Men's VB in SoCal

The story only serves to illustrate how poorly the game is managed at the national level.

USA Volleyball may be the worst governing body among all Olympic Sports, and they do so little to foster the game at the college level - kids are looking for chances to play AFTER their high school years, and if that opportunity does not present itself, those players are lost to other sports.

They have a grant proposal to help start-up programs. But almost no one outside of NCAA member schools are eligible for funding? What about high schools, JCs and the NAIA?

And what are they doing to promote the sport to the broadest demographic possible? When was the last time you saw one of our national team members in an advertisement? It's summertime, when companies are trying any measure to link themselves to a beach lifestyle, and yet the athletes who epitomize that lifestyle are nowhere to be found.

Men and boys deserve the opportunity to play at the next level. Let's hope that those who are supposed to preserve and promote the game actually do something about it.

My name is John Hutton and I am the Head men's volleyball coach at D'Youville College in Buffalo, NY.

We have a program that has been nationally ranked in Division III for 83-straight weeks. If your willing to come east, we offer a great program, a national competition schedule, and some great academic scholarship packages.

If you want to continue playing at the NCAA level contact me at huttonj@dyc.edu
