From a UVU student-Who Cares? They might as well still be independent. They at going to play against the same horrible teams they have been for the last few years. Nobody cares if you win 20+ games against NJIT and the Dakotas. It is painful to watch. They need to drop down a classification and play against Dixie and BYU-H. At least then people would care. They will NEVER make the NCAA Tourney playing against those teams. Hunsaker needs to go!!
Getting into a conference is a huge deal for Utah Valley. In time the conference could get an automatic bid. But, playing for a conference title is a big deal.
For those who want to see football at Utah Valley, this is great news. It makes setting up a football team easy.
Jim - you need to start thinking with your big boy brain. Is this the best conference out there? Of course not, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.
Why on earth you think that staying independent, where you'd never be able to play for a conference championship and an automatic bid to events such as, say, the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament, would be a good idea is beyond reason. As would be the notion to take a step down to the level of Dixie and BYU-H after going through all the effort of successfully transitioning to D-1.
This is a good step in the right direction, and I wouldn't be surprised to see UVU in a completely different conference within the next 5 years or so.
Oh, and for the record, Hunsaker is the man - hopefully we can keep him around for the next few years.
