Congrats, Trent! Thanks for 3 great years @ BYU. Detroit is an exciting place
to go with their recent success. Nice to have you continue BYU's tradition
of moving players to the NBA, even tho we will miss you, but your success will
show upcoming prospects that BYU is a great training ground for the ultimate
goal of playing in the NBA.

Plaisted went hiking? In this altitude?
Naw, I saw them at a Provo Canyon picnic ground just hanging around. He was nice and excited, and spoke to me and my buddies, but he was there pretty much all afternoon. I had him in a Econ class once and is a good guy, and wish him luck.
The hiking bit was, I'm sure, to make up for his weak workout and excuses with the Jazz.

All of you BYU haters out there who were so sure Plaisted would NEVER be
drafted...what have you got to say now? I suppose that's why you're
on here commenting rather than working in an NBA organization that actually
knows how to evaluate talent and potential. Trent, congratulations! I am glad
you get to prove yourself in the league and get away from Provo early, where you
and your wife were unfairly and unkindly treated after her motor vehicle
incident. A lot of people open their mouths before knowing all the facts and
spoke harshly against her, and they should be ashamed. Likewise many disparaged
you all season long whenever you had a down game. None of these haters could
ever make a D-1 roster (or a city league roster either, I'm guessing), but
they sure think they know a lot about the game and about you. Good job ignoring
them and having good workouts that led to your drafting by the Pistons. I wish
the Jazz had picked you instead of a weak Croatian project in the 2nd round, but
I have to have faith that they did what was best for you and the Jazz. Best

He was drafted by Seattle and traded to Detroit. Yes, as of recent, you are correct Detriot does have a good nose for drafting talented big men (i.e., Darko Milicic) so you are absolutely correct, we were all wrong. Trent skills remind me of a combination of Shaq, Timmy-D, Dirk, and Dwight-Superman-Howard. We should have known after watching how well Trent played against the powerhouse gym-rat Nevill that he was bound for the NBA. Geez, we were all wrong, we should have known better.

Congrats to Plaisted on getting drafted by the Pistons! I wish him the best of
luck in his pro career. His game/skills are a good match with Detroit style of

The doubters are right here and ready to comment on your abusurd comment. Trent
has NOT ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING BY BEING DRAFTED IN THE SECOND ROUND. Most second
round picks don't even make the team....that is why they don't have an
automatic contract like first rounders get. Face it, Plaisted is a joke,
he'll be lucky to make it in Europe. Have fun playing with the Piston
D-league team making $25K a year.

He never claimed to be the best power-forward/center in the draft, but he was done with school and left to go make some money. Why don't you compare your current salary with his future salary and then see who's laughing?

Trent and his brother and sister were in our singles ward. They are very kind
and a little shy. Trent's wife started coming while they were dating, she
is very nice. They are very humble. I feel bad that there are so many people
ready to criticize. I think it has been hard to come into the public eye and be
treated so rudely. I wonder what it would be like to have a family member
become famous and have to get thick skin. God Bless Trent and his family.

I'm glad Trent is getting a shot, but if he doesn't learn to shoot
free throws and improve on his short range jumpers, then he won't last very

I think that most Ute fans agree that Trent was premature in looking to go to
the NBA. As it stands he is guarenteed nothing and the fact that he went to the
Pistons will make it all the more difficult to even make the team.
What I love is how Dick Harmon goes off about BYU's prowess in getting players drafted. Afterall they are number 2 in number of draftees after UNLV. Then as evidence he brings up the last few draft picks from BYU. The funny thing is most of them were MAJOR DRAFT BUSTS!
If you are a player and wanted to go the the NBA what does BYU have to offer? People will say MW championships (when traditional power houses like UTAH, NM, and UNLV are rebuilding.) Name one BYU player that is currenty on an NBA roster.

they come, but that is a pretty big stretch since we only send one every 5 years
or so and only half of them even make it.

...I'll admit, was stupid to go into the draft without completing his
senior season first; however, we all make mistakes. Give the guy some credit, he
actually got drafted, and although the Ute fans cry outrage because of his
abysmal performance against Luke Neville, I'm sure that if he actually
works hard and plays like he CAN, he'll have a career in basketball.
It's not like he doesn't have any talent, just has some work to do.
What do you think training camp is for? None or very few of those draftees are
ready work-wise for what the NBA requires, so let's quit trying to predict
the future when we have no idea what the future holds for the guy. As long as
he continues to try to excel, nothing but success can be expected from him.
It's a pattern of human existence. Quit raggin on the poor guy.
He'll get enough in Detroit.

Uh, I'm pretty sure they give 2nd round rookies more than $25K a year, even
when they get assigned to the D-League. So, even if Trent never steps foot on
an NBA court, he'll likely make more playing basketball somewhere in the
next 2 years than most of you loser Ute fans have made your whole life. Not bad
for a slightly above average player.
By the way, is Luke Nevill and Jaycee Carroll still holding out for round 3 of the draft????? Oh wait, there ISN'T a round 3...

If Trent is "not going nowhere" does that mean he is going
somewhere??
He should have stayed another year and worked on his free throw shooting and add a few more post moves to his repertoire other than driving the middle and doing a jump-stop hook shot. I was impressed he can do it with both hands, but it was his only move and was too easy to defend. He has some great talents, namely his quickness getting up and down the floor. I'd like to see him take his big, slow defender off the dribble and slam one home.
If he would have stayed and had another good year, he could have been a first round pick and maybe a lottery pick with guaranteed money.
I still wish him success in whatever he decides to do.

Yea, it's too bad Trent didn't go sooner, he had to wait for all the
super talented yewtes to get drafted before he was taken. Oh wait, I
didn't see any yewtes get drafted. How can that be, didn't win the
MWC regular season and play for the tournament championship, and go to the NCAA
Tournament the last two seasons? Can't believe yewte fans still pop off
after being totally dominated in Foothball and basketball by the Cougars the
last two seasons. Yes, dominated as in the won/loss column. Add them and you
can only draw one conclusion, DOMINATED!!!

Considering how many basketball players there are out there, just getting
drafted by the NBA is saying something. Very few players become superstars, but
there are many players who can make good money playing a game they enjoy,
whether in a backup role for an NBA team or in Europe.

about inevitable disappointment from MWC draftees, how's Alex Smith working

Provo loves Trent. We loved his athleticism. His skills on the break. His
dunks. We loved how he drew double teams. The U of U hardly owned us during
Trent's years. In fact, what we love most is the last two MWC titles. For
the record, BYU is plenty happy with all the players we have sent to the NBA
(More than Utah), because what they did in Provo is what counts in our league.
(What has Neville done for Utah? Handled Trent, you think, but who won those
games? What counts? Where was he drafted?). I'm laughing more and more at
the Utah posters who continue to open their mouths. Pathetic, really.

Chances are he will not make the Piston's roster. A second round pick does
not usually make the roster. He will play in Greece or somewhere for a few

I am a BYU fan, but I don't understand where this, "we're better
than you because we have had more guys get into the NBA than you"
arguments. Who has done well in the NBA besides Danny Ainge? This is basically a
truce because you have Ainge for the Cougs and Andre Miller is the best the Utes
have had because Van Horn did as much as Shawn Bradley did.
This Plaisted thing is egregiously stupid. he should have stayed at BYU. Good luck being a bench player in europe, I feel like we won the MWC titles in spite of Trent, not because of him. I hold no credence to what he did against Louisville and UNC because he couldn't be consistent against the MWC.

I'll agree with you on that. But you forgot to mention that Trent will make more money in 1 year than most of you sorry Cougars will make in his whole life. But it's typical for Cougars to face the truth.
No one is surprised that Jaycee Carroll and Luke Neville didn't get drafted. It was common knowledge. So you're not hurting anybody with that jab. But while I'm speaking of Carroll I believe he will have the better career. I see Carroll playing in a summer league and making it into the NBA undrafted.

I am totally shocked he got drafted. But I noticed he was drafted at about the
same time as the two second round Jazz picks. Both of these Jazz picks are
expected to stay and play in Europe for a few years because they are nowhere
close to being ready for the NBA. I imagine that is the case with Trent P.
Detroit will put him in the D-League to see if he can improve and if not, then Detroit was at least able to use him as Trade Bait.

I hope Trent has more goals than just to be drafted. With no guarantees, I
doubt that he will ever play in the NBA. How many Paul Milsaps show up on NBA
rosters?

As an NBA "franchise player", picked number one in the first round,
you would expect that former Ute Andrew Bogut would be turning around the
Milwaukee Bucks after three seasons. Instead, Bogut has made no difference at
all. In fact the Bucks won only 26 games last season, after winning 28 games
the season before. I hoped he would have a great impact, but up till now, he has
been mediocre at best, especially considering he was the number one draft
pick.
There are no guarantees in the NBA, even for first round picks. I wish both Utah and BYU players well in the NBA. It is not an easy road.

Detroit already has 14 players under contract for next season, Plaistead was a
2nd round pick, which means he isn't guaranteed a contract, if he does get
one, he will most likely be playing in the D-League. So basically he can choose
between Europe or the D-League. He wasn't going to get any better in
college, and BYU doesn't have a reputation of sending NBA ready
players(Mike Smith, Hoffa, Travis Hansen, Shawn the Mantis Bradley). But at
least he'll be playing for money next year.
