Vive la France

The article says French President Nicolas Sarkozy spoke with Columbian President Alvaro Uribe.

Why did he need to talk to Uribe? Was he surrendering?

Colomba-phile

Ms. Betancourt is a dual Colombian-French citizen, Vive La France.

That was an unkind remark, VlF. Both Senators McCain and Obama congratulated the Colombian president for the wonderful job the national army did. And as C-p said, Ms. Betancourt is also a citizen of France.

Personally, I think it would be great if every nation's top leader were to call President Uribe and congratulate him for this. I'm glad the Colombian government is getting the upper hand on the rebels.

Don't you dare rejoice

As many law and order types like to say. It is never right to do the right thing the wrong way.

These hostages were freed, but they were released due to lies and trickery. This is wrong. It is never right to do the right thing the wrong way.

Never right to break a law, or lie or speed or do anything against the rules.

I DO dare rejoice!

Lives were saved! Your condemnation is so absurd that I can't even being to grapple with the wall of thoughtlessness behind it.

Lives were saved! Wrongs were undone! The bad guys lost! Families will be reunited! Parents have children! Good has triumphed! Horray! Huzzah! Horray! *Celebration time!!!*

So you disagree with Bob Lonsberry that it is never right to do the right thing the wrong way?

Hey Don't, you are really desperate to take the sanctimonious road. What did you expect, to have these people go knock on the door and say, could you please release the hostages? Or better yet, since you don't like the lies, you would have preferred them going in with guns and kill everyone, and maybe the hostages, cause that would be more direct and not a lie. You Don't are a joke.

With that being said, how awesome is it that these poor people who have been held for five to six years are free and back with their families, I am so happy for them and commend all of those that risked their lives for them and executed such a harmless mission, where no lives were taken.

To the courageous soul who took the label, "Don't you dare rejoice," I sat up half the night, trying to think of a statement that was more inane, absurd and specious than yours, and I simply couldn't do it.

I suppose you also think it's wrong for undercover agents to take on false persona to catch child pornographers, spouses trying to hire hit men to kill their mates, mafia murderers, and the like.

You also must oppose the good-cop-bad-cop routine, in which one cop pretends to be friendly and nice, while the other pretends to be mean in order to get information from criminals.

You also must oppose the use of spies, who pretend to be friendly to their enemies, to prevent rogue nations from acquiring nuclear weapons.

You also must oppose the use of unmarked police cars, which cops use to pretend that they are simply civilian motorists.

I'm also sure that you must be against reading novels or watching fictional movies, as many puritanical types are, because they do not portray life as it really is.

You must be opposed to letting an undercover agent deliver a ransom, such as in the case of a hijacked airliner.
