Anyone who knows a thing or two about football can tell you that 7 on 7 is beneficiary. Alta can say it doesn't matter because Mountain View, including myself, came down from Mesa, Arizona with 11 guys and beat a team with 40, Alta. All the players benefit from coverages to routes to reads to playmaking abilities. Obviously someone is a little bitter Alta lost. 7 on 7 can prove alot about how a team will compete during a season and anyone who says otherwise has never played the sport before or is inept at the game.

It kills me to say it 'cause Mesa Moutain View is a rival but you BYU football fans need to appreciate the talent that comes from the Mesa Moutain View program. It's a solid program. Just ask Beck and Hall. Alta just needs to learn to deal with the loss.

7on7 is good for the QB, receivers and defensive coverage personel. However, you could do just as well to have these at the local high schools. Let the High Schools make the money instead of the college coaches. I'm sure the high school coaches could sure use the extra cash! Last time I checked these poor guys aren't making a killing as coaches of the respective HS's here in Utah. And kids aren't recuited at these shows anyway. College camps are pretty much the same too. They are there for the MONEY. Most kids are recuited because of excelling in real game situations. A fast 40 time or a great vertical leap are of no use it a kid can't take a hit! SPARQ scores are useless if a kid has no feel for the game. There are alot of guys who excell in 7on7 because they don't get hit. It helps timing but doesn't prep[are a kid to take a pop over the middle. I've seen greatness in 7on7 turn to mush in real football action. Use 7on7 for what it is, but don't expect it to trasnslate into great football in the fall.

wrong... camps are huge opportunities for kids to get recruited by coaches, as are 7 vs 7 tournaments (see the Northridge safety who was offered after BYU's 7 vs 7).

some colleges won't even offer you without seeing you live and in person.

Yes for some 7 on 7 can be an opportunity but I get a good laugh watching these teams but passing teams together who might pass once or twice a game. But the kids enjoy them and they payed the fee so who cares either way........the kids enjoyed it. Which is what matters.

7 on 7 doesnt matter because half the time teams wont do the stuff they do in 7 on 7. Like Alta for example had there running back passing blocking on the play and when time as about to run out and the QB had no open receivers down field he would toss it to the running back who was blocking where the linemen would be. Besides that Mountain Crest, Davis, and Spainish Fork all had players that played amazing at 7 on 7 competitions and hardly see any playing time in the fall.

High school guy is NOT wrong! Any one with half a brain will know that coaches worth any thing would never take a kid from a 7on7 passing tourney. As for the kid from northridge, He was seen play live by the BYU coaches long before the 7on7 show. Don't comment when you have no clue. I'll agree that some kids can be recuited at camps, but they are only hitting camps. I know of what I speak. I was an assistant coach at several D1 schools for nearly 30 years and we never recuited a kid from a non-contact camp unless we had already seen him play! Get a clue. Any coach who would take a kid from a non contact camp or a 7on7 tourney is asking for trouble! Period, end of discussion!

I agree with 7 on 7 doesnt matter: 7-on-7 is just glorified route running practice for WRs. It may help a young QB with reads a little bit and help defenses memorize play calls, but they can do that by just playing pick-up ball with teammates.

why didn't washington get the offer until AFTER they saw him at Junior Day and the 7 vs 7... Yes it does matter. Of course, they need to see some game film, but they also usually need to see them in person as well.

I know for a fact of the importance of camps/combines/7vs7 to build on your GAME FILM in order to get the most exposure possible. I know this because my son has MULTIPLE Division 1 offer (many of them offered while at a CAMP, so I've been going through this process recently and i'm not some old retired PE coach who was an assistant coach at Southern Utah or WEber state

I know for a fact that these camps will help is a variety of ways. I love the competitive nature that these bring out in kids. You can tell how a good an athlete is just by watching him run, and move. I know that a running back from Northridge committed while he was at BYU's 7 on 7, and Chris Washington from NOrthridge was offered at the camp. I know that Richard Wilson from Spanish told me he would end up playing at BYU. I know that BYU offered two players from PG, Owens (jr.) and Wilcox (Sr.) to come and play. You know athletes when you see them. It is that simple. BYU is the most organized camp by far, Then Utah a close second. Weber and Utah St. arent even close. SUU's used to be really good. Midnight Madness in Granstville was one of the better ones also.

Dewey here. Try, Texas under Daryl Royal for 6 years and most recently, under Our good friend Bobby Bowden. I have 4 national championshipo rings. How many do you have. Probably hoping your son will get one for you!
Don't get me wrong, camps are good to find athletes but you don't find players until you see them in game situations. Trust me I know. Players that are signed after a camp have been seen on film Period. And even at 70 years old Weber State or Southern Utah couldn't afford me...not even as a P.E. teacher!

7 0n 7 doesnt prove much... judge made it to the semi's in the weber state 7 on 7 and beat cwood, layton and others but with linemen judge wouldn't stand a chance

Bingham Killed Mesa Mnt View in that tournament. S what are you even talking about??? They are pretty good but they aren't Bingham or Timpview. The best thing about 7 on 7 is that the kids get to go out and compete against each other. Other ther than that it is a good tool for the coaches to see who to put where on there depth charts.

7 on 7 is not even a tool for coaches putting together depth charts. Someone can play amazing in 7 on 7 and not even play during the season. Davis had a receiver that was one of the best receivers they had and he didnt see any action during the season probably for political reasons. Other teams had the same situation. 7 on 7 doesnt mean a thing besides letting kids go have fun together as a team.

You can't say 7 on 7 "doesnt mean a thing", because it does. QB still work on reading the defense, no turn-overs, footwork, quick release. WR's still have to catch a ball and run good routes. Pass Defense still has to defend with good pass coverage. There are skills that can be fine tuned before the pads are put on, this all during a time kids need to be conditioning and getting ready for the pounding the body takes with pads on. To say 7 on 7 means nothing is being uneducated. It's up to the coaches to make it mean something. There is lots to be learned and taught during 7 on 7 season.

7 on 7's absolutely matter. Washington did get the offer from the Y based on his performance at 7 on 7 at BYU. It sealed the deal for what the coaches wanted to see out of him.
