Considering most of these were probably illegals, why not involve ICE and process them for deportation?
The Mobile Mexican Counsul also held an event like this inside an LDS Church in San Marcos, California this month. The Mexican Counsul called the police because of the protesters, who were within their constitutional rights. Of course ICE did not show up. They are not equipped to deal with 600 illegal aliens all at once.
