Deron qualifies for just slightly more than Chris Paul since he was drafted just slightly higher. Chris Paul chose not to take a full 5 years, so his portion of the full allotment is in proportion to the formula allowed.

He Doesn't. Chris Paul agreed to a shorter deal thus paying him less over the term of the contract. D-Will could do the same if that is how he chooses to negioate.

Why does everyone think D-Spill is better than CP3, the best point guard in the league. Who had a better assists/game average and who made 1st Team All NBA, who made it farther in the play offs (Paul took the Spurs to 7 games in 2nd round and should have won, Williams and Jazz got embarrassed in 6 games against the Lakers)? Chris Paul is the answer to everyone of these questions.

All you hear from these star players in the NBA is how bad they want a RING. Well without other good players on your team is is impossible, and if the top players take the majority of a teams payroll, how are they going to keep the other players that are necessary to compete for a championship? We will see very shortly were D-Wills priorities are. This team cannot pay Booz, A.K. and D-will max contracts and still keep the others we need to compete. We will be watching what you do D-will. After all- when is enough--enough? These salaries that are being paid are nothing short of ridiculous. Nothing more than a kids game played by adults.

I feel like I owe you money for such a laugh. By your own standing D-Will is indeed better than CP3... cuz he has taken the Jazz franchise 3 times farther than Paul has taken the Hornets! 3 times farther! Also what is the record for head to head match ups? Oh that's right not only has D-Will come out on top with the "W" in, I believe, 7 of the 9 games played but he had better stats in all of those wins as well.

so youre saying that chris paul is better than d-will because they lost to the spurs in 7? it took lakers 6 games to get by the jazz but it only took them 5 to get by the spurs. So if your theory is correct than the jazz are better than spurs who beat the hornets. or more precisely Deron Williams is better than Tony Parker who is better than Chris Paul.
Obviously you can see how this logic is flawed, because tony Parker is not better than Chris Paul. So to see who is better look at their head to head stats and see how D-will works chris paul every time they play eachother.

Secondly, How many assists a game does CP3 get on talentless chucks at the basket where Tyson Chandler makes him look good. Without above the rim players like Chandler CP3 wouldn't have nearly as many assists.
Thirdly, D-WIll is a better shooter and finisher. CP3 is a better ball handler and better at getting to the hoop but D-WIll is a better finisher.
D-Will is a better post player, 3-point shooter, finisher, and leader. D-Will is far better in crunch time than CP3. Don't believe me watch him lead Illinois against Arizona. Down 12 with 4 minutes left and D-Will leads them back for the W. Which anyone who has watched a Jazz game in the past two years has seen him do time and again. D-Will is far better at crunch time.

I think one reason Paul is considered better then Williams is that Paul has better statistics. However when you look at those stats a little closer, you can see a clearer picture.

Rebounds: Paul 4.0 Williams 3.0
New Orleans has two excellent rebounders in Chandler and West, but after those two, the rest of the Hornets don't do much rebounding. Compare this to the Jazz, with Booz, Okur, AK, and Millsap, it's hard to imagine anyone else on the team getting a rebound.
You also should look at how many shots are taken in typical Jazz and Hornets games. Hornet games have about 163 shots, Jazz games have about 157. If there were six more shots per game, it's not out of the question that Williams' rebound total would be higher.

Assists: Paul 11.6 Williams 10.5
The Hornets rely heavily on alley-oops to score points. Alley-oops are pretty easy assists. The Jazz are a passing team where players often pass up the first shot to set up a teammate with an easier shot. Williams' potential assists are eaten up by this mentality.

Looking deeper at stats helps narrow the gap between these two great players.

CP3s a better face up defender w/his speed and quick hands. If there is a weak cog in D-Wills game it is that he plays too much D with his body and not his feet and smart hands. And to everyone trying to make CP3 sound so noble for "taking less money to help the team" ummmm.... he didn't. He just took a shorter term. Doesn't actually effect the teams yearly payroll enough to "help" in anyway. All it does is give Paul the same money he would make the first 3 years of a five year deal and also lets him leave town if the Hornets never make it out of the second round... which they haven't. This is like Gilbert Arenas being such a noble guy for allowing the Wiz to spend an extra 3 million per season to bring in someone who can help. You know what 3 million per season gets you? Jason a.k.a. "The Difference Maker" Hart. Both are great players and are better off where they are. So anyone who wants to run their mouths should look up the facts first. I do have to give CP3 for Prez some street cred for his mad bash on D-Will with the heartbreaker "D-Spill" line! Hahahahahaha! Not since grade school has a better name toying been had. See its clever because his nickname isn't actually "D-Spill" it's "D-Will". Get it? It sounds like "D-Will" but its different. Thats what makes it so great. Like the classic "Air Spordan" and "The Not-ctor Julius Erving" or how about the beloved dis on Kobe Bryant... "K.B.twenty-door". See they are all full of greatness and pure unadulterated wit because with just one or two changes these gladiators names were changed from fear inspiring call signs to funny, un-inspired slaps to the bottom side. The grand question is will D-Will be able to handle such a crippling blow to the ego or with he "D-Spill" his cookies? I guess we'll all just have to wait.

Take a closer look 9:02 is right. D-Will, given the opportunity to play in a wide-open offense like the Hornets, would have significantly higher stats across the board. Also because NO is a more exciting team to watch offensively, many pundits erroneously believe that CP3 is a better player.

Although I don't have any stats to back it up, I believe that D-Will is also a better defensive player.

Given the opportunity to pick between the two today, I still choose D-Will although I wouldn't cry about having CP3.

CP3 is a great player. But great players don't play like CP3 does against D-Will.. He chokes. Look at the stats.. In the 4 games last year, CP3 only looked good on one. D-Will owned him in the other three games. Give me a break. If you honestly think that CP3 is a better player, than you also believe that the lakers should have one the championship. It is always nice to believe in a team or a person, but to make the comments that you have made are just blubber... Get a life. The Jazz rule and Booz and D-Will along with the rest of the kick butt JAZZ will make you eat your words.

I think you are all missing the point. It's Dwill for Pres. because this is Jazz country. and as a Jazz fan I will tell all of you "whats so great about Deron Williams, CP3 is better" losers to take your CP3 stick it where the sun don't shine (shouldn't be to hard given his diminutive stature).

If this where the New Orleans Times-Picayune then CP3 would be presisdent but around here DWill is the man, and I wouldn't trade him for ANYBODY.

I don't see how any TRUE JAZZ FAN could honestly say "I would rather have CP3 than DWill." That's like a Lakers fan in the early 80's saying I would rather have Bird than Magic, it's preposterous.

Steals per game means nothing. If you are swiping with your hands it means you are taking a risk. You may get a steal once in a while but you also get out of poition and your defender beats you ALOT!. D-Will is better defensively, offensively and as a leader. 5 years from now D-will will have a championship or two and Paul will not be an Baron Davis part II. Injured and over hyped.

Dwill already has a house in Utah and lives here year round. Second, Paul didn't take less money! Why do any of you think that? He took fewer years not less money. He took a shorter contract still at max money, this just leaves him a way out to go to another team. If Dwill takes the 5 year contract then we will know that he really wants to be here!

YOU said Paul will NOT be an Baron Davis part 11 so that means CP3 will have championships, and D-Spill will be just like Stockton, a good point guard who could never win the big one. Face it the Jazz won't win the championship with their current roster. Boozer can defend, AK is a wuss and Okur plays too much on the perimeter. Paul has the interior presence with Tyson Chandler, who can guard Duncan, unlike Boozer and Okur, and David West, who is an Amare Stoudamire who can play defense, plus they have amazing shooters in Peja, Mo P, Pargo, and Bonzi Wells. The Hornets have more of a championship roster than the Jazz.

Both are great point guards, no question. When going strictly off of stats they put other great named point guards to shame. However, SportCenter taught us that games aren't played on paper (they're played inside little television screens). If I had only this year to win a championship, I take Tony Parker. Until you have a ring all your stats just add up to a season ending loss. Until one of them gets through a championship, Tony Parker's career eclipses them both.

Most of you think the sun rise and sets in D-Will, and I agree with all of you except one area--his defense is terrible. Just watch the game and follow the play off the ball and those of you that really know basketball will agree. He does make up for his lack of defense with every thing else he does positive. Quite frankly we really don't have hardly any lock down defenders on the whole team. Saying that I'm also quite skeptical of Sloans defensive schemes. They just don't work. Watch Boston(you to Sloan) and see how defense is supposed to be played.

He's a nice player, but you certainly wouldn't build an entire team around him. Without Tim Duncan, they would have never won a single title. That's like saying Scottie Pippen was one of the greatest forwards because he won 6 titles, but then you realize he played with Michael Jordan, the greatest ever.

As far as point guards go, what does it matter who was who or what at the end of this last season....the point guard with the ring is the winner in the end. D-Will can play, no guessing there and he will be around for some time to come maybe even when CP3 and whomever are gone.
I would hope D-Will would carefully think about what it will take to remain in Salt Lake City WITH the team he has.

Anyone saying that the Hornets have a better roster than the Jazz are outside their minds! Trying to say that they have better 3 point shooters is a joke! DWill is better at the 3 than Paul. Korver is better at the 3 than Peja, Mo P, or Pargo. And Bonzi Wells can't shoot 3s for crap! Peja used to be a baller. Now hes old and European! Which is a bad combination in the NBA. AK is a better defender than any guard or forward N.O. has. David West I will admit is a great player on defense and offense. Chandler is a great defender but the only baskets he can make are the ones Paul leaves for him at the rim. The Jazz have a far better bench in Milsap, Harpring, Price, Almond and Fesenko. Who do the Hornets have coming off the bench? Now if they sign Posey get back to me. And the only reason Paul is considered MVP over D-Will is because CP3 took a joke of a team in the Hornets into a great team. The Jazz have always been a respectable team. Same reason Sloan has never gotten COTY

the jazz need RAJA BELL more than anyone else....he brings tuffness to the team which is much needed.the only tuff player on the team is Matt, but he's too clean.RAJA will keep the other teams players in check & stop the hard fouls the Jazz players take too often.RAJA is a better version of bruce bowen who plays tuff 'D' on the great shooting guards in the league.....the Jazz have nobody on this squad to guard the # 2's of the league.... Chris Paul travels regularly. Yes I know there is some traveling in the NBA but watch CP3--he does it almost every time he runs the high pick and roll to go down the lane. That extra step allows him to create and/or get his shot off. Without it he would be another short player unable to make a play. If he was routinely not allowed to cheat (much more than other PG's) by traveling, his scoring/assist stats would be dramatically less.

I also recently read an article on ESPN about how many completely bogus assists CP3 gets added to his totals. He passes to David West and West dribbles/makes 3 different moves and then finally shoots and they are giving Paul assists on that. Once accounting had 3 verified/undisputed bogus assists in just one game!! His assist totals are so padded it is ridiculous AND he still barely is ahead of Deron. Due to the way our offense runs D-Wills assist stats are pretty clear cut.

CP3 is a very talented player obviously but he makes many of his "spectacular" plays by traveling and gets extra assist stats because he has been annointed by the NBA as the assist man.
