The Luterans broke off from the catholic Church and I don't hear them screaming to be called Fundamentilist Catholics. These FLDS people need to chill
Just make Polygamy legal already. At least then these people will not have to hide. And maybe it can be monitored better so 13 year old girls are not being married off.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with adult women deciding to enter a polygamist marriage. They are all consenting adults and most of the groups DO NOT dress in old fashion outfits and marry off teenagers. They are at Costco and the Mall and look just like the rest of us Mormons.
The only thing that baffles me is.. Why is the Mormon church pushing to have marriage defined and ONE man and ONE woman, when they believe in polygamy?? Maybe someone can enlighten me because I am honestly curious.
The LDS "mormons" want their cake and eat it too. They are cowards when it comes to practicing civil disobience. They capitulated (in 1890) when it came down to loosing monetary wealth as opposed to loosing spiritual wealth (exaltation in the celestial kingdom).
Want cake and eat it too is woefully misinformed. The church stopped the practice when it would be denied access to the temple, which is the gateway to spiritual wealth.
It appears the author, along with "just make it legal" are ardent followers of Mr. Jeffs and believe too much of what he has been feeding them.

EXTEND THE SOLUTION
FOR EXAMPLE AS THERE ARE FUNDAMENTALIST CATHOLIC CHURCHES THAT CALL THEMSELVES
"THE TRADITIONALIST CATHOLIC CHURCHES"
MANY OR MOST OF THE FUNDAMENTALIST MORMON CHURCHES SHOULD CALL THEMSELVES
THE "TRADITIONALIST MORMON CHURCHES/."

The LDS church does whatever will make them popular with the majority. The FLDS chooses to do what they believe is right ever if they are called "Ugly, brain-washed, hot, stinky, uppity, and a host of other things trown out by JEALOUS and hateful people. If you said that about a LDS member they would go uh, well I just had a bad day and change the next. "THAT doesn't apply anymore." God will forgive you for ANYTHING if you say you are sorry.
Uh, lost in DC, that is quite backwards, the church was not denied access to the temple. Those trying to keep all of Gods laws were. God did not reveal that polygamy be done away with, whatever you may think, if you investigate you will find this to be true. So how does this give those in the church spiritual wealth when they are denying Gods laws? "Mr. Jeffs" is a very disturbed man, and I can think and read for myself, for you I cannot say as much.
unfortunately, amberrose, the FLDS may believe they are doing right, but they are actually stealing children's futures by isolating, repressing, and over-sermonizing them to the point of removing all choice and freedom.
sucks to be the bad guy, huh.
It is really hard (for the chosen males) to treat, much less value all their offspring fairly, when so many are produced.
To anonymous: Since you signed as anonymous you know you are up in the night. It is a historical fact that the government was going to take away all church owned property which inclueded temples, chapples etc. The temples are so important that, that is the only place where certin ordineces can take place such as marrage for time and all eternity. And there was a revelation, that was published publicly. For you FLDS you chose to ignore that in the 1930's. and for :just make it leagal: No we don't believe in practicing polygamy, we know we once were but that obligation was taken from us just as we were once required to live the law of consacration now we are requiered to live the law of tithing. It would be nice if people only made comments on what they really know not what they think they know or heard.
I can think of several very good reasons the fundamentalists should not be called Mormons - they do not believe in the current Prophet or any Prophet since Brigham Young - which breaks their line of authority to the Priesthood and their line of connection to the church. Also, since the Church is a church of modern revelation, to deny the revelation to repudiate polygamy is to defy the teachings of the church and to defy the teachings of the church in that way makes you not a Mormon in my book.
