaches to critize the refs because of forum, allow the refs to have a post-match press conference as well and they can talk about how great every call they made was spot on.

What a stupid system.
Steve Nicol | 12:55 p.m. July 11, 2008
During the recent game against the New England Revolution there was an interview with Steve Nicol during the progress of the game before halftime and all he had to say was direct criticism towards the officiating crew. In fact Steve Nicol is the biggest cry baby in the league when it comes to the poor officiating in the MLS and the fact he has never been suspended...what a load of crap. I think there is something that needs to be said about the hypocrisy here by both the RSL front of office and the MLS front office, even if it results in more fines and suspensions it's worth it to point out how inconsistent not only the refs are but the front offices of the MLS. Keep doing a good job Kries and not being scared to state the truth when it needs to be stated.

Am i the only one who thinks this sounds like Jerry Sloan (Kreis) and Phil Jackson (Nicol) all over again?
MLS Officiating | 3:14 p.m. July 11, 2008
At least officiating around the world seems to be more consistent. MLS officials are so terrible, its a joke to watch MLS games because of the officials. I love to go and watch the games, I'm a season ticket holder but it seems like every week the officials change the game to there liking and create whatever outcome the want. The MLS will never become a great league in the world because of the officiating. The skill level and players have improved since the conception of the league but the officials have seem to become worse!

where's the consistency?

Generally speaking refs don't like utah in any sport. You can't say that it's real's small market because they have a pretty huge fan base, and they've signed a lot of "big" names. Kreis is one of them. But what it boils down to is Real needs better finishing. They control the tempo and the game more than the referees do and complaining about officiating is just going to make it worse.
kjames196 | 6:20 p.m. July 11, 2008
Officiating ain't easy, but it is facilitated by a general level of respect. Officials are assessed every game, so they know when they've screwed up, and if they do it very much, they don't get more games. Officials can make a few hundred calls (or noncalls) during the game, and get every one right, but blow one significant call, and they've "ruined the game." Kreis was a great player, and seems to be a good coach, but he needs to keep his intensity on things he can control. Focusing on referee errors will only distract his players from their task. The game is better off if coaches refrain from commenting on the performance of officials publicly, because it leads to a general level of disrespect on the part of the players that leads to more fouling and whining. Just play the game.

Agree totally with kjames. Could not say it better. Throughout my athletic career I never held much respect for a coach who blamed officials for my poor showing. I always wanted a coach who could teach me how to perfect my skills and train me to overcome obstacles. Kreis does not seem to know how to improve his team so he diverts attention by attacking the officials. As a Crew fan, I am proud to say that Sigi Schmidt seems to be cut from a finer cloth.

How can you say that Kreis does not know how to improve the team when they are now at the top of the Western division? Although the result would likely have been the same either way, the officiating at that game was horrible! I was there. It was frustrating to watch from my seat and I imagine that it was even more frustrating from the bench! Kreis simply said what many of us fans were thinking! Perhaps he will learn more tact as he grows as a coach, but I enjoy his passion and excitement! It seems odd that it is okay to discuss the pros and cons of the performance of a player or coach, but is taboo to discuss the performance of a ref.
