Mr. Hicks lost credibility when he criticized "The Thing". The violence is not gratuitious; it's all necessary for the story. I don't remember much "gore" anyway. "The Thing" is a classic.

Chris, you have been right so many times over the years, but never more right than you are now. "The Happening" is a dreadful, idiotic film that marks such a low for Shyamalan that I doubt I'll ever see another of his films.

I am so sick of the proliferation of terrible filmmaking. We need better movies. The Hollywood studios need to wake up. If there is a bad movie, DON'T SEE IT!!

The pseron who said Mr. Hicks lost his credibilty never had any. It will be interesting to see what M. Night does in response to the hostile reaction to this truly dreadful film. In the past, he has always tried rather lamely to correct the most glaring criticisms in the next movie (such as adding too much comic relief in "signs" after everyone complained that there was none in "Unbreakable," or not appearing in "The Happening" after everyone, right down to the council of Bishops, condemned his ridiculous role in "Lady in The Water." But all that is left with this one is to stop making movies altogether. And I think to myself, what a wonderful world!
