Hear ye! Hear ye! Maggette will not play in a Jazz uniform while he is a proven
commodity in his prime. The Jazz will have to make due with minimal free agency
activity since they have almost no draw (outside offering obscene money) to any
high profile players. A lucky signing of a nobody who turns out to be somebody
without loosing our own free agents (Miles, Boozer next year) is the best we can
hope for. I'd love to see him in a Jazz jersey, but there's no way
it's going to happen.

Yeah, with that pessimistic attitude that Jazz certainly won't EVER make a

I have had a gut full of all of this off-season hype about Draft, free agents
and trades. Are these Primma-Donna's really worth the kind of money that is
being thrown around? NO. You fans don't seem to realize that it is you who
are paying the full tab for this crap. Tickets, advertising from television
contracts, that reflect all consumer goods you use that are advertised, higher
cable or satelite costs, NBA and player junk clothing and toys, the list goes on
and on. Really are athletes or players worth tens of millions per year, and they
get all expenses paid too? I say it is just like the U.S. economy-
ridiculous--Nothing more than GREED. Enough is enough. I'm done.

Jimmy thinks that Boozer will move on next year. Jimmy thinks that going after
Maggette makes sense since Boozer will move on. I think that Jimmy needs to

Maggette will sign with the team who will offer him the most money. He is not
looking to join a team where he can win games--he lost that incentive over the
past several years with the Clippers. He should have demanded a trade years ago
when the Clips matched the Jazz offer, but he didn't. He was content on
staying with the lowly Clips.
The Jazz best shot is to arrange a sign-and-trade deal with LA...but who will the Clips want? I can promise you that Jason Hart will be in the deal because he is expendable.

I like Jimmy. He has insights...opinions that make sense. Boozer is going
away. I like Boozer and feel he CAN improve on defense IF he wants. That is
the real question though, isn't it? Does he want to with such a great
offensive game? He does not need to make the all-defensive team, but he does
need to learn to use his body. He is bigger than most players he faces.
Maggette needs to be looked at for the future of the franchise. Realistically speaking he can help this franchise. If the Jazz don't get him then I think we should talk Dwayne Wade into the mid-level exception to play for an opportunity for a ring in Utah. HAHAHAHA

Jazz need to get a deal with Minnesota Al Jefferson and O.J. Mayo and a future
pick for Boozer, Korver and Collins this would put the Jazz over the top to
achieve an NBA title

The last thing the Jazz need is another perimeter player unless they are
planning to trade away...breathe deeply....Brewer, Miles, Almond, Korver...they
have a glut of 2 guards...the jazz also have a glut of small fowards...Harpring,
Kirilenko...exactly where does Maggette fit in unless the Jazz are planning on
trading some of those players? The Jazz should be focusing on putting aside
money to resign Boozer and Okur after next year...or if Boozer and Okur bolt
using that money to find another POST player...not another perimeter player.
Maggette makes no sense and plus he is not a strong defender. I would take
Brewers defense over Maggette's....love Maggette's offense but do the
Jazz even need his offense?

Your deal is impossible. OJ Mayo was traded to Memphis. Why would Minnesota
want Boozer over Jefferson? Al is a better defensive player, who is taller than
Boozer. They have Mike Miller now, so that eliminates any desire for Korver.
Maybe you should think realistically.

It would'nt be like the Jazz to ship Boozer out before his contract ends
so that they can get a decient player in return, It's more likely that they
will loose him to free agency and get nothing in return ( Shandon Anderson/ Raja

The only way the jazz can consider maggette is through a sign and trade. As the
previous post stated, it makes no sense for the jazz to add another guard to a
team packed with guards.

Maybe for once the Jazz are thinking(miracle). The Jazz know they have a problem in that they only have one guy who can take over a game and create for his teammates(DWill). There is not one other person that can do it on the current roster. The Jazz are looking at getting some relief for Dwill so that he is not wore out and spent every game.(Happened every playoff game and many regular season games)
Your right we probably don't need his(Maggette) scoring and his defense is okay but Jazz do need another take over guy and he can definitely fill that roll.
Look at all the teams that went ahead of us. What do they have. They have two and most have three guys on there team who can take over a game. Billups went down and they did not miss a beat. Allen has a bad night Pierce and Garnett pick up the Slack.(Spurs Ginobli,Parker,Duncan) Dwill has a bad night or goes down we got nothing. Jazz do not necessary need Maggette but they do need another take over a game type player and he is the best out there right now.

I am done as well ("BIG DEAL"). I still have interest, so I don't
exactly what I am done with. I can't afford ball games that's for
sure. Basically I am done with having as much fun with the game. Some of that is
by choice. However, I do bond with my sons and keep my american sports fix
alive. I just keep having to "SAY NO" to action figures and everything
else (sports or not). Transformers underwear, gear, bedsheets, glasses, and toys
are the same thing. The free market is alive and well in the USA (recession or
not). BIG DEAL, I am sick of it as well. Although I won't be packing up and
moving to Haiti anytime soon.

The Timberwolves have Jefferson on contract for 6 more years at a good price. He
is a real solid young player. Trading him for Boozer makes no sense for
Minnesota. Boozer would most likely leave Minnesota after next year as an
unrestricted free agent. If by the small chance he would want to stay, the
wolves would have to pay Booz the max veteran salary adding up to $136 million.
Jefferson is the better buy for a young team trying to build, and Jefferson
might be the better player anyway.

The NBA, like any business run by intelligent people, charges what the market will bear. That is capitalism. Thus, the prices of everything it provides, including tickets, playoff tickets, luxury boxes, apparel, TV rights, etc., is controlled by you, the citizens who make up the American public. The NBA cannot charge more than you are willing to pay. This is a system that I fully support even if I'm not among those who can afford to pay as much as my neighbor.
So the question is, who should get the money -- the owners, many of whom have been subsidized by local governments, or the players -- or both. The NBA formula has been highly successful, and it ensures that the players get a percentage of the gross receipts, and the players have negotiated with the NBA on how their percentage is divided up among themselves (starters, subs, veterans, All Stars, etc.). Within those parameters the owners negotiate deals with different players.
If you think a player is overpaid, that is your opinion. It's not the opinion of the owner who pays him. It's not the opinion of the fans who pay to watch him.

The clippers cant sign and trade Maggette the forfeited his bird rights which
means they cant sign and trade him. All he can get at this point is the mid
level exception probably about 6 to 7 mil what ever the league decides. The
teams with cap room are not going to pay him the big bucks because he is not an
all star bring your team a championship type player. Hes more of a second or
third option. I still would like to see him here in Utah but as has been stated
we have a log jam in his position.

people are throwing in players who aren't involved in any trade/free agency
rumours (Jefferson). I don't think Utah needs Maggette to make it to the
next level, but they do need to get better defensively. Maybe they should focus
more on developing these young 7 footers they have.

An anecdote that might illustrate the relative worth of players.
Yesterday I received a phone call from a man who wanted to buy three items at a certain price. His price was $1,200 each. These items have an expiration date about three months from now.
The problem is that these items are worth $4,500 to $5,500 on the open market. I would be willing to buy 60 of these items at $3,000 to $3,500 each because I know that I could sell most of them for market value. And if I had any left over, I could sell them at my cost even with one or two weeks left before the expiration.
A single buyer cannot set the price of an item. If a handful of NBA fans decide ticket prices are too high for them, they cannot call up the Jazz and buy tickets for less than the general public is willing to pay. If there weren't enough citizens willing to pay the current rates for tickets, etc., then the Jazz would have two choices: Cut the prices or move to another city. If the Jazz couldn't pare its expenses, it would haver to move.

I hate to break it to you, but NBA players are worth every dime they earn. Do
you ever see empty arenas (minus Atlanta)? As long as people are willing to pay
to see these guys, they deserve every cent they earn. Who else should get the
money, the owners? If 20,000 people were willing to pay $25-$300 bucks to come
watch me work 82+ days a year, you'd better believe I'd be demanding
more than my current salary. NBA teams are still making money aren't they?
As long as that holds true, then no, NBA players are NOT making too much money.

You act like we should all be cringing at the thought of getting rid of Brewer. He is STATISTICALLY THE WORST JUMPSHOOTING STARTING "SHOOTING" GUARD IN THE NBA!!! Magette can play serviceable defense and would probably play better if he was on a contender. O ya, 22ppg is not bad either.

it would be great if the jazz could get maggette and then trade brewer and
someone else for a draft pick or something. if maggette wants to win a title,
he should see that utah is close and he could be the third piece to the big 3

We also clear Boozers big salary off the books while sustaining a contending team. We also have the Knicks first round selection in 2010....a surefire lottery pick. The Jazz look good in years to come if we pick up Maggette....we let him slip through our grasp the first time...go get him KOC!

brewer is statistically the worst shooting guard????? wtf. he ranked 2 in
steals all season till the end, but he ended up 10th. Shoots 56% from the
field. For a second year player, that's almost as good as it gets.
He's the man on defense, and he is the only jazz man with hops.
