So did Obama violate Utah's election law by trying to entice Hillary out of the Presidential race? Sounds like a case of bribery to me.
Nan | 12:39 a.m. June 29, 2008
Obama is nothing than a fraud and liar. Please realize this before it is to late. McCain is not much better than Obama but I feel he is at least trustworthy and is experienced in life where Obama is not. So before you go into that voting booth please make sure you are willing to accept whatever happens if Obama gets elected. Mitt Romney in 2012
tim whatley | 3:25 a.m. June 29, 2008
hey Nan, keep voting for republicans and see where it takes us.
how bad do things need to get before you wake up and make a change.
Obama can change things and you're afraid of it. i wish we could send Bush down the road tomorrow. Obama take over and let's get going!

Nan, do you think Mitt Romney isn't a liar and a fraud? He's the worst of the bunch. Don't let his religion fool your judgement of who should be giving the government leadership. None of the front running candidates offer leadership, only CEO and illegal alien representation. We need american representation and leadership that Ron Paul is offering but being black balled by the new media because he won't conform to the whims of corporate america and its CEO's. We need a leader wanting to change america for america and not the world governments and illegal foreign nationals forcing their way across our borders. America needs a major upset of 'how things are done' in government to make america strong and united again. We have enough corporate representation in government, now we need people and country representation with Ron Paul. Obama, McCain, and Romney are not interested in saving the american people or our economic status with a strong government leader, they want to keep corporate america in charge of government. These youthful hopefuls should start doing some research and reading to realize the power they have in the destiny of this country. Forget new media hype and fraudlent speeches.

The only "change" being proposed by Obama and his followers is a change back to the already tried-and-failed polices of the 60's and earlier.

Programs of group (race, sex, etc.) preferences that institutionalize bigotry rather than reduce it. Socialistic redistributions that reduce productivity and general welfare rather than increase it. Restrict rather than promote freedoms of thought and speech beneath a camoflauge of group-think self-righteous indignation.

The problems we are facing will ALL be made worse by electing someone who believes in the policies and Supreme Court nominees that Obama's voting record (forget what he is saying) indicates he will promote.

GK from England | 7:37 a.m. June 29, 2008
To Tim Whatley and other naive democrat voters. You want change? If Obama gets into power (and he won't once most Americans realise he has nothing tangible to offer America except words and charm)then any change will DEFINITELY BE FOR THE WORST. The USA is a great country that has the courage to stand against tyrants around the world. Obama will appease these tyrants and lower what little standards he has. What power and influence America has will quickly dissipate under Obama because he is a weak leader with a pathetic past. Democrats generally have no interset in America and it's hard working citizens. DON'T GIVE OBAMA AN INCH or he'll take a mile and abuse it!!!
Ivin | 7:40 a.m. June 29, 2008
Didn't Lenin promise the Russians "change." They sure got change, didn't they, about a century's worth. We need less government and individual citizens to be more responsible, that's the "change" we need. Yes, we can, as Comrade Obama states, but I don't need some government official poking his nose in my business more often than not. America, if you put this guy in office, you deserve the consequences, too bad you'll pull the bricks on my head along with you.
RON PAUL | 8:11 a.m. June 29, 2008
Ron Paul all the way, Obama will lead us to poorer days.

America's youth attend public schools where they are taught liberal philosophy - radical environmentalism. They are taught to "get involved" politically. 82% of teachers vote Democratic! Most Utah teachers are Republican, but too many vote for Democrat policies. They should realize how much better their lives would be teaching in private schools, where those that can afford It should be attending their children.

The curriculum teaches that there will be catastrophe if they dont do something about it and that big government is the solution, and that there are too many people on the earth and that we need to give our money to other countries for "sustainability" because we're all "world citizens" now.

Combine that with the liberal media (e.g. Wall-e a very cute kid/adult animation, but sickeningly green), and it's no wonder so many regard Obama as the IT man.

Oil drillers say it would take 6 months to begin drilling domestically again. It will take 10 years because Democrat environmental policies are holding us hostage. Dems want high oil prices (a la Wexxler) so that we will get rid of our oil "addiction" and go back to riding bicycles.

DNC can penalize Utah | 8:11 a.m. June 29, 2008
Inquiring Mind,

Federal law applies to presidential races and any state law that contradicts or contravenes federal election law or the Constitution is irrelevant in the presidential race.

Second, Democratic Party operations on the national level is a private affair. The Democratic Party is a private organization and its operations are of no concern to the states and how it chooses a nominee is in accordance with its rules, bylaws and charter and any state that passes a law that contradicts or otherwise contravenes that charter can be penalized by the party as with Florida and Michigan.

Third, Obama isn't a Utah citizen and wasn't in the state of Utah at the time that he asked Clinton to cease her bid for the party nomination. This means Illinois and U.S. law governs and that unless he or Illinois grants Utah subject matter or personal jurisdiction that this state has no jurisidiction in the matter.

Finally, the DNC Headquarters isn't located in the state of Utah and this state has no jurisdiction over the DNC. If the State Party Chair or other officers violated Utah law and party rules they have two choices. Obey party rules or be punished.
re: Tim "What"ley | 8:20 a.m. June 29, 2008
Name one accomplishment that Obama has done. You can't do it. China is drilling our oil off the coast of Florida but Obama say's "No" to drilling that same oil. It's our oil but we are letting China drain it all. It was a democrat "Bill Clinton" who had Osama Bin Laden but let him go. It was also a democrat who ignored the genocide in Rwanda. It was a democrat "Jimmy Carter" who let our Americans be held hostage for so long, once the threat of a Republican taking office the Iranians let the people go. Historically, the democrat will mess things up and the republican has to straighten it out therefor the republican looks like the bad guy thanks to the democrat before him. Prove me wrong.

What a load of garbage! Change, Ha Ha! I am so sick of politicians calling for change and then doing nothing. It's just like changing a babies diaper, the new is clean at first but ends up being filled with the same stuff. I don't care what party the current president is a members of or what party the hopeful candidate is a member of it makes no difference. Supporters of Obama will argue that he is nothing like Bush in his views, and that's probably true, but we will just be trading one set of problems for another regardless of who is elected.
Anonymous | 8:55 a.m. June 29, 2008
Socialism is not the type of change we need in Washington. There is a reason that most of the European countries that attempted Socialism are moving back towards Capitalism.

H. will set America back.
JenM | 9:58 a.m. June 29, 2008
When will people start to realize that the president cannot and will not change anything, unless the masses start to make changes for the better themselves. If our country fails, it will be because the people in it have failed. We need to each make the changes in our hearts and lives that are necessary to improving our neighborhoods, cities, states, country, and ultimately the world. I love the quote by Ghandi where he says, "Be the change you wish to see in the world." We need to start taking responsibility for the problems we face and actively solve them together.

only problem with change is obama has a congress held by his fellow demo's. look at all the changes congress has made higher fuel costs, which has effected everything. my biggest fear is the comments he has about our 401k funds.
Anonymous | 10:12 a.m. June 29, 2008
Obama and McCain have very different views on important topics: Iraq, energy and health care leap immediately to mind. Why don't we all just vote for the person we agree with on policy, without resorting to labels and name-calling?
To Tim Whately | 10:15 a.m. June 29, 2008

"Keep voting for Republican and see where that takes us."

Umm. Ever heard of Jimmy Carter? Bill Clinton?

Ever heard of gas lines, shortages? Double digit interest rates?

Who's had control of congress the last few years? Is it any better?

You think nO-Bama is going to bring change?? It's the SAME OLD THING!!! Class warfare, raise taxes, open borders, try terrorists in courts instead of on the battlefield. Wealth redistribution, abortion, no drilling, no SOLUTIONS.

Please. Give me a CONSERVATIVE congress and presidency anytime.

Drill here. Drill now. Pay less.

It is good this morning! The sun is shining, the rain has stopped, and the wind is a little brisk, and my yogurt drink is good and cold. What could ruin a day like this?

Comments on this forum! Good grief. I sometimes wonder why people spew such illogical hatred on this blog. It does confuse me. Good folk out of control. There is even one person saying to ignore what Obama is saying, that the real truth is somewhere else. Where would that be? Huh?

Obama will be elected president because President Bush and his cohorts have poisoned the water. The nation has gone haywire for the past 8 years and the people know it. Maybe not in Utah, though some here do, but around the nation they want the rascals thrown out. It will happen.

Then what? The job is huge and onerous. It is a mountain to be climbed. Internationally, nationally, and in personal freedems we are at the bottom of the well. Obama will not be able to lift us out alone. He will need others. Some elected GOPrs are even moving toward him right now, to be electable come fall. Hope lives!

The Shadow Knows.

EXCITED | 10:35 a.m. June 29, 2008
I love the passion exhibited on both sides of the fence. It makes me happy and excited that so many people are involved in this important freedom.

One point: Defend your position with strength of idea and thought. Name calling makes those employing the tactic look like weak-minded dolts. I guess that is name calling in and of itself but in point of fact it's probably true.

GO VOTE!!!!
Isonprize | 10:45 a.m. June 29, 2008
Sen. Obama is the best choice for President. He is a Christian family man who cares about the environment, wants to end the war, provide health care for all Americans and will work toward an educated electorate.

Sen. McCain, on the other hand, doesn't have a religion, is on his second marriage, doesn't care about the environment, healthcare or education of Americans. And he has stated many times, that he would have the United States stay in Iraq for 20, 30, even 100 years.

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama for President!

oh yeah.. SO WHAT that his middle name is Hussein. His mother's first name was Stanley, I have a male friend whose middle name is Jennifer.

BIG DEAL! What does that have to do with anything!?!
Shame on D-News | 11:14 a.m. June 29, 2008
I am so sick of these message boards. Utah must be filled with the most hate-filled vindictive people in the nation. To see the hatred and the shots going back and forth about the dems and the GOP and even in the sports with the BYU UTAH fights.

For this paper to encourage this is embarrasing. It makes the publication look like a junior high paper. I grew up in Utah and it sickens me to see how people act here. Everyone claims to be christian and good people.

Last time I checked patience, tolerance, charity and understanding were christian attributes. Why so much hate in Utah. If you are stuck in a hate-filled marriage get divorced. If you don't like your job get a new one.

Instead of looking at a party or a radio host to improve your life look in the mirror. I know someone is going to compare that to the Michael Jackson song and say I must be a pedafile. Good one!

Please republicans stop the hate. I am picking on you because you make up 90% of the state. If you are "VALUES" people and christians starting acting like it.

hey all your consertive heart thumpers...
you can't stand that change is on it's way. read your own comments. you're all so defensive. anyone who wouuld take the last 7 years over the 8 years of clinton in crazy. just a guess, but i'll bet the best financial years of your life were under bill clinton.

let's see, we're spending over 12 billion a month in irag, we have huge deficits, goverment speding is out of control, gas is over $4 a gallon, we have no new energy policies, health care costs are crazy, and 70% of the american people think the country is on the wrong track...

you want to talk about jimmy carter? i want to talk about the grease fire administration of george w bush. start drilling for oil here and now. maybe you'll save 10 cents a gallon in 10 years. give me obama now. you don't have to vote for him. just enjoy the next 8 years of wealth, peace, caring, good health and passion like we all did with clinton....

"We're seeing skyrocketing membership," Lyon said. "Our Web site hits are going through the roof ... we signed up over 200 people at the Pride Festival alone."

I wonder how many the Young Democrats will sign on during the days of '47?

And the religious divide widens everyday in Utah.

Whatever other attributes Obama has, at least he seems to be able to pay his property taxes. McCain has failed to pay property taxes in San Diego County where he owns beachfront property for four years.

He is, of course, coming up with excuses now that it's public but none of them indicate that he can handle his own business let alone a failing economy.

As for how he's doing in the failing economy, he plans to institute further income tax breaks that will save the average taxpayer about $150 and he and his beer magnate wife about $400,000.

Those are things worth changing, I think.
arc | 12:40 p.m. June 29, 2008
The recent supreme court ruling that guns can not be banned. McCain thinks that was good. Obama isn't sure. Hasn't he read the constitution? I don't want Obama in.

What McCain needs is a nice VP like Mitt Romney. They would do fine.
Anonymous | 12:48 p.m. June 29, 2008
Obama is anything you want him to be and simultaneously he stands for nothing.

Electing Obama equals 4 more years of Jimmy Carter. McCain is bad, but Obama will be much, much worse.

Way to call it, woman! Nice.

We really have little to no influence over each other's opinions. The best we can do is look at our own little piece of the planet and do all we can to improve it, protect it, respect it. The same with our families and friends. Many little things done well is not a little thing.

Create your corner the way you'd like it to be. The way you'd like to leave it for the rising generations.
Ohio Voter | 1:29 p.m. June 29, 2008
All GWB has done is keep our country safe since 9/11.
He has also kept taxes low and has tried to help the schools and students. Sounds good to me. Bush and Republicans wish to be on the offensive of evil but Dems want to be on the defensive and negotiate with the evil doers. What a crock they are pushing.
REMEMBER; 1993, world trade center was bombed and Clinton was offered Bin Laden and he said no to it. The economy was failing as Bush took office in 2001. Since the Dems took over the Senate and Congress in 06, gas prices have gone through the roof.
Obama has nothing more to offer us, we have seen the dems at work and it has not worked.Sorry....
Dave | 1:31 p.m. June 29, 2008
Typical Snooze photo of liberals smiling.

And try and get the simple-minded Obama supporters to identify what specific "changes" Obama will bring. Is it Michelle's vision of an America she can finally be proud of? And what's that?

I get an idea of where he wants to take us from the company he keeps--and it's divisive and racist. So if that's the change the simple-minded envision, no thanks.

Lew Jeppson | 1:40 p.m. June 29, 2008
I appreciate the enthusiasm of the young Obama supporters in their drive for "change." Electing an African-American is itself a positive change. But you kids do not appreciate the peril each of you faces. Appearing before AIPAC Obama sounded pretty much like George W Bush. You are just as likely to die in the middle east with Obama as with McCain. You Obama supporters need to make clear to your guy that under no conceivable circumstances are you willing to go die or be mained in the middle east.
Demos do need to change | 1:43 p.m. June 29, 2008
Change to what? Socialism? Sorry demos, you offer nothing. If you want to change then change all the restrictions on drilling, change how we manage our forests instead of a hands off policy, the burned out homeless in Cali would love that. Change your elitist attitude, start practicing what you preach. You're great at faultfinding with republicans, but your own house has no direction and is a mess. Change your love affair with hollywood and start thinking for yourself.

I really enjoyed what JenM said. We do need to stop and voice our opinions without name calling and fighting. This will not change anything, but if we do our part and support those who we feel can change the great land of Liberty we can make things happen. At the end of this week we will be celebrating our Independence in this great country of America so we should all think and do what we feel is right and treat everyone the way we want to be treated and stop being so self centered. We are so blessed in living in this great land I had the opportunity of living in South America for a time it made me stop and realize just how blessed we are. So go out and vote. When you get into that booth think with your heart and mind on who can change what has happened and make this country the way our Fore Fathers wanted for us who lived in America. SO VOTE PLEASE AND MAKE AMERICA STRONG AGAIN
Bec | 1:58 p.m. June 29, 2008
Obama is a globalist/socialist. He also seems quite arrogant. Have you ever noticed how he reacts to questions or comments that question his stand on an issue? He turns the tables and tries to make the questioner look small instead of answering the question or comment. I don't like that. It doesn't take much to give a quick, arrogant comeback instead of an answer. The man has a poster of Che Guevero, socialist hitman, in his office. This alone should keep you from voting for him. His loyalties are divided with major leanings toward Africa, not America. Also, you do realize he and Senator Biden have sponsored a "Global Poverty Tax" bill which will impose a tax on American people that will result in approximately an additional $385,000,000,000.00 (385 billion) of taxpayers money being sent to third world countries. This on top of the billions we already fund. It won't stop until all people in the world have the same income. Is that what most Americans want? Has anyone every heard the story of the Grasshopper and the Ant. I feel like one very overburdened ant. It's time to stop this merry-go-round before it's too late.
What is the plan | 1:58 p.m. June 29, 2008
Please without rhetoric but real substance, please what is his plan. I hear nothing but blame and faultfinding from his speeches. Change to what...really, I want to know. I was substance not hot air.
Bec | 2:05 p.m. June 29, 2008
We should all start listening to WHAT the man (Obama) is saying and DOING instead of letting his brilliant marketing ploys sway our decisions. (Think--less cereal in a box but same price--are you really dumb enough to fall for that?) As for the Iraq war, we have to stay the distance and finish what we started. Does anyone here remember what happened after we pulled out of Vietnam? I do. If you want to be a real humanitarian you should be supporting the efforts by our military in the Middle East.
tim whatley | 2:36 p.m. June 29, 2008
freeman...

you're on the losing side of this debate and the losing side of history. your blind support of the bush administration is amazing. clinton never invaded another country without being attacked by that country.
and let's remember who armed bin laden in the first place. don't be afraid of progress and new thinking. it's okay to put your foot in the liberal water....
RE Bec: Viet nam | 2:45 p.m. June 29, 2008
As a matter of fact I do remember what happened after we pulled out of Viet Nam. The Vietnamese took control of their country, and the killing stopped. After a respectable amount of time passed, Viet Nam and the United States established a normal diplomatic relationship, and now Americans are welcome tourists anywhere in Viet Nam, just as Vietnamese are welcome visitors the the US.

What a horrible outcome, huh?

Hey JenM | 3:33 p.m. June 29, 2008
PREACH ON! I love what you said; it's the best advice I've read in a long time.
Freeman | 3:49 p.m. June 29, 2008
tim:

What? When did Somalia attack us? How about Bosnia? Did you know we (the Army) are still in the Balkans? That's a pretty long occupation considering you think we never "invaded."

Yeah, we gave bin Laden some M-16s and stinger missiles to use against the Russians in Afghanistan--is that what Al Qaeda has been using in the terrorist attacks? No? Oh, I see, since we gave him some weapons 30+ years ago, anything he does later is directly attributable to our blatant irresponsibility. What a bunch of liberal garbage.

Also, I said nothing about Bush. Why do you assume that I have "blind support" for his administration?

And finally, I've bathed completely in liberal water (grad school in a VERY liberal state)--that stuff is nothing but poison.
John | 4:18 p.m. June 29, 2008
Truly pathetic.

So many people, so easily fooled by a man who is an empty suit, with neither a grasp of the issues nor any viable solutions.

Obama is, admittedly, a very appealing personality, almost messiah like, with flowery oration and probably real empathy for people's problems.

Stripping aside the emotional pull, there is no factual substance there.

His election will be a disaster for our country, in every aspect of international relations, the global economy, the domestic economy and in curbing freedom and replacing it with failed socialist policies.

A second term of the Carter administration? Those supporting Obama probably are not old enough to remember the bad old days with the misery index, gas rationing, 14% mortgages and the first attacks by Islamic radicals on the U.S.

Maybe P.T. Barnum was right, and perhaps Obama will become President, if there are enough people like this.

Scary, truly scary.
Charlie | 4:47 p.m. June 29, 2008
Sure you've heard what NObama will do to solve the high price of gas. He'll impose more taxes on the oil companies. Both in regular at the pump taxes and then with "Windfall Profits" taxes.

AND WE ALL KNOW HOW OIL COMPANIES, AS WELL S ALL OTHER BUSINESSES, PAY THEIR TAXES, HAVEN'T WE?

THEY PASS THE INCREASED COSTS ON TO THE CONSUMER IN THE FORM OF HIGHER PRICES.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT WAY TO REDUCE OUR PRICE OF GASOLINE DOESN'T IT?

RE Bec: Viet nam | 2:45 p.m. June 29, 2008
"The Vietnamese took control of their country, and the killing stopped."

OBVIOUSLY YOU DON'T REMEMBER, OR HAVE A CLUE, WHAT HAPPENED AFTER WE LEFT VIETNAM.

The Communnists from the north invaded and took over in the south AND SLAUGHTERED MILLIONS. They also sent MILLIONS to "Re-Education Camps" to learn the ways of Communism or die. Most chose death.
Millions more fled Vietnam altogether in shabby boats trying to get ANYWHERE ELSE. I'm betting you've never heard of the Vietnamese Boat People.

In Cambodia, POL POT and the Khmer Rouge went thru the country chasing out and wholesale slaughtering anyone who dared to oppose him. THREE Million died in this episode alone.
Then there's all the other slaughters of people who refused to live under communism.

Whoever YOU ARE, you don't know SQUAT abut what happened after we left Vietnam or you wouldn't make such damned stupid comments.
