What a shame...
Gus | 12:17 p.m. June 27, 2008
Have they still not found the bottom of Bear Lake? I wouldn't build anything near a lake with no bottom.
Dirk | 12:29 p.m. June 27, 2008
"Bear Lake and the nearby mountains may seem bucolic, but a planned three-part development could turn the area into a center for shopping, snow- and water-skiing, hiking, fishing, snowmobiling, swimming, tennis, horseback riding, sailing, golfing and dining."

I think you left "traffic" off your list!

Sounds like a great development. I would like to be part of that community!
dlarsen | 12:57 p.m. June 27, 2008
I wonder how long before Garden City and Utah get there own mega-resort. Utah can't let Idaho get all the tax dollars.

Bad idea....there goes Bear Lake.
Smart! | 1:09 p.m. June 27, 2008
At a time when our country is realizing european type gas prices, here to stay, do you really want to invest in water skiing & snowmobiling? Want to make some fast cash? Buy "shorts" on any publicly traded boat maker, RV manufacturer or snowmobile company.
jmk | 1:15 p.m. June 27, 2008
Dirk you're exactly right. We go up there for the quiet. Bye Bye Bear lake.
Keri | 1:16 p.m. June 27, 2008
So much for the quiet retreat I have enjoyed for so many years, but it may bring in more ways to have fun. The additional golf course and winter activies sounds great. Although the traffic will be a nightmare, think Raspberry Days all the time.
Tia | 1:22 p.m. June 27, 2008
How sad. Yes, the artist's renditions of the development look beautiful, but I always loved the fact that the lake was so pristine and country-ish. It has those great empty shorelines, little mom and pop shake stands...now it's being developed? **crying a little inside**
Scott | 1:33 p.m. June 27, 2008
Proof is in the pudding. It's not the first grand plan to start with a bank and end with a fizzle. At $4/gal now and likely $5/gal within a year or two who could afford the run over to Bear Lake? I'm all for it. The county infrastucture could use a shot in the arm. I'm not betting the farm that it happens . . .
Tim | 2:21 p.m. June 27, 2008
There are some places where Mother Nature did a pretty good job developing by herself. Leave BL alone.......it's already had enough human intervention.
Yeah! | 2:42 p.m. June 27, 2008
Go Capitalism & Developement, I can't wait!
Bear Lake sucks. | 2:51 p.m. June 27, 2008
I am glad to see it destroyed. It is just too cold and I do not like bears either. I think they should find a way to drain it so they can find the bottom.
Leave it alone | 3:08 p.m. June 27, 2008
This is really too bad. It is such a beautiful area, no development needed.
JJASS | 3:27 p.m. June 27, 2008
My very, very, very favorite place in all the world to go and relax and get AWAY from everything.
Too bad
oh so sad | 3:36 p.m. June 27, 2008
Sad, I guess one of my favorite vacation spots just got eliminated.
Just Me | 4:33 p.m. June 27, 2008
wow Utah is getting rid of nature and making things worse. Way to go Utah!
Re. Scott | 4:57 p.m. June 27, 2008
It's not the done deal that they want to portray. There are alot of people in Bear Lake that aren't very excited about the whole thing. Another detail not revealed in the article is the fact that their water mitigation plan has already been refused twice by the IDWR. If the thing does fly the farms will be some of the first casuelties.
Monsterfan | 6:00 p.m. June 27, 2008
Where's the Bear Lake Monster when you need it?
Anonymous | 7:40 p.m. June 27, 2008
The max depth of Bear Lake is 208 ft (63 m)
BLM | 10:07 p.m. June 27, 2008
A lake without a bottom is just not safe. Think of the children.
Sad news | 11:02 p.m. June 27, 2008
I think this is a huge mistake!!!!
Curt | 11:08 p.m. June 27, 2008
I heard it was 66 degrees today at Bear Lake--who is going to want to use a water park in that hot 66 degree summer weather? Lame idea. What dumb bank would be willing to lend money for this project?
l | 1:56 a.m. June 28, 2008
RE Curt,

You heard it was 66 degrees at Bear Lake? From whom? It's been in the mid-80s all week and is forecasted to continue as such.

Waldo | 12:25 p.m. June 28, 2008
Hey: The Development is in Idaho not Utah, so Idaho is screwing it up NIT WIT!!!!!
John | 6:46 p.m. June 28, 2008
Wow - what a beautiful area that needs a boost. It will be great to have a quality development is such a gorgeous place.
Peg | 1:29 p.m. July 1, 2008
Where are is the Beach access going to be for this development. Most of the beach around the lake is either privatly owned or under the state parks jurisdiction. There are many underlying problems that must be researched and solved before this development can become a reality. Bear Lake is a small community for a development like this. Ugh!! the traffic will be horrible. Leave Bear Lake like it is;small mom and pop businesses.
Hmmm? | 11:24 a.m. July 2, 2008
Wheres the large vehicle airport and closest metropolitan area to support this mega resort?

Who wants to commute 3 to 5 hours plus, with the reality of fuel cost and limited roadway infrastructure currently in place?

I wouldnt invest in it, seems short-sighted.

Realist | 5:11 p.m. July 7, 2008
What will be, will be.
Bear Laker | 1:50 p.m. June 22, 2009
Don't believe everything you hear. They still do not own all of the property especially a big portion right in the middle of their developement. They also have lost their beach property trying to close another piece. Their are many problems with this development. They have been trying to get it off the ground for a few years already with not a lot to show for it. If you want to see a development that is already in and not going to destroy Bear Lake drive down the road a little bit to The Reserve.... Very nice and sound!
