1)Regain complete control of our borders, both north and south. Any deportations are useless when those deported can walk back in. 2)Prosecute employers who are enticing people to sneak in with jobs. 3)Any state that wants to allow illegal students instate tuition must end "Out of State tuitions" for all students. 4)Join the PBA Minutemen or other such organizations to shame the congress into doing its job of protecting our nation. 5) Tell Latino illegal advocates who are here legally, that the racist rhetoric they spew gives the impression that they are more in love with the nation they left than the one they are in. They seem to be more of a 5th column than they would/should want to be. 6) Let the advocates of illegals know they appear not to care about the nations security as long as the migration of latino's continues unabated (terrorists do not care if one is here legally or not).

If you like the way things are in Washington, by all means vote for the incumbent Rep. Cannon. However, if you are upset about the way the republicans ran the show from 2000-2006 while in full control of both the White House and Congress, but you aren't a liberal democrat your choice should be Jason Chaffetz. Remember this primary is your final choice. No other party has a chance in the Nov general election.

Electing the same candidate election after election, but expecting a different result is political insanity, or stupidity. The only real way to get control of our government in Washington is to start getting rid of entrenched incumbents no matter the party, and that includes our two senators. Many think that the problems are caused by the representatives and Senators from other states, but we, in Utah, need to clean our own backyard as well. You may think seniority is a good thing, but when it is primarily for the use of the rich and powerful, it becomes more of a detriment to the people. While the republicans are in the minority their seniority is generally worthless.
Chaffetz' responces weak. | 11:34 a.m. June 21, 2008
If someone takes a honest side-by-side look at Rep. Cannon and Mr. Chaffetz' responses to the questions, that individual would find that Cannon's responses are far more honest and provides specific needed corrections.
Chaffetz' comments are great sound bites but are less then an inch deep in depth. I don't agree with all of Cannon's responses but at least he has critically thought through the problem and has provided depth to his responses.
It is easy to blame illegal immigration for a plethora of problems, but the simple fact is that if we threw them all out, it would destroy our economy. The U.S. economy has a need for cheap manual labor that the current legal population is unwilling to perform, or unwilling to pay the increased costs to have a resident perform (housing, food, construction...). We need rational and realistic responses not a knee-jerk responses to our nations problems.
If these are examples of the levels of strategic and critical thinking Chaffetz and Cannon will provide as your representative the choice seems to be clear. If you want great sound bites, vote for Chaffetz. If you want some intellectual thought behind a vote, Elect Cannon.

WE need to enforce the immigratin law. It says the penalty for hiring an illegal is $10,000 and 5 yrs in prison. If that was enforced, employers in the U.S. would not employ them. They would fire the ones they now have. Illegals would return to their country in mass if no jobs were available. PUT THE EMPLOYERS IN PRISON!

Weak responses and sound bytes? These are the stands we need to take - I am watching the Republican party move left every day and it sickens me. I am tired of our current politicians who simple cave on the most important matters and call it "negotiating." Why do you think so many are disenchanted with Mr. McCain as the GOP nominee after his antics the past decade.

And to anyone who intimates we need a class of low paid illegal immigrants to keep our economy going...way to jump on the same fiscal arguments of the Confederate states who said they couldn't survive without slavery. If we had fixed this problem ages ago we would have a modern agricultural system today that leads the world in production efficiency.

Usually the easy answer is usually wrong and creates worse problems. We need to elected officials that understand that complex problems require complex solutions.

I don't have issues with fining employers that use illegal workers, but it should be an equitable response and the federal government doesn't have the resources to do the job. Do you simply think that the answer is to pay more taxes to finance a larger federal law enforcement organization?

We need a response that is multifaceted. Cannon's response is more articulate then Chaffetz'. If Chaffetz is going to use the same level of critical thinking crafting legislation, as he did answering these DesNews' questions, he is without a clue.
