Instead of the fire marshal saying "most injuries associated with fireworks are principally caused by misuse."

He should have said "most injuries associated with fireworks are principally caused by stupidity."

I know that when we went to the local stand to get our 'backyard' fireworks, the prices have about doubled since last year.

Proably have to give it up soon...

Even the Utah Legal fireworks are less expensive in Wyoming. With over a 900% increase in firework usage and a 93% reduction in injuries, why do we still ban fireworks? And even banning fireworks in the winter seems dumb to me! Time to Utah to update their firework laws.

P.S. And don't give me any tale bout fires. Fireworks account for very few in Utah or even in the nation. Most arecaused by lightning, cars, campfires, cigarettes, trains and brushfires.

I am fortunate to live in one of the last states that allows the average Joe to buy and light off "the good stuff". Consider yourselves lucky in a way, there's only so much money you can spend on flowers, sparklers, smoke bombs, and wistling pete's. I was looking at fireworks this morning and by the time I pick up a small pack of mortars, some roman candles, some sparklers and a grand finale box I'll be into this for nearly $200. My neighbor drops $600-$1000 dolars every year on fireworks. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome, but holy crap expensive.

I am sickened by the way that the City of Sandy has criminalized the use of "illegal" fireworks. Like the Gestapo, the Sandy Fire department patrols the streets looking for "felons" using fireworks. They say they want to save houses. Reality: Never a single house in Sandy lost to fireworks. They want to prevent grass fires? Reality: Any grass fires (and there have been few in the last 20 years) that were started by fireworks were started by LEGAL fireworks.

A $500 to $1500 fine? Just another tax.

Bottom line: Ariel (illegal) fireworks are usually discharged by responsible ADULTS (No, Mayor Dolan, we are not children, and yes, WE VOTE!). Studies support me when I say that they are inherently safer than the stuff we call legal and our children get burned playing with.

Can't we go back to enjoying true freedom in this country? If not, let's ban cigarettes, the leading cause of man made wild fires. What? afraid of losing votes? I thought so.
