This is so exciting! I get the chills every time is see the stadium. This is the new standard for soccer specific stadiums in the US. And what better place to have than in the good 'ol SLC.

I'll be picking my season seats this morning. My thanks to the legislators who realized how this will benefit the community. And yeah, it's my $600/year going into RSL's pockets, and then a portion into Sandy/SL County/Utah state coffers via the taxes RSL will pay. I've even paid a little of the tourist tax money that ACTUALLY paid for the property and infrastructure at the stadium (again, NOT taxes from most Utahns--taxes from tourists paid for this). I'm hoping for second row--wish me luck.

Too bad it's not somewhere that it can be appreciated, like anywhere but in the US, let alone Utah... It definitely rivals some of the Euro 2008 stadiums that have been on TV recently.

We can definitely make beautiful monuments to our own ignorance, with our own tax money. Until it is torn down, it will now stand as a reminder as to our entertainment starved selves.

I can barely afford gas and groceries, yet this magnificent structure graces our doorsteps as a reminder of the things that matter most in our lives.

Right on! There are always a million posts every time the Des News puts an article up on the stadium or even parking at the stadium or especially when RSL loses. I guess there are not many posts because the team is actually in 2nd place and people will soon be climbing on the bandwagon. Oh well, everyone fire away, we heard all the anti-soccer and anti-stadium cracks before. On 10/9 it will finally end once and for all.

Maybe just maybe you should check your facts before putting up such an ignorant post! RSL has one of the highest season ticket sales in the MLS and also one of the most consistent and loyal fan bases!

I know it had to be hard when you were a kid to be picked last for the soccer team, but don't hate soccer just because of that! We all can't be athletic and skilled enough to play the worlds most popular sport!

I've got one word for soccer.... BOOOOOOORING!

After going to a game, and seeing how many people were there (not to mention the fact it was like watching water evaporate), I can't BELIEVE that we're spending tons of SL County money on this. Definitely not worth it.

Can't Wait for the new stadium! The atmosphere there is going to be outstanding! I've been following the progress on the stadium's website and drive by it on occasion to see how it's coming along. With the addition of the seats and the grass beginning to be laid, it's coming alive! I live in Utah County so the drive to Sandy will take 25 minutes off my commute to games. No more Rice-Eccles where the players disappear out of my vision when they run along the sideline!

Go REAL! Make the playoffs so we can see a couple extra games in the new home!!

I think the reason for the soccer haters has nothing to do with soccer. They are still upset the stadium was not built in Salt Lake. Groups like the Downtown Alliance are upset that dollars are going to Sandy and not Salt Lake. They are the most greedy group you will ever meet. I frankly don't care if Salt Lake continues to go down the tubes.

Baseball is so boring, I cant believe everyone actually watches it. The Bees can hardly be called professional. They dont even compare to a team like the Red Sox, why did we bother building them a stadium?

There is a reason that soccer is the most popular sport in the world. Real has a good team this year, we're headed to the playoffs and I can't wait. This stadium is going to be awesome. Hopefully the US national team will play some games in it also, i'm excited. To all the soccer haters, It doesn't matter what you want, we have the stadium, we used your tax dollars, deal with it. GO REAL!!!

I'm excited to see a game in the new stadium. I've seen the US National teams play in D.C. and hope that soon they can bring some of that excitement to Utah. Also, The RSL team is just getting better and better.

Real deserves to have a new stadium undefeated at home and just best New England best team in MLS. Also in second place. This stadium should bring Real Madrid back to play. I hope next year the All Star game is in Utah. Maybe Manchester United.

Those yellow lines that you can barely see (RSL players don't seem to be able to see them and MLS refs sure can't) generate free money for the Utes.

Don't they teach Econ 101 up there on the hill?

The Utes can use this money to go to a bowl game with fewer people in the stadium than an RSL game.

Remember "Taxpayer Money" haters, this hotel tax would not exist without RSL. It was used for the Salt Palace expansion, and would expire in 2011. The Sate extended the tax to fun $35 million of RSL's $110 million stadium. The most PRIVATELY funded arena in the state. RSL gets 18% of that tax, and the state gets 82% of that tax. The state can then do what they want with that 82%. Without RSL's stadium funding in 2011 the state would have 0% of $0 because the tax would not exist.

As a Ute and RSL fan I understand that how the extra lines on the playing surface looks stupid. How do you think it looks with a faded off centered 'UTAH' in the goal box or the white football lines painted over like a 1st grader in a coloring book. Another reason why RSL need it's own stadium.
The surface at RES is old and needs to be replaced so I was happy to hear the rumor that Utah will be getting new turf next year and RSL was going to help pay for it.

First and foremost; haters please go away. All of your complaints and such have obviously failed. Hope to see you on Oct. 9th by the way.
Secondly; RSL needs a song. Not how it is now where we have like 3 or 4 different groups with drums and such singing, but like an official song. Liverpool has their infamous song they sing after every game to their players, i would love something of that nature. also, along these lines, Real fans need some "official" chants. Some of the fan groups have some pretty good ones and some really bad ones. I would love to see ALL of the fans singing together, not a bunch of different things going on at once. I welcome the noise and such, the south american atmosphere of the game is great, but so is the european atmosphere. If we could combine them, it would be awesome.
On a seperate note, i am VERY excited for the stadium to open, it will be a great venue and hopefully we can bring in the national team eventually. (we are not on the list of location for qualifiers for world cup '10 sadly)

To all of those that complain that this stadium is being built with your tax payer money and that you don't have any money to put food on your table need to get your facts straight. The little tax payer money that is going into this stadium is coming from tourists, not Utah residents. (Well, unless you are renting a car or staying in a hotel here in Utah.) And if you are complaining that you don't have any money to buy groceries I highly doubt you are renting cars or staying in hotels. Therefore, direct your anger elsewhere. Perhaps you should get angry at mortgage companies and their lending practices that have caused the Fed to lower interest rates so low that now the dollar is almost worthless. Because of that Oil is through the roof, in turn gasoline is through the roof, in turn food prices are through the roof and that is really what is making you angry. We should all be thankful for RSL, thanks to them more tourists will come to Utah and more business now that Utah won't be seen as a backwards place in the world.

I think it would be great if the "haters" looked at Reals standings and saw that we have 5 wins, 5 loses, and 4 ties. That is 50%. not to bad could be better but still not bad.

The Stadium is Bueatiful.... I have my Seat, and its going to be great. Can't wait to see you all there.

I just spent $6,000 on RSL season tickets, and got the ones I wanted. Yep, I have exta money, and I give it to RSL because they are a team worth supporting. So there!

I get Utefan just doesn't have the cash to go to pro games and only goes to cheap ute games.

I've already got my tickets for the new stadium. Can't wait for RSL to play in it. I agree that we need some chants for the entire crowd. The atmosphere is so much more fun when the crowd is into the game.Lets show our support for RSL and get out to the games with some good cheering and chanting. Go RSL.

The only way that they will be able to have more than the most die-hard soccer fans in the stadium is to sell tickets to corporations who in turn give them to their employees as some sort of 'benefit'. It's just like to the baseball stadium. I can't even give away those tickets - no one will take them.

It's clear you have no idea what you are talking about. Soccer and baseball are entirely different, and major league soccer is a different animal than minor league baseball. Just read the posts on this Web site. Do you not notice how many out-of-towners say they are coming for that first game. That's money in the economy and money in the hotel taxes that are paying for this. You might not realize this but a pro soccer team in Utah is just as noticeable, if not more, than an NBA team because when they play the World Cup, and they start talking about players playing with Real Salt Lake, all of Europe, all of South America, all of Asia are watching. Instead of the few million that watch basketball outside the U.S., there are a few billion who suddenly become acquainted with the name Salt Lake. The probably with people like you is you shortsightedness and abject inability to see beyond your backyard. This is a big deal. Soccer is growing here and having a major-league team is going to be worth hundreds of millions to the state.
